The kind of Armageddon that buys you a meal, takes you to a show & onto a nightclub

738

As far as Armageddons go, this one will surely be known as the Amiable Nursemaid of all Armageddons.  The kind that not so much wipes everyone out, but buys them a meal, then takes them to a show and onto a nightclub.

Sky has renewed their deal to cover the Scottish Premier League after Our Man sorted them out yesterday.  They will show a handful of Scottish Football League games as part of the deal, a nice quid-pro-quo for SPL clubs for their annual contribution to the lower leagues.

Delicious irony: those SFL rights are worth more to each SPL club than they are to any SFL club.

Chief harbinger of doom, Neil Doncaster, will, on the one hand, be relieved that there is still income to pay his wages.  On the other hand, he must surely be embarrassed at the spectacularly in accurate scenario he portrayed to SFL clubs, and to several people in the media.  Did he embark on a flamboyant bluff or did he simply not know what he was talking about?

Remember, why we are here in the first place… Our good causes this year are The Haven Centre in Blantyre, Oscar Knox Neuroblastoma Appeal, Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and Aberdour Primary School Parents’ Association.

We have already distributed over £2000 thanks to the sale of a Joseph Gormley painting back in April. We have two further fantastic paintings by Joseph; one of Scott Brown and one of Henrik Larsson. We also have a wonderful signed Neil Lennon print by the artist Gary Brandham.

The items are being raffled on ebay right now for the price of a £1 ticket. Winners will be drawn at the CQN Open on Friday night. There will be further raffles and auctions on Friday night with some excellent golfing and other sporting activities been donated by the Celtic family. Perhaps the pick is a limited edition canvas print of John Thomson, donated by the John Thomson Memorial Committee. There are only 22 of these in the entire world, representing the 22 years of John’s life.

This is a unique opportunity to win three great pieces of Celtic memorabilia, items which would normally be pushed out of the reach of most people at auction. Tickets cost £1, buy as many as you like, but participate. This is what your club is all about!

Ernie Lynch. I’m lucky enough to be able to go to the game tomorrow and thank God for that as I know i’m fortunate. Previously I paid very little attention to the financial side of Celtic. Now I will put everything I can into our club. I want my grandchildren to be going in fifty years time to enjoy being part of the greatest football club in the world. Bar none. As supporters we have to stick together and support Celtic however we can. The PR disaster to which you lazily refer is not of our making and whilst we’re on the subject why did you not take up p67’s many offers to meet and discuss your complaint’s??????????????????? Leave us alone and ‘phone snyde Ernie. You are letting the side down yet Again.HH.

  6. DJBEE- Whenever you get someone like Alex Tomo on or some of the quality callers who can tear Daryll, Hugh etc up for toilet paper then it is COMPULSIVE listening, but when it is the likes of King and McColl getting a free run aided and abetted by so called Celtic fans calling in and dancing to their tune then it ceases to be informative or interesting, it is merely a propaganda machine.

I gave it 20 minutes tonight then switched it off.

  7. Re kids tickets

CFC have embarrassed themselves over a pittance …stupid behaviour

CFC must have known that the Huns were in trouble why sell season tickets without building in a proviso should the Huns no longer be in the league

  8. Can someone tell me what the company, Celtic FC Ltd, SC223604, date of incorporation 24/09/2001, means in regard to the club?

There is a hun claiming all monies go through it.

I think our custodians realise that their first priority is the continued flourishing of CFC.

This year our nearest rivals could be one of a few contenders, the defhunct kub are irrelevant for the moment.

The hun history thing will be a fight to the death………….but we’ll win the argument.

    Huns WWII titles:

    1) Official football competition was suspended for the duration of the war, so none of them should count.

    2) There was no national league during WWII, the Huns won the Southern League, so even if they were official, they were only regional, not national titles anyway.

    3) Only one Hun first team player in 1939, Willie Thornton, saw active service. The rest were in the shipyards and one joined the army as a PT instructor.

    4) Ask a Hun for a list of Rangers players who joined the armed forces in WWII and I guarantee you’ll get a long list of players who either left before 1939 or joined after 1945.

I think our Board are trying to get us to another as quickly as possible ….. Honestly think they give 2 monkeys about the bhuns ……

I’m very selfish about their demise…… I am honeatly, and truly, and ENORMOUSLY delighted that I won’t have to set eyes on them, or their supporters, for at least 2 years ….. Although I do believe they are finished

Mark my words …….i’ll give them until December

  12. Bhoys why do you listen to these radio tadgers

I understand yoor comment on losing interest in Scottish football. Totally understand and probably deep down feel the same way but I’m going to make a real effort this year to support the club I love.

I’ll be there tomorrow night, as will you, and I’ll be back on Saturday along with my younger daughter who has never previously taken an interest in Celtic until now but who is really looking forward to Saturday.

I think I’ll breathe fresher air on Saturday knowing that for at least one year we’ll be free of the scum in the SPL.

Lots of talk about what might happen next year but that’s for then. There’s as much chance of Sevco2 being around as Thems moving up a division.

Let’s back NFL and his players this season.

  14. the long drawn out admin and failed CVA achieved the purpose of them not going under and out of existence during last season. Now the obfuscating huns in the SFA are choosing to ignore their own rules and passing the buck as often as they can with impunity so that there is a club called ‘Rangers’ still in Scottish football this coming season , and will choose to ignore/reply to any questions that the new club can retain the dead club’s history

  15. Celtic have got this wrong. The £50 season ticket for under 13’s was a great initiative, sadly it got less attention in the press than its withdrawal has had.

Surely in the current climate it would have made more sense to continue with the policy with the expectation that more parents would take their children in the absence of the hun.

In fairness I do believe that anyone who purchased the ticket at £129 will receive a £30 refund/discount from the club.

In my defence, I was typing quickly while listening to the Motherwell game …LOL

Apologies, I left the blog to watch the volleyball.

This PR disaster has little to do with Sevco’s situation. We have not and are unlikely to sell out our allocation of SB’s this year for many reasons, not all due to Sevco. Therefore the decision to sell some tickets for kids at £50 but to sell these same tickets to new renewers or late renewers for £125, because they are getting the 2 Rangers games (played by Dundee) was cynical and counter productive. An extra £10 on each adult SB would go far in countering this so-called “financial necessity”.

We need to nurture future fans when they are young. Families with young children find it difficult to justify the expense of individual tickets for games,

Bottom line is, we were willing to sell this product last year. Times are tight. Do you think a jump from £50 to £125 is justified?

Not all criticism of the Board is board bashing. They are human; they get things wrong. They would earn a lot of goodwill and increased spending by others if they took a more sympathetic approach to young fans and their families.

Celtic Football Club was set up in 1887, played its first football match in 1888 and incorporated as a company in 1897. Since that time, the company has set up a number of subsidiary companies to run different aspects of the company. This one in particular run the operation of the stadium.

Nothing sinister at all, just a business decision. The key thing to note is the the company that was the original football club has been in operation continuously for 125 years.
