Last year we attempted to quantify the money other SPL clubs were denied by Rangers improperly registering football players – on the assumption that being found guilty of improperly registering football players was actually worthy of punishment.
Below is an excerpt of the article and figures:
Some of the losses were easier to calculate than others. For example, it was easy to calculate that when Rangers won the title in 2009 with improperly registered players, earning automatic qualification to the Champions League group stage, they denied Celtic £15m European earnings, plus £340k SPL prize money. Other losses are less clear, specifically when a club was denied a place in a qualifying round for the Champions League or Uefa Cup, which they may or may not have progressed from.
We have established three figures for each club in the SPL during the season just finished, to cover the period from 2000 to 2012:
Minimum loss:
The absolute minimum each club was denied from European and SPL prize money as a result of Rangers finishing above them with ineligible players.
Weighted loss:
The figure based on Scottish clubs gaining entry to Champions League/Europa League (Uefa Cup) group stages from 20% of their qualifying campaigns (which is slightly less than trend).
Maximum loss:
The maximum a club could have achieved if it qualified for the European group stage it was denied entry to.
Out estimates take no account of the subsequent effect money has on future years. For example, If Celtic earned an additional £15m from entering the Champions League group stage in 2009-10 their league challenge for that season would have been £15m stronger, and Rangers £15m weaker, potentially resulting in consequences in future years.
This multiplier effect would have benefited Celtic but it would be likely to have a greater effect on other clubs, some of whom would be denied the enormous percentage increase in budget automatic qualification to European group stages would have brought.
Hearts finished immediately behind Celtic and Rangers more often than any other club over the period and suffer the greatest potential losses, even more so than Celtic. Hibernian, Aberdeen, Dundee United and Motherwell also suffered significant losses.
Several clubs got nowhere near European football over the period, and some of the 11 spent only a few years in the SPL but each club lost over £1m.
Figures for each club are:
Hearts
Maximum: £72.3m
Weighted: £16.3m
Minimum: £6.2m
Celtic
Maximum: £46.7m
Weighted: £21.9m
Minimum: £17.4m
Hibernian
Maximum: £34.8m
Weighted: £8.4m
Minimum: £3.6m
Aberdeen
Maximum: £21.1m
Weighted: £5.5m
Minimum: £2.7m
Dundee United
Maximum: £20.8m
Weighted: £5.2m
Minimum: £2.4m
Motherwell
Maximum: £16.7m
Weighted: £4.4m
Minimum: £2.1m
Kilmarnock
Maximum: £5.1m
Weighted: £1.9m
Minimum: £1.3m
Dunfermline
Maximum: £3.4m
Weighted: £1.8m
Minimum: £1.5m
Inverness
Maximum: £1.3m
Weighted: £1.3m
Minimum: £1.3m
St Johnstone
Maximum: £1.1m
Weighted: £1.1m
Minimum: £1.1m
St Mirren
Maximum: £1.1m
Weighted: £1.1m
Minimum: £1.1m
In the event Rangers fielded ineligible players during the period under consideration, which everyone apart from Neil Doncaster knows, and even he will be unable to deny next week, we know the following:
Rangers received a minimum of £40.9m which should have gone to the 11 other clubs, assuming each club lost all their European group stage qualifying campaigns. This calculation does not include earnings from clubs now in the Scottish Football League, such as Hamilton Accies or [then]Dundee.
If Scottish clubs progressed to the group stages of European competition on only 20% of their qualifying campaigns the loss would be £69.0m.
The figure for total potential losses if clubs successfully progressed to every European group stage is, as the figure for 100% failure, more illustrative than likely, but the maximum cost to the 11 SPL clubs is £224.6m.
You can read our calculations here. European income figures were sources from Uefa data.
The people who really matter in this entire debacle are those who buy tickets for Celtic Park, Pittodrie, Easter Road, Tynecastle, Tannadice, Fir Park and elsewhere. It is patently clear that the game in Scotland is failing fans and clubs alike. It is time for fans of SPL clubs to unite and move beyond the busted grip of the SFA.
Only SPL fans, working together, can ensure each of clubs has a viable future.

