The great United reunion, signing backup keepers

1109

Ronny Deila’s dream of reconstructing the Dundee United team of 2014 is on track as United have agreed terms for the sale of striker Nadir Ciftci, who is set to join Stuart Armstrong and Gary MacKay-Steven in green and white hoops.

United are feeling sore at losing three players to a rival but it could be argued this deal is a positive result for them.  They are no different than Celtic in needing to acquire good players who will enhance their team and generate transfer fees when they leave.

Armstrong and Mackay-Steven gave Celtic a timely boost when they arrived in the team in February.  If Ciftci adapts as quickly he’ll do well.

Signing a backup goalkeeper is a tricky call.  Do you blow a large slice of budget on a genuine contender for the goalkeeper’s jersey, or perhaps promote the next teenage David Marshall?  Both are viable calls.  If we sign Logan Bailly (29) for a fee from Belgian club Leuven the expectation at Lennoxtown is that he will push Craig Gordon.

That would leave us with competition across the field, apart from the left back slot…..

RWE … I have seen him do stand up and seen his show … quite good. I think my sister, who is at the CBC, knows him … I think you may have posted his Celtic connections before … but now that you have reminded me, I will have to make a point of watching him more often … we tims have to stand up for each other!

Auldheid – thanks for the clarification on that – just not quite sure why the SMSM are so sensitive about upsetting the peepul by spelling it out just like you have done – its almost as if they were physically frightened of them…..

    Martin Odengaard,

told several times now, its a live option for th bhoy to come to celtic park. thats from 2 connections in Oslo and Madrid, both in the football world.

seems the boy is too choose.

ps, been told he is not settling in madrid set up for youths what so ever.

    ===============================

I suspect he doesn’t like the weather and the food.

In days gone by I could have said he’ll settle right in to Glasgow on both scores then. But to be fair the food is pretty good these days. We can guarantee that it’ll be either pishing down or freezing for most of the year and when the summer arrives in early June for a week he can go skiing or something before returning for pre seasons mixture of heavy and light showers…….

Or am I just being a pessimistic grumpy old barsteward?

  6. Auldheid,

Could a HMRC win start the collapse of the EPL bubble, after all there are plenty of the top teams in line for massive bills if this goes through, lots of those teams are sitting on massive debt.

You might change your mind when you know more.

You might even want to chip in to help when you do. ;)

  8. Canalamar

Possibly. I don’t know the figures but as long as Sky and BT are pumping in money they might be able to keep going.

I’m hoping Kodi and the ilk will cut Sky’s revenues so much the EPL will face the problem the division below had when their broadcaster (I forget their name) went tit’s up.

  9. Canamalar – most of them could pay the bills with parachute payments from relegation. I don’t think it will have those repercussions. The only thing that’ll burst that bubble is people realising they are being sold a pup. But then ‘people’ watch WWF. So I am not holding my breath.

    I am becoming increasingly cynical…..

Cifti is it then, some are fine with it others ain’t, nothing new in that, me like all the others signed before him will give him a chance .

I tend to think that if we had signed Xavi from Barca, some on here would moan about his age, keeping the youths out and him only being here to top up his pension. (You know who you are ).But each to their own eh, I would rather go through life with a half full glass than a half empty one.

I was under the impression that the five cases which they rfc were advised by counsel to pay constituted owing of social taxes and therefore they should not have been granted a licence to play football am I wrong on this .this appeal by hmrc should have no bearing on that decision by the sfa

  12. mike in toronto on

Telbhyoy … thankns for that. Glad to hear it . We look a different team when he is playing.

Auldheid …. As you know, I do not always share your faith in the process (or even those running our club), but when I read your posts, I ALWAYS come away admiring your love for Celtic, and resolve and commitment! I may not always agree with your conclusions, but, I know your heart is in the right place, and whatever the outcome is, guys like you, Morrissey and the others deserve and have my utmost respect for soldiering on while dealing with the crap you have.

    Respect.

  13. No need for many on CQN to follow any fitness regime.

This due to posters jumping to conclusions, flying off the handle, running down the players (before they’ve even kicked a baw), knifing the club in the back and dodging common sense.

The funny thing is that once again it will be the hysterical Minnie’s that are the first to proclaim Ronny Deila a saint once we have won a few games. :-)

Yeah…those BAD Celtic supporters keep complaining.

Shame on them for not believing everything the board say

They should think themselves lucky even to be admitted to Celtic Park.

    Ban them.

Not for me here we go again, develop a player for another team at the expense of our youth system.

    Hail Hail.

  24. Odegaard will bring huge exposure to Celtic, I think it’s a deal that makes a lot of sense, Ronnie and the player know and trust each other, the player has bags of talent, Celtic will be an option for players of similar ilk, what’s not to like

  25. Tomthe Tim

I hear what you are saying but with Govt policy supposedly looking to cut down tax evasion, the Appalling Vista would be that policy being rendered useless by what to the layman has looked like an obvious tax evasion system which has only been legitimised because of who is using it.

I’m not sure RFC or TRFC carry the clout or fear they once did.
