Motherwell travel to Celtic Park tomorrow on a mission. A win would see them draw level with Celtic, and after a physically and mentally draining Champions League midweek game, they will fancy their chances. Inverness remain top of the league on goal difference, but this is the third consecutive season Motherwell have tucked in below Celtic. They will not finish above Celtic, of course, but this is likely to be our toughest test of the season.
As well as the result, there should be other objectives from tomorrow’s game. We are eight games into our European campaign but our two most expensive summer signings, Teemu Pukki and Derk Boerrigter, and still to settle into the team. Both should start against Motherwell.
For reasons you know too well, I thought it would be a good idea to do the Great Scottish Run on Sunday in aid of 1254125. I have (just) setup a Mydonate page, if you have been unable to participate in any event so far, you can do so online now.
Many thanks for your support.

Something strange I noticed watching the game on Celtic TV.
Adam went down just behind the goal line and was in obvious pain. The trainer immediately signalled to the bench that his game was over as he motioned for a stretcher. After a couple of minutes during which time his shoulder was strapped up, Adam was lifted onto the stretcher. As he was shown being carried round towards the south stand, a ground camera showed Neil Lennon signalling towards the subs behind the goal and James Forrest then ran towards the bench.
The game then continued and for almost 3 minutes, during which Celtic were a man down, until eventually Forrest was introduced as Adam’s replacement.
My question is, at which point did Neil Lennon realise that a substitution was required? Why did he wait until Matthews was being carried towards the corner flag before waving for James Forrest to get back to the bench?
Ok, no harm came from it, but that is hardly the point. Forrest should have been on the pitch 2 or 3 minutes earlier.
It’s no big deal obviously, but I just thought it quite bizarre at the time.
Morning all.
Best wishes and good luck to all those running today.
I am up and off out to my daughter’s gymnastics competition…. after less than 5 hours sleep!
Still can’t believe the news about St John Doyle…… I honestly woke up this morning hoping that I had dreamt that news last night.
Stunned.
Tom McG, do we have any idea of the extent of the injury to Adam Matthews?
Also, thanks for the assist in putting me in touch with midfield maestro last week, a very round about route to securing a ticket for the AC Milan game. My buddy is chuffed to bits he,s going to be there.
Hail Hail
P.S. good luck to all those running today.
Rest in Peace St John Doyle. Condolences and thoughts with your family and friends.
Tom,
My recollection was that all the subs jumped to their feet and ran down behind the goal to finish warming up when Adam got hit. A sub has to be fully prepared before going on or risk being injured themselves. That takes time.
Top of the morning to you all from a damp and breezy Fife.
As I said last evening, I didn’t know George and never met him but the depth of feeling and number of tributes to him he must have been quite a man.
This e-mail from the Celtic Trust this morning:
Dear Member
it is with deep regret and shock that we heard of the sudden death of Councillor George Ryan RIP earlier this evening. George was a very well respected and hard working Councillor who represented the people of Shettleston Ward on Glasgow City Council for many years. He was also a longstanding member of the Celtic Trust and he has given us great support and valuable advice on many occasions.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
We extend our deepest sympathy to George’s wife Linda and his family at this sad time. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.
Yours sincerely
Marie

Saddened and shocked at the news regarding George.
RIP big man..
Good Luck to all running in the Great Scottish Run today.
Watch for me on the telly.
Ah such sad news about George Ryan (St John Doyle). My thoughts are with his family and friends. Didn’t know him personally but conversed with him a few times on CQN – he loved Paddy, so was a fellow football romantic! Moreover, all the accounts of him here and elsewhere mark him out as one of life’s true good guys.
RIP
Oh, and if you’re running, eat porridge for breakfast, should have said that last night.
Very sad news about St John Doyle.
RIP

Condolences to the family and friends of St John Doyle, going by the tributes paid to him he will be a big loss to our family.

Very sad news about St John Doyle’s untimely passing.
Rest In Peace
Good luck to all the cqnrs running in Glasgow today.
The Daily Retard informs that 2 West of Scotland businessmen have been fined £2000 each and ordered to pay compensation of £1000 to WH Smith for letting off smoke bombs in 2 of their branches in Glasgow as part of a “campaign”.
Interestingly but not surprisingly the rag does not go on to explain what this campaign was about, and indeed appears to accept the defending QC’s explanation that they were merely acting like idiots.
These incidents occurred in 2012 so would I be correct in assuming that these potentially life threatening acts of vandalism were linked to the demise of the oldco and that the Retard is deliberately withholding this informaton from the public?
The fact that one of the accused is a qualified accountant should tell you all you need to know about the quality of the sevconian, when even the educated ones behave like animals.

