The land of registration anarchy

796

So how about this scenario, Celtic Youths are trailing in their league with 10 games to go when they register three new players, but someone’s ‘at it’.  The players are all over-age but the date of birth on their registration forms have been incorrectly completed, so the players are registered and become eligible to play the remaining games.  Celtic Youths win their remaining games and win the league.

At the end of the season the deception is uncovered.  The people responsible for filling the forms out incorrectly are criticised but one is president of the Scottish Football Association, who give evidence to an inquiry that as the Association registered the players, the results must stand.

Time to “draw a line under it” is the line from the SFA chief executive, hoping with all his might that no one mentions the Scottish Youth Cup games the players also played in, which would invoke a parallel punishment to the one recently imposed on Spartans Youths for exactly the same offence in the same competition.  The chief exec also dismisses attempts to call those criticised by the inquiry to account as scapegoating.

Ridiculous?  Of course, but this is what we’ve just experienced, with another club, of course.

Challenging the verdict, if possible, is a worthwhile endeavour but it will only treat one symptom of the many issues facing Scottish Premier League clubs, who could be forgiven for losing the will to compete within the rules.  Fans of several SPL clubs now believe their best interests are served by playing in an environment beyond Scotland – for a whole range of reasons.

We have to work with fans of other clubs to make the case for the SPL, as a unit, to leave Scottish football (I see cross-club initiatives are already underway).

On a completely unrelated question, if you had £21m in the bank late last year, and you were burning cash at £1m per month, which year would you run out of money?

  1. Just in and haven’t scrolled back, probably repeating what other posters may have discussed earlier. If the Huns lost 7 million in first 7 months in a period where they got in Season Book money, surely they are going to lose a great deal more for the period Dec to June. Creating a “Profit” by revaluing Assets is a nonsense, what counts is operating Profits or Losses. I reckon they will be lucky to have 7 or 8 million left in the Bank by Season End, that should see them run out of Cash by Christmas.

Turkish referee Fırat Aydınus will be in charge on Wednesday, it’s his début season refereeing at Champions League level. #Celtic #Juve

  3. what a sad pack of cheats ? if you’re going to cheat , don’t get caught. If you get caught don’t bullship, you look like a tw^t, hold your hands up and say fair cop governor, you can have them back!

  4. quick question….am in Newcastle on Wednesday night. Is the Tyneside Irish Centre still a Celtic place to watch the match?

I was in there about 8 years ago and they were charging “strangers” £1 to sign in and watch the Hoops. Has that changed?

  5. These ‘accounts’ as far as I am aware are unaudited so we’ll probably find that the £7 million loss is a bit of a conservative estimate. As regards signing players like Jon Daly, who are out of contract, these guys ain’t gonna come cheap and will be looking for a sizeable signing-on fee as well as decent wages. So there are two ways of looking at this, it is either a bit of propaganda or they are seriously looking at increasing their monthly loss to well above £1million.

STV are scum but, unfortunately, they have been given the ammunition by our own people and at the end of the day it is a sad state of affairs when we are let down by the people we trust.

Sitting at the back door in Coatbridge ,and heard a terrifying scream of NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

think Jude just heard about Daly :))

  7. Jon Daly: have they just discovered the existence of the Republic of Ireland? I’ll believe this one when I see it. Nice link on a day of big losses.

  8. Amazing if they can get Jon Daly; a more than useful player.

So, in one stroke they sign an ROI player, give 2 fingers to Dundee Utd and get themselves a decent player – albeit, as ever with they Huns, one with no resale value.

Be sure to sign and date the contract twice now John. We would not want results to have to be amended.

Did you begin in 62? If so, I may have known the Brian Morrison you mention. Mind you, I haven’t seen him in a long, long time.

I thought I started in 60 but thinking about it it must have been 61.

Brian Morrison started at the same time as me.Was in my class in St.Monica´s in Pollok.

Last time I saw him was at the 4-0 Cup final in 1970.He fainted & me & eddie Griffin had to carry him down to the track for the ambulancemen.

I wentto Jersey for a few years not long after & then England a few years later.

  10. I wil ask my Turkish friends if wrestling is acceptable with Bey Fırat Aydınus.

I will let Neil know seeing as UEFA seem to be a bit slow answering his calls.

SPL Fans United believes that we all need a change of environment.

We are supporters of clubs in the top flight of Scotland yet consistently we have been failed by those who administer the club in Scotland.

This site is the brainchild of a collection of fans from different clubs currently in the Scottish Premier League. If you have a room full of Arabs, Caley Thistle, Dons, Hibbees, Hoops and Jambos then you might not expect much consensus on anything! However, we’re all agreed that the top flight in Scottish football has to seek a new home.

We have to impress upon our clubs that the league as a whole has to find another, better, environment. We believe that the Scottish Football Association is not fit for purpose. Those in charge at Hampden handled the Rangers situation appallingly last summer. Now it appears that the association’s registration criteria for players are rather different to anything that would be found anywhere else.

Gates are dwindling, kids in our towns are wearing Manchester City and Chelsea tops instead of their local clubs. The SFA has failed us time without number and if our clubs do not heed our wishes they too will be failures.

This will not be solved by clubs trying to fashion their own plans, but by the SPL clubs moving forward together. For this to happen then all of the fans of SPL clubs need to get on-board.

  13. What has Campbell Ogilvie planned for a liquidated club that reforms as a newco and subsequently goes into administration?? Is the punishment automatic entry into the SPL??

Come on Campbell let’s see how much you can really cheat!!

Which piece of news today will be the most hurtful to the archetypical Larkhall Bear ?

Will it be the fact that they are losing ONE MILLION Pounds each month…………. ?

Or will it be that the solution to their pitiful on-field performances is to bring in an Irish Taig striker ?

I am prepared to bet that option number two is by far the more hurtful.

    How sweet it is.

£7M Loses story gets forgotten as sevco put on pretence of wanting to sign John Daly.

Sevco-“John, can we talk to you about signing a pre contract”.

    Daly -“Of course”.

    Sevco-“we’ll give you about £500 a_week”

    Daly-“No chance!”.

Sevco-“well, no one can say we didn’t try. Lets just sign Billy Boyne from Linfield instead”.

  16. corkcelt

Thought it a bit strange that the accounts included some £23 million in “negative goodwill”. One interpretation of that is a “gain occurring when the price paid for an acquisition is less than the fair value of its’ net tangible assets”, or in other words newco bought the assets of and from oldco (well the administrators) for less than they are worth. Well, we knew that already, but the fact is BDO has not yet liquidated Rangers FC, and have accounts from newco stating that their tangible assets are worth £23m more than they paid for them. I know The Rangers alienate most people, but is that not taking gratuitous alienation too far?

Can anyone recommend a good hotel in or around Glasgow City Centre? Looking for something with a bit of character/history for a group of 10 people, staying 3 nights in August.

  27. Rangers have agreed to sell their stadium naming rights to sports retailer Sports Direct, the club’s chief executive has claimed.

Charles Green said the deal would be finalised in the coming weeks, with artist’s impressions of how Ibrox would look under the changes expected to be released on the club website.

“We are now into the stage where we are doing some layouts, some pictorials of how it might look and we’ll stick those on the website shortly so the fans can see what’s being proposed.

I also gather that the financial director of Zombie FC has stated that ‘it was always our intention to post a loss’ . Whilst I can only admire the company’s ability to achieve this objective I wonder if intending to post a loss is legal. Likely in the first 7 months probably but to intend to do so. Hmmm
