The best laid Foundations

The Celtic FC Foundation are holding a golf day in April to raise funds for autism in Scotland, the first such day the Foundation have organised.  When planning for the event, Leftybhoy, Brogan Rogan, Harry Brady, Tyneside No.1, me, Thomas and Jane from the Foundation, and Foundation chief exec, Tony Hamilton, wondered if and how we would be able to get winning Ryder Cup player, Stephen Gallacher, to help out.

Over two meetings we discussed strategy on how to get to Stephen, how to hone our pitch, explain the autism work, so that we might be able to get a pin flag signed, or something like that.  Two meetings!

Tony Hamilton was a Firhill last night when a Celtic fan spoke to him:

Celtic fan: “Are you the guy organising the golf day?”

Tony (thinking he’s about to sell a ticket): “Aye”.

Celtic fan: “I’m a golf pro, I might be able to help out with auction stuff.”

Tony (now worried about that ticket sale): “Great.  Which course are you pro at?”

Celtic fan: “No course, I’m on the European tour.  I’ll leave stuff with Stevie.”

Tony (confused what that means and wondering why this guy doesn’t have a regular job in a golf shop): “That’s very kind of you.”

After the game Tony checks his phone and sees a message from Tyneside No.1:

“Ryder Cup winner Stephen Gallacher in stand tonight. Have you rugby tackled him re our Golf Day yet?”

Tony’s been staring at a wall ever since.

Information on the golf day, complete with gratefully received supporting items from Stephen Gallacher, available here.

Exactly. He loves it and doesn’t seem bothered an hour after the game. He played against a Motherwell winger who had a bag of tricks but my boy had him for pace so was a good ding dong…

That’s the best news. A wee baby, nothing like the gift of a new beautiful child.

  14. Let me say something about politics (jist fur a change)

Everyone knows I am a Scottish Nationalist, have always voted SNP and still want independence but let me say something I WISH deeply that the Labour party was led by people like Dennis Skinner and Glenda Jackson.

If Labour was led by people with their messages and voices then I would think twice about Independence but it isn’t and when I see the actions of the branch office in Scotland and the gravy train mentality they all exhibit not to mention the lies they tell to the populace about their voting records when a basic fact check by a media in Scotland would expose them for the liars they are sickens me.

Instead the media relentlessly attack the SNP regardless of the issue and offer little or no criticism of people like Saint Jim and the nodding heads all agree.

The links between BBC Scotland and the Labour party are as unhealthy for Scottish politics as the sports departments’ links and fawning over Sevco are for our football.

I think this coming election is pivotal.

Choose wisely because if you give your vote to a party who have let the people voting for it down in the main since 1997 then frankly like no voters you deserve every negative piece of trouble coming your way.

    Think about it

Tontine Tim, thanks for that run down of the pre-season greens v whites games.

A lot of names who were unfortunate not to make it with us.

Charlie Gallagher sits four rows in front of us in the South Stand. My dad said if Charlie had the heart of either Bobby Murdoch or Bertie, he would have got into the team ahead of either one.

Charlie played a huge part in our history with the corners he took for our winning goals v Dunfermline in 1965 and at the Vojvodina game two years later.

Bobby Carroll’s grandson is in my son’s year and goes to as many of our games as possible. One of big Billy’s daughters stays in East Kilbride and once he’s visited his family, he occasionally pops in to see Bobby Carroll, who also lives there.

  19. Snake Plissken….the only chance Labour voters had of ever seeing a socialist labour party was by voting YES in the referendum…if Scotland had voted YES..that was the chance for labour to build a new left wing labour party in Scotland .they blew it..the chance is gone…there will Never be a left wing labour party in britain again…their hatred of the SNP put paid to it..they had their chance…its gone…

    Great news bud.

    Congratulations to all your family.