Re adams substitution : 11 minutes on the clock when physio signals for stretcher. Subs must still have been warmed up from pre match.
Good luck to the runners today. .. just saw a pic of paul 67 and NFL …. who will finish fastest ??????
God bless st john doyle …. the cqn heaven has some amazing souls looking down on us
So that’s Stokes, Ledley + Sammi all likely to leave the club at the seasons end. Hence the reason Lenny wants signings in January.

Regarding players contracts. If Stokes wants to go then fine. Need to keep Sammi.
Rodney Marsh on BT yesterday said that American footballers are to sue for head injuries
Received during matches for one billion dollars.
This includes heading the ball
Wow

Ten Men Won The League. It is strange that those 3 players have not been given new contracts as yet or could it be they are working there way out of the door.I assume if they become free agents they will be looking for a big signing on fee from any new club in todays footballing world it is the players who hold the balance of power in my opinion. H.H.
Shocked to hear the news about George Ryan (St John Doyle). Spent time in his company on a few occasions and always found him to be knowledgeable and respectful in debate on either politics or football. Thoughts with his family and friends.
5 goals in 6 games for callum McGregor at notts county. His 2 yesterday were class. Good to see one of our loaned out players doing well. Hope he maintains that form and can come back to us as a player who can do a job in the first team.

Sally says here on October the 4th http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24395665
“There was a contract put down which I can tell you in all honesty was not negotiated at all”
Sally says here on October the 6th http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/spfl-lower-divisions/mccoist-will-return-to-full-pay-if-rangers-rejoin-elite-1-3128381
“When we signed our contracts, they were effectively put down in front of us by Martin Bain. I can also tell you, hand on heart, there was very little discussion or negotiation”
—
So Sally says there was negotiation although it was just a wee bit on his super sally salary of 850 grand
In all honesty hand on heart Sally is big fibber
Mac……..
Kismet!
Thimdomebhoy – Sally’s reports of the contract negotiations reminds me of Seth Johnson signing for Leeds Utd in 2001, and how smoothly the wage negotiations went. Wiki states –
There’s the famous myth that Johnson and his agent walked into the Leeds boardroom hoping for a contract of £15,000, only to be immediately offered one at £30,000. As jaws dropped in shock round the table, Ridsdale turned round and said ‘Oh, alright then £35,000′
Good Morning Timland.
Sad to hear of the passing of St John Doyle thoughts
and prayers with his family and friends.
St.John Doyle
A Labour councillor has called for an inquiry into policing at a unauthorised march by the Green Brigade group of Celtic fans in Glasgow at the weekend.
George Ryan said tactics used by the Strathclyde force, at the gathering in the city’s Gallowgate area, were “totally disproportionate”.
It said almost 200 officers were needed to deal with a “confrontational and aggressive crowd” with 13 arrests made.
The arrests were for alleged public order offences during the incident.
Prior to the march, the Green Brigade had posted on its website that it would be holding a “corteo to Celtic Park to raise awareness and show support for the growing list of Celtic supporters receiving and facing bans” from both the Scottish Premier League football club and the procurator fiscal.
Strathclyde Police deployed almost 200 officers, including mounted officers, to the gathering, outside the Chrystal Bell pub in Gallowgate.
I have real and genuine concerns about criminality but surely there are other crimes more worthy of such police resources”
Councillor George Ryan
Mr Ryan, who represents Glasgow’s Shettleston ward, said he had written to First Minister Alex Salmond asking for an inquiry into how Strathclyde Police had handled the incident.
He told BBC Scotland that the police presence was “over-the-top” for what appeared to be a “relatively peaceful gathering”.
He also criticised the police for using a tactic known as “kettling” to surround people at the protest.
Mr Ryan said this was “not acceptable” and “totally disproportionate”.
Thoughts and prayers to all friends and his family R.I.P George Ryan you may not have known him, but he knew us
Thoughts and prayers with the friends and family of St. John Doyle.
I never met him but we discovered we had mutual friends thanks to the blog.
Shocked.
RIP George.

Indeed sir although Sallys salary will probably not get a mention on Wiki !
Sally has quite simply lied about any negotiations if the 2 press quotes are to be believed
It seems Sally has dug a hole for himself and is now sneaking his way back out.
I do expect some observant hack will question the obvious conflict in those 2 quotes.
In case anyone missed it, there’s a new post up.
The great scottish run coming on now bbc2 good luck to them all hh
