There is worse to come

812

Neil Lennon said we didn’t deserve to lose 4-1, as we dominated large parts of the game against a team who have lost their last four games (not against Celtic), conceding 14 goals in the process.  But oh, Neil, we absolutely deserved to lose by at least that margin.

Our disorganisation is a marvel.  Scott managing to start his jump goal-side of a dropping ball and ending up wrong side.  Callum playing three onside.  Kris A. not committing to block the cross (forgiven, trying to cover two positions), Chris J. attempting to intercept with the wrong foot (forgiven, fitness).  Hatem reliving his Ferencvaros highlights.  Full backs who are never back and produce few assists; there is no defensive midfield, unless you count the goalkeeper who feels the need to leave his box and play that position, just a midfield of nomads.

The team is a collection of individuals unencumbered by a workable strategy.  Opposition managers have their game plan written: defend deep, play on the counter and put numbers forward at set-pieces.  If we could defend counter-attacks and corner kicks, we would be having a legendary season, but we can’t, so everyone looks awful.

In sport, if you have evident fatal flaws and persistently fail to resolve them, you deserve every setback that comes your way.  It is hard to recall a Celtic team that deserved to lose more.  Let me give you a cheery prediction, you will soon forget about last night, as there is worse to come.

Thanks for the clip. I lost count of the set piece goals. 2 penalties and 4 direct free kicks, all goals?

Apart from Griffiths, whose percentages have fallen off, we don’t have anyone who can even hit the target! Sheer differences in class or application.

Aa far as I know managers are allowed to attend games.

so all 92 managers in english 4 top flights are allowed to attend that game?

    that doesnt sound right

these are laws made in parliament, i doubt they go into that level of detail

    ####

People are allowed to go to their work.

And watching other teams play is part of a manager’s job.

    So I don’t see a problem.

    Should we be hoping?

    Against Ross County?

    No disrespect to RC mind.

I’m guessing our highest paid players wages would just about cover a weeks wages for the RC players in total.

    Aye, here’s hoping.

  8. Yeah philbhoy – yeah, all I got left- some type of coming together. I even hoped it was as simple as getting CJ and KA back into defence – ha!

Try and stay in touch with the hun till christmas and hope that we get over the injuries, covid, hissy fits and a new spine to the team.

  9. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Evening all.

Busy all day so now just reading back 4-5 pages of comments.

CQN still does it for me after all these years.

On its best days it’s joyous.

    On good days it’s enjoyable.

On not so good days it’s interesting.

    Today, IMHO, it’s interesting.

I’m reminded, not for the first time, of Emmanuel Kant’s quote

“We see things not as they are but as we are”

We’re in a rut and we’re all feeling it.

I share the pain of the vast majority on here.

But there’s a tiny minority who pop up periodically and NEVER have a good word to say about our beloved club.

Respectfully (and somewhat rhetorically) I’d ask ….

If supporting Celtic brings you such universal displeasure why do you do it?

PS – Chavez, no offence intended but if your finance lecturer is suggesting Sevco are close either to

    a) being sustainable OR

    b) mirroring our financial model ?

He’s either deliberately lying or just talking BS.

    Hail hail

I stay away from the blog at times (for my own sanity) but when I do get drawn back … in the last few months when the team has been rubbish your posts have been excellent and very measured :-)

And for the record (and my wee fan club) I am 100% behind Neil Lennon and until Neil stops delivering trophies and is not our manager my support of our manager will never waver … fact 🍀

    ==============

There is a bit to be added covering events leading up to this years AGM. The text is all written, it is a matter of updating and timing.

Once contextualised the support at large will have the opportunity to make promises be kept but has to be organised to do so.

I’ll suggest how and the rest will be up to the support, more of the same or getting the ethos of Celtic back.

  14. GFTB

    All good here thanks!

Best wishes to yours to and especially the wee blade!

    Difficult time for everyone.

Fitba isny that important right now.

But I still want the ‘Tic to do well.

    I admire your indefatigability…

ive copied and pasted Philbhoy’s reply cos i couldnt spell ‘indef….’ 😆

but you did acknowledge that the team has been rubbish

so why wait until the point that NL doesnt deliver the trophy

instead of realising in advance that he almost certainly wont do it, and take pre-emptive action to get someone else in who might? 🤷🏻‍♂️

  16. Let’s all 9.29pm

I think at times this season we have been unplayable then don’t know how to play …

I can understand any Celtic fan wanting a change of manager ..,

    I don’t …

Blind Faith ??? Who knows ? Maybe I just want Neil to get through this … he is up against Stephen Gerrard who has won the square root of f all …. who is know a tactical genius …

If Neil stops winning trophies … fair enough …, until that day …

Neil Lennon CSC … not blind Faith … just Faith on what he has delivered

Thanks for the clip. I lost count of the set piece goals. 2 penalties and 4 direct free kicks, all goals?

Apart from Griffiths, whose percentages have fallen off, we don’t have anyone who can even hit the target! Sheer differences in class or application.

    ===============

I’ve told this story before knowing it might attract ribald comment but I’ll repeat and treat any comment of that ilk with chuckling disdain.

At amateur level in the second half of the 60s I had a good first touch, good ball control and was fast. I could score goals for fun and I mean some even made referees laugh.

Then I got married (cue ribald comment ) and my game went to feck.

I was still fast but first touch was a tackle, control had gone awol and I was dropped not just from first team but second team too. Cows arse wae a banjo territory.

But I hung in with second team standing on touchline in poor weather knowing I was only a spectator.

Then one day at Anniesland, Temple pitches maybe? the game was called off on account of pitch being frozen solid and rutted, accidents waiting to happen metaphorically flagged everywhere. “Broken ankle here”, “broken leg” there, “you will never look handsome again if you nose dive here” all over the place but hey, its Glesga, Saturday morning in winter, the old normal.

So we play a friendly and I get to start in place of the not so Bravehearts (or the sensible guys as they were better known).

Keeper clears the ball, our inside man nods it on, it comes off the hard surface at an unpredictable angle and I take it like I’m being handed my first child under total control. I knock the ball on an hit the post with a shot but am I disappointed ? No way. In my head Im giving it

    http://hoppip.tumblr.com/post/29723977595

and I got my first team place back and went through rest of that season unbeaten, winning two cups.

My point is form comes and goes and I tend to see the problem as lying more with the players whose confidence has gone than NL and patience is the key. (but recognise it is being tested)
