Some clarity………. This morning’s report on football brands, issued by brand management company, Brand Finance, has been hugely misreported. It’s not a list of the world’s richest clubs, but an assessment of the value of their brands. Although this sounds like boring business-speak, your brand is important, it’s how you define your club, what it means to you and to others. It’s something you will never put a price on, but others do.
Celtic are listed 34th most valuable, an improvement on the previous year, despite the lack of Champions League football last season. The usual suspects from England, Spain and Germany dominate the top of the list.
Celtic have been busy redefining their brand in recent seasons. Hosting the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony positioned Celtic Park in a different way, while the on-going improvements around the stadium have lifted the environment enormously.
For a century Celtic were largely defined as part of the ‘Old Firm’, and in some places it still is, but with memories fading of that particular definition, Celtic are increasingly viewed in isolation. A decade ago sponsors were fearful of engaging with one part of the Glasgow divide in case they alienated the other. This is not the case anymore.
Every football club needs a stage, and without regular Champions League football Celtic will struggle to maintain brand value, no matter how good it performs elsewhere.
We have a distinct, positive, heritage, which football fans and other brands alike are keen to associate with, while the Celtic Park match day reputation remains high. And although we take it for granted too often, the legacy benefits Celtic continue to reap from the Lisbon Lions is astonishing. The brand benefits of the club being honoured by Uefa president Michel Platini on Friday, and the whole of Europe reporting Celtic as the first team to do the European Cup, domestic league and cup treble since Barcelona emulated them on Saturday, continue to position Celtic way ahead of where they would otherwise reach.
Try to avoid The Scotsman’s reporting of this story, they’ve horribly confused dollars with pounds, car crash of an article. This item is an interesting backdrop to an article here last week. Protect your brand above all else. Don’t allow an aggrieved third party take control of it.
I strongly predict you’ll hear this sentiment later today: ‘It’s not my money that’s going to be used, it’s the fans’ who will cough up’.
It’s early June. You have four months to prepare yourself for the Great Scottish Run. I know there are literally hundreds of you who have ran a 10k, and more who are capable of running/walking one.
Here’s what to do: Sign up for the 10k or half marathon, register with the Celtic Foundation and raise £125. You’ll love it and give yourself lots of motivation over the summer months.
Register here then email the Foundation here cfcfoundation@celticfc.co.uk to tell them you would like to run for them. Let’s get 100 people running for Celtic.

Rangers owner Craig Whyte wields the axe again as Dave King is booted off Ibrox board
07:29, 13 FEBRUARY 2012
BY JAMES TRAYNOR
EXCLUSIVE: Dave King has been ruthlessly axed as a Rangers director for daring to question Craig Whyte’s regime.

DAVE KING has been ruthlessly axed as a Rangers director for daring to question Craig Whyte’s regime.
South-African based King was told by e-mail late on Friday afternoon he had been kicked off the beleaguered club’s board.
Record Sport believes the latest boardroom change will be announced on the Plus Market today with Ibrox sources insisting King’s dismissal is punishment for objecting to Whyte’s dealings.
Rangers fans will be shocked by this latest departure as many of them saw King as the man who would save their club.
King was alarmed when we revealed the new owner had mortgaged four years of season tickets to raise £24.4million.
The deal with Ticketus was done without the previous board’s knowledge and although Whyte later said he’d been left with a £7m bill from Ticketus, he was quickly slapped down by the man who sold him the club last May.
Sir David Murray firmly denied Whyte had been left to pick up a Ticketus tab.
King was the last link between Whyte’s board and the old guard but he has been dumped just as chairman Alastair Johnston, chief executive Martin Bain, financial director Donald McIntyre and Paul Murray were after the takeover.
Thanks, Mon the Hoops!
I was actually in working with a company based there I didn’t even realise there was a time limit for parking.
I see big John Guidetti has been talking drivel again goals scored in Scotland dont count towards International caps for Sweden. Oh that will be why Henrick Larsson played so often for Sweden then.I think big Guidetti is an attention seeker who should concentrate on improving his game. H.H.
FAC open meeting.
This meeting will take place on Wednesday 10th June in St Anne’s primary school at the corner of Crownpoint Rd and Fielden St beginning at 7pm.
Michael McMahon of Labour and Liam McLaughlin of the SSP will be speaking but unfortunately all 4 SNP MSPs who were invited have all turned down the opportunity to defend a piece of legislation which they introduced.
There will also be personal accounts from some people who have been either arrested, charged or found guilty under the OBAF Act.

On the day we won at Fir Park and battered them but nearly dropped points towards the end, I watched the antics of Guidetti closely.
I didn’t say anything on here because unfortunately there are rockets on here who see any opinion as negativity.
He played the crowd and at one stage apologised to the Celtic support for missing a glaring opportunity. I found it cringeworthy and realised that day that his stay with us would be short lived.

Might try that one for my mortgage

I’m surprised at that mate because I thought he had injunctions in place to prevent any press criticism or scrutiny of him personally.
John Guidetti.
A legend in his own mind.

Brilliant….hahahahahahaha….
HT I can’t attend that FAC meeting as I am travelling on business (as per bloomin usual). I am not surprised at the snp contingent avoiding it. They are too scared to face the consequences of their actions and far too arrogant to listen. A magical combination.

I saw that sham acting performance at FirPark also, I turned to my bhoy and described Guidetti as an idiot, he refused to see it, but sees him now for what he is.

Don’t be too hard on them.
They’re just following orders.

If I remember John Guidetti missed 4 or 5 sitters that day at Fir Park. His antics of laughing and covering his mouth with his hand in mock horror when he missed scoring chances, annoyed the life out of my son and I. We changed our opinion of him that day. Butsybhoy was none too happy either.

Indeed that’s what I’ve heard also.

I think Tallybhoy has summed it up by saying he was a legend in his own mind. It’ll be interesting to see how his career pans out.
Sad to see some of the revisionists out again miscrying MON
When he was appointed we all hoped he would do the business but after finishing miles behind the Huns – how many really believed that we would win a Treble in his first season!
People talk of the money he spent but remember that was the heyday of the Huns backed by the BoS splurging millions on the like of Tor Andre Flo!
Then there’s the old – “he didn’t play the Celtic way” guff!
A midfield with Lennon, Lambert, Petrov and Thomson yet all we did was hit it long!
Some guys must have watched games with their eyes shut!
Then there’s the ” what RD could do with all that money” – yet in comparative terms RD had a much bigger advantage over his Scottish rivals than MON ever did – yet was the Treble won?
How many Eorpean finals have we been in?
Mr Stein took us to two – only MON has taken us to another!
Make no mistake if we had not appointed MON – God knows where we would be just now!

HT – I had a rant at Wee BGFC at the game that day for the same reason – the classic big “I am…”.
That said, happy to admit that I did like his antics at the start – in fact, he breathed life into our team and support during a precarious early season period. His crowd engagement, and red-hot run of scoring free kicks was just what was needed at the time.

Agreed with Tallybhoy twice there. His Guidetti comment and his favourite Naka goal. :)
Croppybhoy, martin gave us our pride back.
I feel we never recovered psychologically from judas signing at the evil empire until martin got us back on the right track.
He psyched them out with his benchmark comment. I still smile today at that comment.
Delaney’s,
I did a little rooting about re the Polish in Ireland.
I found out that the Polish too are going to celebrate Dublin 2016.
Here is a link you may like, look at the comments, there are a couple of eejits there. I ignore them.
