Tight at top, Yang and Tilio

168

I know what you are thinking.  With our two nearest rivals for the title facing each other tomorrow, there is a chance we can open daylight between them and us at the top of the table – if we manage to overcome Dundee.

Great, though this would be, I am less concerned about the threat from St Mirren.  Motherwell, joint top on points with Celtic, are the more potent force to concern the champions.  Their transformation since Stuart Kettlewell took over in October last year has been remarkable.  It should surprise no one that they are the Premiership side most capable of pushing Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.

We know better to over-expect from new signings.  They arrive with a flurry of expectation, positivity and flattering YouTube moments.  Getting to work on the park is always a challenge, though, even for the greats.  Still, while we are still processing the injury to Liel Abada, we will be tempted to look to Yang and Marco Tilio to bring something fresh to the team in the months ahead.  Hopefully we will see both at some point tomorrow.  You will remember when Leigh Griffiths was injured early in Brendan’s first tenure.  Newco were the next game and he was forced to play new signing Moussa Dembele in a game subsequently called the Derby Demolition.

A great opportunity has opened for someone.

I think Turkeybhoy has a point there re the away fans.

Celtic can’t sell the same seats twice. The season ticket seats are bought and paid for whether or not the holder uses the ticket. There is a seat next to me that is empty almost every week but the guy has held the season ticket for many years. Rarely, someone sits there because he has been given the ticket on a one off basis.

The seat cannot be made available for public sale. I’m sure that happens a lot. Also, seats in with the away fans cannot be sold to Celtic supporters.

As a result of factors such as these, Celtic can have no seats available to Celtic supporters (so Celtic area tickets are sold out) while other seats lie empty for reasons such as those mentioned but cannot be sold.

Celtic should maybe be saying to visiting clubs that they will not be given 800 tickets if we have seen that they normally only bring 30 odd supporters with them. Alternatively, say that if you ask for 800 tickets and only sell 100 you need to make up the difference to us for our financial loss.

More realistic allocations to visiting clubs might let us sell more tickets to our own supporters. Works when we don’t allow the huns in.

THere is an additional problem in that you can’t have Celtic supporters allocated unused seats in the away section due to segregation as well as home & away supporters using the same entry and exit points.

It is well nigh impossible to fill every seat in the stadium where there are away suppprters present.

Top class appraisal that makes perfect sense to me.

I posted some days ago that I believe we have the potential for a young/vibrant and successful squad and that under Brendan’s leadership that is exactly where we are heading.

We would like to be on a par with clubs like Benfica and Ajax, and be successful at scouting raw talent and turning it into profitable transfers down the line, whilst gaining success along the way.

That, as far as I can see, is the model we have, and one that boardroom, Brendan and backroom have fully bought in to.

However we must recognize that neither Benfica, nor Ajax, win their respective league titles every year – in Portugal there is notionally a three-horse race; i.e. Porto, Benfica & Sporting – although the former two have shared twenty titles between them this century – twelve for Porto & eight for Benfica.

In the Netherlands, again you may say this is also a three-horse race; i.e. Ajax,PSV & Feyenoord – although the former two have shared twenty titles between them this century – eleven for PSV & nine for Ajax.

So as we see, having a operating model akin to Ajax and Benfica means that by definition there will be seasons when the league title will not be won – in our two-horse race that means of course that our Ibrox rivals will. Is this something our support can take on board?

Do we really want to follow the Benfica, Ajax models and, if so, are we prepared to factor-in and accept some ‘down-time’ along the way?

With the extent of our seemingly never-ending injury crisis and the influx of young talent, will Brendan need this season to mould the squad?

  9. THere is an additional problem in that you can’t have Celtic supporters allocated unused seats in the away section due to segregation as well as home & away supporters using the same entry and exit points.

    ——————————–

    Not true.

When seats have been repurposed to home fans for the “away section” of 118 and 119 they use turnstyles 62-65 and adjoining stairs inside.

This happened for our championship trophy game last season, and the flag raising this season.