What. Trust the SPL,SFA to do the right thing. More chance of a GB member getting into CP with a zombie banner.
Not trust them southside. Expose them.
TET
Efe as a centre forward ?
Not a bad idea.
I remember watching Olivier Tebily shortly after MoN’s appointment.
Can’t remember who were paying, but pretty sure it was a friendly. Olivier was a good athlete with good ball skills, but couldn’t apply the two with a positional / tactical nous to make himself a good footballer.
In this particular game Olivier was wandering around aimlessly, out of position, until MoN shouted at him from the dugout, and simultaneously told his replacement to get stripped. Suddenly Olivier started to comply.
What I liked about Martin was that he didn’t tolerate fools or chancers.
You were allowed to make a mistake once, perhaps twice, but, not thrice.
The relationship between NL and Efe is at a critical stage – his lack of concentration has now cost us in several games, and NL either confronts this and (temporary) drops him, or , the manager is undermined and other players know they can turn up half asleep and get away with it.
The main winner from yesterdays verdict was the SFA.
Whether rangers were guilty or not was of secondary importance in how all this panned out.
The spotlight had to be kept away from those responsible for this unholy mess.
The people in charge of administrating the game got it spectacularly wrong, either by incompetence or willful neglect.
So, was a safe pair of hands found
or is that just paranoia
The twisted logic and selective “evidence” used to arrive at this particular verdict and choice of punishment rendered leaves us all at a WTF moment.
Have they shot themselves in the foot though by using such a unique and baffling interpretation of the rules that too many people fear that this is nothing short of a stitch-up.I’m not talking about us Tims here but of a wider populace.
Is there corruption at a governance level.
This is surely a bigger story to investigate rather than did a football club act within the rules or default on taxes.
Some of the ghuys on here were extolling the virtues of LNS and his 2 associates pre-verdict.Reading some of their posts now, I’m not too sure that they still hold those same views.
Most of us outside the legal profession expect justice from an inquiry.
We don’t expect our intelligence to be insulted
Tsd please expand on why Rosa Parks having communist links has any bearing on what she did or the outcome of her action. Please. I gotta hear this…
laughin? Aye, right at you
If Brennan does have that remit perhaps we could appeal to the Celt in him to press the self destruct button on a few of his drones who have strayed onto our site.

Seems apt
SFTB – So you want to appeal against a non-existant verdict on charges that were never made? Again I ask, what exactly is it you want Celtic or the shareholders or the Green Brigade to appeal against, and to whom?
The Rangers are now the footballing equivalent of O J Simpson,
I knew he done it.
You knew he done it.
Everybody knew he done it.
But he got away with it! Or did he?
Where is he now?
Give it time Bhoys.
Hail Hail!
St Mirren tomorrow, thats all that matters!

Tom McLaughlin foghorns have just one purpose.
Only time I listen out for them is at the bells. They still carry on that old tradition in London . And Glasgow.
Other than that only children are momentarily impressed by them.
Tom SFTB is that most difficult of customers. A mediocrity who thinks he is anything but.
He rewords and twists everything.

Fortunately, she didn’t-and had a long and generally rewarding life after her time in the spotlight.
She died in 2005.

Morning Celts, I’ve been looking forward to a lie in all week but woke up early and still pissed off at Scottish footballs corruption.
Re Paul67’s leader and the monies lost/ stolen. We should sue the organisation responsible for our financial loss, the SFA have allowed this 11yrs of incorrect football registration for rangers players, they have allowed senior staff members to cover their mistakes (honest) and indeed kept the most senior figure employed in their organisation while knowing their part in the failed registration process, thereby allowing tracks to be covered and stories to be aligned, the truth hidden.
Follow the money, the SFA’s failure to apply adequate Governance has resulted in significant loss of revenue to rangers opponents in Scottish and European football, highlight their failure to apply Fifa’s laws re registration of players, name the guilty employed by the SFA especially those ex rangers IL employees.
The secrecy behind the corrupt Scottish football organisation should be brought to the fore, is there a secret organisation behind all this corruption? It certainly appears that way, what will Fifa say when they realise the SFA’s inability to apply Fifa rules and regulations.
Follow the money, sue for loss of earnings, communicate with all other clubs who have been affected by Scottish football corruption, highlight the link between senior ex rangers employees and current senior employees at the corrupt Scottish FA.
Bring the whole corrupt organisation to its knees, it’s all or nothing Celtic.
Still off the drink, doing the Celtic/ Kano 125 charity (it’ll be 9 weeks on Monday). Ive been severely tempted these last few days.
I’m away for a cuppa ☕Rosie lea.

