There is a team in this squad but defending for buttons

Of all the football nonsense, I hate scapegoating most.  So Ryan, I’m sorry, but what on earth were you doing?  We were 0-2 ahead and had created several other very good chances.  Milan were nowhere, they had not mustered a cohesive attack. That foul was conceded in the perfect spot for a free kick taker; you could read the script on how momentum would switch the moment it was awarded.

Attackers are primarily there to exploit opponents weaknesses, Tom Rogic, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie combined to do this and put Celtic two ahead in the San Siro.  Tom came close on another occasion, Callum McGregor had a gilt-edged chance and having got himself into the perfect position, Jeremie Frimpong froze with Milan at his mercy.  We could have been out of sight.

There is a team in this squad.  The formation looked right.  Frimpong seemed liberated from his normal wide anchor, Rogic worried defenders before tiring; in particular, I was impressed by the way the ball was accurately bulleted across the field.

Oh, and we cannot defend for buttons.  I was chastised by a 16-year-old after the game for talking up the relative merits of this performance compared to Ross County.  Apparently there is a rulebook for defending two goal leads away to tier one teams, you defend like Ross County and close the game out.  But we don’t know how to defend like Ross County.  Imagine that!

What I will say is, they fought for their manager last night, Commando Christie in particular.

  1. Five defenders…..and a DM. The Brown-McGregor axis of eternal suffering and Eddie on his own, supported by 2 widemen with no end product….Christie shooting from anywhere and Rogic blowing out his bahookie by the 60th minute.

Soro on for a 10 minute cameo and Klimala for a 5 minute chaser.

Here’s hoping for a win when there is absolutely nothing else to do…

    To the barriers everyone :)

“I agree but it’s hard to take how easily they dispatched them whilst we toiled.”

I get over it by not watching them – I’ve seen enough of them this year to know how they play and that, unfortunately, they are no longer as reliant on Fat Alfie as they once were.

I am not surprised by the Dingwall result- I am more hesitant about ours to come

Wonder ifthe GB will still protest if we win 5:0? (yes, I know it’s unlikely)

I’d hope so as there is absolutely nothing in that line up to suggest the manager gets the problem less have an answer to them.

  6. what has happened to all the right score forecasters of 5,6 or 7 – 0 we used to get prior to kick off , looks like reality has kicked in

Went past Celtic park there. 50 odd stewards, 20 plus riot Van’s, polis everywhere including mounted. Thats only Springfield rd/London rd. There wis even a helicopter earlier.

Not 1 demonstrator. Talk about fake intelligence and authoritarian overkill.

  8. Nice to see Sky so keen to explore irregularities within Scottish football. It doesn’t sound as though we are getting a letter of commendation from the govt; despite our explanation:-

“The Scottish Government has condemned Celtic’s team photoshoot and said it is in breach of the current coronavirus guidance.

The Scottish champions posted a video of behind-the-scenes footage of their team picture session on November 17 on their Instagram and Twitter channels.

It shows the players and coaching team at Lennoxtown in the traditional three rows, side by side with each other.

The Scottish Government has branded the images as “irresponsible”, but Celtic say they have not broken any rules.

A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “We would condemn any gathering at a football club or sporting venue that is in breach of the Covid-19 guidance – wherever it takes place – agreed between the SPFL and the Scottish Government, that puts individuals and their families at risk of infection and serious illness.

“If the examples being highlighted today do prove to have happened, we would consider them deeply disappointing and irresponsible, and would expect this to be taken extremely seriously by the football authorities.

“Professional football has considerable privileges – but these depend on following the guidance.”

A Celtic statement said: “The photo was taken and published weeks ago and undertaken with all established protocols.

“We will happily discuss this with the Scottish Government should they wish to do so.

“Celtic’s own stringent protocols have ensured that, to date, following thousands of individual tests, we have recorded no positive cases within our squad with the only cases affecting the club being recorded while our players have been away on international duty.”

Sky Sports News understands that the SPFL cannot investigate the events of the photoshoot as it did not affect any fixtures and any probe would have to come from the SFA.

The SFA has been approached for comment.

  9. I don’t know what is sadder……………..

fences around Celtic Park………or the fact that some would want to rattle them?

(in Life , timing is usually everything)

    COYBIG.

    HH.

  10. RC

St Johnstone appear to be starting with both May and O’Halloran. As a competent outfit they are going to do, but better, what RC did last week and hit us on the break with a bit of pace.

The worrying thing is that, like last week, in a match where we need to win our creativity will come down to Rogic and maybe Christie (if disciplined) finding Eddie. Players with little of no creativity are Brown, this season’s Callum, 2 wing backs, 3 CHs…7 outfield players…

    WTAF Lennon?

  11. Can’t understand why some Supporters, just make smart ass negative posts just before a game as if to wind up their so called fellow Supporters.

Right now I don’t give a f**k about the Huns, Milan or Ross County.

Celtic are playing in 45 minutes, I just want to enjoy the game, hopefully see Celtic play well & win the points.

At this stage it looks like my best bet is to log off until game is over.

A real pity I joined this blog to enhance my Celtic experience not to spoil it.
