The best laid Foundations

508

The Celtic FC Foundation are holding a golf day in April to raise funds for autism in Scotland, the first such day the Foundation have organised.  When planning for the event, Leftybhoy, Brogan Rogan, Harry Brady, Tyneside No.1, me, Thomas and Jane from the Foundation, and Foundation chief exec, Tony Hamilton, wondered if and how we would be able to get winning Ryder Cup player, Stephen Gallacher, to help out.

Over two meetings we discussed strategy on how to get to Stephen, how to hone our pitch, explain the autism work, so that we might be able to get a pin flag signed, or something like that.  Two meetings!

Tony Hamilton was a Firhill last night when a Celtic fan spoke to him:

Celtic fan: “Are you the guy organising the golf day?”

Tony (thinking he’s about to sell a ticket): “Aye”.

Celtic fan: “I’m a golf pro, I might be able to help out with auction stuff.”

Tony (now worried about that ticket sale): “Great.  Which course are you pro at?”

Celtic fan: “No course, I’m on the European tour.  I’ll leave stuff with Stevie.”

Tony (confused what that means and wondering why this guy doesn’t have a regular job in a golf shop): “That’s very kind of you.”

After the game Tony checks his phone and sees a message from Tyneside No.1:

“Ryder Cup winner Stephen Gallacher in stand tonight. Have you rugby tackled him re our Golf Day yet?”

Tony’s been staring at a wall ever since.

Information on the golf day, complete with gratefully received supporting items from Stephen Gallacher, available here.

    *****CALLING ALL BELFAST HOOTENANNIERS*****

Is anyone arriving in Belfast on Friday for the hootenanny? I’m getting in around 6.30PM and am hoping to be having a few swallies with our Emerald Prince 6 Roads and any other of our Emerald Isle brigade.

I cant disagree that he has a past. I agree with your sentiments on consequences, however we can all be guilty to a certain extent eg have you ever bought cheap cigarettes, cheap booze, fake designer gear, copied CD’s or DVDS,s. Alibet a lesser scale, but still contributes to massive profits for various gangs.

Anyway from a Celtic perspective F McA is still one of us.

  3. Loathe as I am to nay say anything Mr Stein said, I would have to say that you might well win the European Cup if you have not 11 but 1 Harry Hood or Charlie Gallagher in your team.

How does Frank McAvennie get a job ad a radio pundit? Do these broadcasters take anyone as long as they are a football name, regardless of how they come across on air?

No harm to the guy but bliddy hell. He makes Gordon Dalziel sound like Richard Burton.

5,776 at the match last night. A Celtic game in Glasgow and only 3,000 or so Tic fans there.

You’ve got to wonder about the (lack of) business acumen in the other clubs.

I’d wager they could have filled the ground last night, but they make it too difficult to get tickets.

Thistle could and should consider giving the Main stand to Celtic supporters.

Thanks for those postings about the whites v greens trial games.

It is maybe something the club could resurrect,a touch game to let us see our squad or how we train etc.free entry with nominated charities collecting inside. To me this would be better than a preseason friendly with 7 or 8 subs.it would also bring us closer, in a fans to team sense.

    All good in Celtic.thanks again

  19. Watched an excellent u13 game today. My son’s S1 Cults Academy ( Aberdeen) v Holyrood ( Glasgow) in quater final of Schools Scottish Cup.

Holyrood ran out deserved winners 3-1. No great surprise given they are biggest school in Europe and an SFA performance school allowing them to field 7 pro youths ( Aberdeen FC do not allow pro youths to play school football).

It was an excellent game to watch. Great technique and skills on display, tactical awareness and played in great spirit – only 1 yellow card for dissent.

It’ll take a good team to get past Holyrood!

Was across from the main stand last night and was thinking it must have looked poor on the telly, especially with the end behind the goal away also. Saw a few folk outside looking for tickets, with not much joy also.

Mrs PC67 was saying there was a groupon deal available for £49??

I agree the systems for buying tickets is hardly helpful to supporters and the whole pricing/ticketing/marketing would be worth a blog topic on its own…

Meantime I wonder if the postponement of this match from Jan 1st had an effect on the attendance. I’d think so.

Funnily enough I have posted before about PTs enlightened pricing policies especially younger fans many of whom get in free or on minimal payment.

    Hail Hail!

  27. Bawsman.

I know you are Labour to the core and that is a choice that thankfully you are still free to make.

I normally try to avoid politics on the blog, as although I am fascinated by politics, I dislike all the major and probably all the the minor parties.

Labour have a problem, in that they are now perceived by some of the electorate as being a right wing party. The same as republican/democrats in the states are viewed as very right wing and right wing.

They are no longer viewed as the party of the working man.

An example I will give, is almost every week Cameron mocks Ed as being in the unions pocket etc. Ed always deflects from this, why doesn’t he respond by saying, I’m proud to be part of the union and to be a leader of the opposition who will stand up for workers rights unlike you Cameron, who is in a race to the bottom and won’t be happy until all working class folk are only earning the minimum wage.

I have to agree with you re certain ex pro pundits.

Frankiebhoy is testimony to the benefits of low intellect and brass neck. He makes a small fortune on the after dinner circuit as well. Heard him twice . If you weren’t a Celtic fan you’d ask for your money back.

Two things I will say in his favour is that he is a nice enough guy and plenty of time for the punters. He also doesn’t hide his colours but equally isn’t irrational re Celtic.

Another halfwit is BFDJ who like his Hun pal Dalziel is positively delusional and in denial.

I find guys like Michael Stewart listenable and not concerned by annoying anyone with his comments. Russell Anderson also good value, articulate and honest.

However for every decent ex pro pundit there appears to be a dozen numpties

The main stand was pretty empty. But they seem to reserve it for Jags fans.

I was in that stand at the clincher last season. Their support kicked up a stink at our presence afterwards. They can’t see the wood for the trees. 3,000 x £25 is all that should matter really. Instead the on-line route to buy tickets has been closed.

Point I’m making is how difficult is it for Thistle to attract another 2 or 3000 Celtic supporters from the 30,000 regulars at Parkhead.
