The Patrick and Leigh Show

782

Whenever Leigh Griffiths and Patrick Roberts were on the ball last night, Lincoln Red Imps sensed danger. Both could control instantly, control with little space and disorientate defenders. Leigh and Patrick aside, the rest had an excellent first half. Passing was crisp, accurate and fast.

The shape of the team, with variously Lustig, Brown, Tierney and Shevchenko operating in a moveable back three, allowed players to find space between Red Imps’ 5-4-1.

These games are not about impressing anyone, they are about getting into the next round, but the tie was over by halftime, allowing Celtic to step the pace down, and Red Imps to show that they were more than they appeared to be in the first half.

Stiffer tests lie ahead, when more will need to perform at the levels of Patrick and Leigh.

  1. My friends in Celtic,

Earlier talk of that the EPL will be eclipsed by the Chinese leagues. Imo this will not happen.

The EPL is a global league with geography being the only English component. I can see EPL games being played all round the world.

As for the Chinese, yes they will be big players and will demonstrate their wealth.. But in the EPL.

I see a Chinese conglomerate have recently bought Wolves. They will no doubt plough loads of cash into this club and the EPL beckons.

Hail, Hail to all. A great evening of differing opinions expressed civily. I agree with an earlier poster: James Forrest has definitely stimulated debate, whether you agree or disagree with his views.

    TET

just seen young Aitchisons miss again ,from another braw cross from Calvin

  3. The youngsters have played well unto a point.

Build up to slow and allows Sociedad to pack defensive zone.

Goal game from poor choice by goalie to give ball to guy under pressure who chipped it to middle but they intercepted and scored.

Biggest difference i noticed that their central mids when they pick up ball run at defense forcing us to change shape while our centre mids just pass wide. They also are exposing our left back.Ralston on the other side looks strong.

Young Miller looks good and was unlucky to have goal chopped off.

The EPL is already dependent on Chinese money, well really HSBC & Sky (who have huge interests in SE Asia). If China feels that the Danish league better represents their values then that will become well above its station as the EPL is now. It wasn’t that long ago Man City & Chelsea were 2nd division cannon fodder.

No chance we will sign anyone tonight. Hopefully one wildcard signing on the plane on Monday. Pedro under pressure.

  6. James, when you are on the last step, someone comes in with a different opinion, a different point of view, most happen early in a process, but they also come in last minute.

It’s business. We will also be used, it’s just business.

    Love ya back Brother:-)

My smiley has a nose btw:-) see, don’t understand noiseless smileys!!!!!

Need to catch a few beers soon.

And sometimes the bottom line(fee) is not the issue.

Clauses, sub-clauses, wording on a contract, and minute shite are.

    Frustrating.

But I won’t give the club a hard time for looking after the long term interests of the club.

    I will get frustrated though.

  7. Lefty

Aye it was easier to score :-(

Young Calvin is a stand out, should be training with the big team imo, he has it and will only get better given exposure.

    HH

  8. Did Calvin not et some award for being te best player in Europe,World at his age level.Something like that.

  9. With less than three hours from the deadline, looks like the suits have decided that our current squad is good enough to negotiate the second away qualifier.

Yet another gamble on the reputation of the Club as a whole, forget the money.

No doubt reality is beginning to bite for Brendan and his two assistants.

In this case, it’s Mr. Lustig to partner Erik.

  10. Brilliant stuff from the young Hoops, PS Cork City are also leading by a goal against Hacken of Sweden. At the moment great to be a Cork Celt,