Present,Miss.
My old uncle used to bristle with resentment at the treatment of Catholics in general and Celtic in particular and he was the man who introduced me to Celtic and used to take me to games in the early `60s.
He was 50 years older than me and I am no Spring chicken.
His days are gone ,as are the days of acceptance.
Our Club will know the best method of dealing with this latest injustice .
We are smart and we are rich.
I trust our Celtic to deal with this in the best interests of our Club.
They know what they are doing.
Of that I am sure.
K.T.F.
P.S. A wee win today would be nice.

I see a trend emerging……Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King……who next?
Your attempts to denigrate people who turned the racist tide (through peaceful means) is somewhat distasteful and I’ suggest racist in it’s origin.
Stick to the football analysis Kojo,

My comments were made without being aware of the C.F.C. statement which, for me,reinforces my confidence that our Board are well and truly on top of the situation.

Morning, well g’day as its about 5pm in Aussietim land?
I agree and we owe it to those who went before us to ensure no stone is left unturned to expose the corrupt Scottish FA.
The only way is to bring this out into the open, its war thats being played out to ensure the survival and ascendancy of the peepil, we ain’t fighting this war and in fact apart from a club statement we haven’t even showed up on the battlefield?
All or nothing.

An accusation of communism is denigration ?
Not for me.
Rosa Parks did the heroic thing.
Her personal politics were irrelevant.
Communist as an accusation followed by racist as an accusation.
Come on,mate,we`re all Tims.
Not sure about Rosa.:-)
Morning all, dawn breaking in the cool still Chilterns…
Haven’t managed to keep up with CQN over the last few day however I have read enough to feel the huge dispondency.
Personally I’m very disappointed yet little surprised by the findings of LNS’s SPL Commision’s conclusions.
I feel especially for Paul67, RTC & all who put some rigourously detailed and logical opinion together on the suspect and illegal goings on within Scottish Football.
Although their conclusion might not seem vindicated their contrbutions have been incontrovertible NOT inconsequential.
Why do I say that? Well firstly they undisputeably won the arguments, no one managed to discredit the FACTs, secondly where are RFC and how are the footballing Authorities viewed now? As a joke for all right thinking supporters.
The guys who exposed this sham were never taken on for the substance they were attacked as internet bampots.
Now the journalists who attacked those who highlighted the truth (instead of the men who sold the Jerseys) are discredited, their vile organs disreputed.
Sure we are left looking at an unedifing can of worms, but we all knew it was their, hidden, now it is open for everyone to see.
Remember the Chairman of the SPL and the President of the SFA are Rangers men, no doubt many of the minions in these organisations are too.
But they’re getting thinned out and exposed, lets not forget the advances that these internet bampots have made in the last two years is immense.
Twenty years ago Celtic was on the brink, at the mercy of those who would have seen us go bust, good Celtic me never let that happen, more good Celtic men have ensured we won’t be at their mercy or accept their cheating again.
As Neil said we have a CL qualifier, a cup quarter final and a Championship to win.
Hail! Hail! The Celts are here…
Good morning Timland.

The Club have played it smart in recent years.
In spite of the lack of confidence of some bloggers,we have improved dramatically in the thing that matters most.On the field.
The battlefield is behind the scenes.
Tactics,my fellow Tim.
Betcha we outwit the forces of evil.
It`s going to be fun to watch.