The away fans are segregated into section 120, which has turnstyles 66 and 67. and a dedicated staircase. This is the area in front of the police control room, and famously “behind the pillar”.

There are doors closed in the concourse that seperated 119 and 120.

Factual, been there, seen it in action. wandered around the area often as we have family in the family section next to it.

So are we now moving towatrds there are Celtic supporters who retain a Season Card, but cannot attend for whatever reason, and cant pass the ticket o n , so every week there are 1000 or so unoccupied seats ?

I read somewhere not so long ago about a club, might be Man United, who had challenged supporters who retained a ticket but didnt attend.

That is the way to go for me. Or the ticket exchange programme,

I still maintain, there are seats that have dropped off “the availabilty list” and they are never sat upon, ever.

Lets see, big test coming up for my old seat, it hasnt been used so far this season.

As to the accurate attendance nummber required for H&S, any links to the legislation ? That fascinates me, because Hampden Scotland game had hundreds of people standing in passage ways, same for our semi final and final there, and look at ibrox last weekend, and their european game, thousands over stated capacity.

Some supporters buses have spare ST’s donated when fans aren’t going to the games, and loads of non supporters transfer to ‘a friend’. Celtic turn a blind eye to ST transfers like this even though ST’s are technically non transferable.

We could build another tier on the Main Stand and increase the capacity? We could do a Sevco and slash the number of visiting fans. If you know a system how Celtic could or should in effect sell the tickets twice, write to John Paul Taylor C/O the ticket office.

Mind you if there was an easy way I’m sure ‘greedy Celtic’ would be using it.

  11. meanwhile , primary school kids who love the celtic wont be at the european games because their families cannot afford the addiotnal expense, dare i say it, very mean spirited in the run up to christmas.

Kids’ Season Ticket prices will remain fixed for the 15th season in a row. The Club’s commitment to our young supporters, both on and off the pitch, means young Celtic fans can secure their seat at Paradise from as little as £50 (less than £1 per week).

Under 13 Season Tickets start from £50 for 17 home matches (as little as £2.63 per match) and £110 for all 19 home matches (just £5.24 per match)

13-16 Season Tickets start from £105 for 17 home matches (just £5.53 per match) and £165 for all 19 home matches (only £7.86 per match)

17-18 Season Tickets from £159 for 17 home matches (only £8.37 per game) and £219 for all 19 home matches (as little as £10.43 per match)

are you ok with Celtic charging the prices they do for the kids ?

  14. SAINT STIVS

Even if every away ticket was sold and every away seat occupied, there has to be segregation, usually 3 or 4 empty seats in each row from back to front. That’s several hundred seats.

I repeat — It is well nigh impossible to fill every seat in the stadium where there are away supporters present.

  15. Tom,

it is simple, just put the 30 away supporter into 120, segregate them in there, sell the seats right up to the segregation there, it is easy.

  16. garygillespieshamstring on

Tom : I agree with your comments as regards the issues of segregation and the difficulties of selling the whole stadium as a result.

Only solution I can see is accommodating small numbers of visiting supporters in a section of the front stand (as happens at European ties), but I don’t know if that would involve asking season ticket holders to move seats or not. Hard to see a resolution tbh.

Cloud9 : Cheers. I appreciate where you are coming from regarding the need to recognise that we can’t win the league every year.

However as the other horse in the race continues to insist it is it’s dead father, I feel that we would need to win another 4/5 without reply to get rid of the “world’s most successful club” pash before our support (including me) might feel relaxed about that scenario.

BRS : 😂 Another poet laureate contender.

  17. The reason supporters stand at the front of the passageways at Hampden is because the view from the back of the stands is so poor that many give up their reserved spot and walk down to stand closer to the action.

  18. Celtic TV Unique Angle | Celtic 3-2 Rangers | Unbelievable Scenes at Paradise!

    Look at the first goal,

Kyogo goes to the “away corner” all sections rammed with Celtis supporters. No huns allowed, so we can sell out the park to Celtic supporters, no segregation required, nothing to worry about outside the stadium.

    SOLD OUT BANNERS GO UP.

    Capacity 60,355.

    Published attendance – 59,621.

so 734 ticket holders never turned up ? or some seats were not made available to sell ? or a combination of both ?

I do agree on something, the greedy board and ticket office are missing a sales opportunity by not getting all the seats occupied on a match day.

Further flexibility will be provided by the launch of a ticket buy-back scheme, allowing fans to sell unwanted season tickets back to the club on a match-by-match basis where there is demand. This will be in addition to existing policies which enable tickets to be forwarded to Official Members or donated to Manchester United Foundation.

Collette Roche, Manchester United chief operating officer, said: “When the Fans’ Advisory Board (FAB) asked us to review our Season Ticket policies, we were pleased to work with them to explore options for providing fans with more choice and flexibility. We recognise that not all Season Ticket-holders are able to attend every home game over the course of the season, and given the high demand, we want to increase the opportunities for Official Members to access seats that would otherwise go unused.

“We have listened to fans’ opinions and worked closely with the FAB and Fans’ Forum to agree reforms that will allow each Season Ticket holder to choose the option that works best for them. We believe this new offer provides flexibility and fairness for both our Season Ticket holders and Official Members.”

  23. even the hertz can do it.

    ————

    What is Ticket Exchange?

Ticket Exchange, Hearts FC explains, is the Club’s official online resale platform which gives their Season Ticket Holders the ability to sell their designated seat at face value for any Premiership home fixture they are unable to attend.

If a Hearts Season Ticket holder sells their seat via Ticket Exchange they will receive 50% of the value as credit to their account. This credit can only be redeemed against next season’s Season Ticket. Hearts supporters will only receive credit if their seat is sold; if it is listed but remains unsold no credit will be added to their account. Season ticket holders will also have the option at the end of the season to waive or donate your credit, more details on this will be shared at renewal time. Any category of ticket can be listed, but all will be sold at Adult ticket prices on the Ticket Exchange Platform.

As soon as a match sells out Hearts will turn on the Ticket Exchange functionality and make their Season Ticket Holders aware across official club channels. Once Ticket Exchange is activated seats will continually become available across the stadium on Ticket Exchange right up until matchday with Season Ticket Holders able to list their seat up until four hours before kick-off. Tickets purchased via Ticket Exchange are strictly non-transferable and non-refundable. If at the end of the season an account has more credit than the value of your season ticket renewal the surplus credit will be forfeited and is non-refundable. No cash alternative is available.

  24. as an aside – Hearts eticketing and seat booking system is really good and much better than celtics in look and navigation.

  25. Put all the kids for Champions League game in the 2 ends of the restricted ends of the main stand £10 for each child and 7£ for a McDonalds at halftime £17 a good deal

Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce that it has today approved significant investment into a state-of-the-art re-development of Celtic’s Barrowfield Training Centre, in the heart of the East End of Glasgow, as we aim to continue to create Celtic’s stars of the future.

The development will deliver a fantastic new complex, hosting Celtic’s boys’ and girls’ Academies and will also be the new dedicated training centre for Celtic FC Women’s First Team.

Today’s announcement re-emphasises our strategy of maintaining a strong commitment to both developing our own players and investing in women’s football, with the project representing the largest infrastructure investment by the Club since the redevelopment of Celtic Park in the late 1990s.

The new training centre will feature:

New indoor arena, featuring full-sized IFA-approved artificial surface

Combination of outdoor natural grass and artificial pitches

    State-of-the-art gym/fitness facilities

Celtic Academy and Celtic FC Women office areas

    New changing facilities

    Medical suites for player treatment/rehab

    Sports science centre

    Analysis centre

    Classroom/learning facilities

Celtic Chairman Peter Lawwell said: “We are delighted to agree this commitment and we are certain it will be an important and positive investment in the Club’s future.

“During the Club’s illustrious history, so many young players have come through Celtic Football Club’s own development system to grace the first-team and through the new centre, with greatly improved facilities, we aim for even more success in this area.

“While there were opportunities to develop elsewhere, Celtic was born and has been raised in the East End of the City and it is right that we maintain this presence in the local community, in a place where so many Celtic Legends have been made.”

Celtic’s Academy continues to be hugely important to the Club. Our current first-team features stars such as Captain Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Anthony Ralston, Stephen Welsh and Mikey Johnston who have all come through the Celtic Academy system.

Previously, Academy players such as Kieran Tierney, Aiden McGeady, Stephen McManus and Shaun Maloney have all made a fantastic contribution to Celtic’s first team.

Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers said: “Today’s announcement is very significant news for the Club and will give our young players, boys and girls every opportunity to develop further.

“I know the Club always aims to be the best in everything it does and the new centre demonstrates Celtic’s real commitment to this area.

“Ultimately, the aim of our Academy is to develop first-team players who reach first-team level and I know these great new facilities can support this objective very positively.

‘I am sure the new complex will be welcomed by our coaches and young players and of course, our women’s first-team, giving them all every opportunity to grow and improve in all areas of their work.’

“Some of our greatest Celtic heroes have taken the journey from Barrowfield to Celtic Park and we hope our new centre will assist many more in doing the same.”

Celtic FC Women’s team is also going from strength to strength, with the team currently Scottish cup holders and only narrowly missing out on League success last season.

In May this year, Celtic Park hosted a record attendance for a women’s match in Scotland with 15,822 fans watching Celtic Women in League action.

Players such as Chloe Craig and Maria McAneny have already come through the Club’s Academy system to grace the current first team.

Celtic Women’s Team Manager Fran Alonso said: “I am very excited about the Barrowfield development plans, I believe this new facility can be huge for the women’s team and a real game changer.

“The facility will allow for all-weather training with the best of resources and will provide the first team and the girls’ Academy with a great new dedicated base where we can develop further.

“I know the team continues to inspire so many young girls through their play and their achievements and we now want to do all we can to reach for higher levels.

“We have enjoyed some real success in the last few years and we are all committed to taking this team even further – the new facilities which the Club are developing will be crucial in achieving this.”

    barrowfield gym.png

The Barrowfield site has produced so many great Celtic teams of the past with the best of them all The Lisbon Lions training here for many years.

Billy McNeill, Davie Hay, Tommy Burns, Wim Jansen, Martin O’Neill and Gordon Strachan have all created great trophy-winning sides at Barrowfield in subsequent years.

Final planning details for the new Centre will be confirmed very soon and it is hoped that work will begin on site shortly, with the project taking around 12-15 months to complete.

Celtic’s Lennoxtown Training Centre, which opened in 2007, will continue to be the dedicated headquarters for our men’s first-team football operations, including the Celtic FC B team.

Further improvements are also currently being made at our Lennoxtown Training Centre, with first-team changing areas being fully refurbished and extended, the introduction of a new medical/treatment, sports science space and staff offices, and the extension and refurbishment of B Team areas.

Celtic Chief Executive Michael Nicholson said: “We are proud to commit to this significant new development and we are sure it will be one which will deliver great benefit to the Club for many years to come.

“Supporting the development of young players and investing in women’s football are two key elements of the Club’s strategy and the new training centre will be hugely important in supporting our objectives in these areas.

“Some of the Club’s greatest ever players have been trained and developed through its Academy system and we hope that many more young players will follow in their footsteps, benefitting from this new facility, with the ultimate aim of reaching Celtic’s first teams.

“It was also very important for us to provide our Women’s first team with a high quality, dedicated training centre, to allow the team to build on the great success they have been enjoying.”

  27. I get a wee bit of sick coming up in my mouth anytime Ange is on and talks about Spurs the exact same way he talked about us.

  28. Barrowfield training centre already has 1 full side plastic pitch, 2 full size grass pitches and 1 9 a side pitch. They are making a number of upgrades including an indoor full size pitch, gym, changing room and parking spaces. Will also ha e security cameras and new fences etc. The idea that the new additions will cost 20 million is laughable. 5 million max.
