Title defence tested from the off

318

Aberdeen played three friendlies, scoring 10 and conceding a goal in each, before their four League Cup group games this month. They scored 12 without conceding in them.

Celtic Park on Sunday will be a whole different challenge, but as we remember from even recent times, getting the job done against lower league teams is seldom straightforward.

There have been more false dawns at Pittodrie over the last 30 years than sunny dawns, so we cannot expect too much from Jim Goodwin. Still, his team is close to full fitness, paying well, confident and will head to Celtic Park on Sunday as ready as they could hope to be.

The title defence will be tested from the off.

The woman is an attention-seeking idiot.

I would say its Starmer who’s the attention seeking idiot!.

And as for the ‘you touched my breast’, i hope that wasn’t stereotyping a working class wummin saying what she feels, she was being harrassed by some minder of sorts who had no right to try and physically remove her. Why did Starmer not reply….did he not know what he was getting into going to a local cafe or whatever, was that his man of the people moment?.

I had several Pints with some of the Bhoys last Friday, and I am STILL ” Suffering” from it…NOT with any hangover as i wasnt drunk, but I cant STOP Peeing for days after having several beers.

maybe if I put those PINTS of Beer into HALF PINT Glasses it would solve the peeing problem ?

Maybe Starmer was waiting for her to finish talking before answering. She never stopped.

As for me stereotyping a working class woman, it was she who said, “You tuched my breast.” I didn’t make it up.

If Starmer was a Merseyside MP I could see her point about interviews with the Sun, but he isn’t. As leader of the opposition he can’t simply boycott a national newspaper without a valid reason.

I’m no fan of Starmer, but this woman was just looking for her 5 minutes of fame.

I`m with Tom on this one. I thought the woman liked the sound of her own voice. Also, I thought Starmer was waiting for her to finish before replying. He was going to have a long wait.

For all I know, she is a fine person who got carried away a bit but I thought she very much liked the sound of her own voice.

PS I am no fan of Starmer.

    Ross Co league cup draw

The issue is we are at tannadice on the Sunday so the Tuesday would not work for us to play.

The only solution would be to play at dingwall the previous Wednesday. No reason not to do that.

    ===================================

    GENE @ 7:42 AM

Burnley 78 – surely the reason we want a squad with strength in depth is to cope with the amount of fixtures. I think we have 2 decent players for every position ,- just get on with it.

    ===================================

I have no issue with us playing on the Wed as scheduled. As Gene says, we want a squad with strength in depth. I only hope Ange utilises the squad that midweek.

Ross Co in league cup = low priority

Sevco in league = highest priority

  16. Political viewpoint — Progressive / Collectivist / Constructivist …

    Progressive — see above.

Constructivist — pebble in the pond time / Glesga and its hotel market — the P/head angle.

Plans for a hotel at P/head seem to have gone very cold.

We had some drawings and the start of a planning application but all now very quiet.

Comments were made about Glesga being saturated with hotels.

Comments were also made about the lack of demand in the East End.

Glesga market — would not appear to be saturated as quite a few developers and operators are working on plans for new hotels in the city. These plans include new concepts from existing operators who are willing to use Glesga to test the market for new brands / offerings.

Non trad locations in the city:

The SECC had one hotel for nearly two decades and now the place is hoaching with them.

Clyde Street / SoSE — South of St Enochs — was a bit of a waste land now it is hotel central. Therefore with the draw of the stadium / the Emirates / Tollcross swimming pool / The Forge — to say that we will never be a good location is using old thinking to stifle new development.

The Merchant City was a dump in living memory.

The Gorbals was a world class neo slum 30 years ago.

Townhead did not see sunshine for generations.

Cities change — we need the board to get their erse into gear and make the most of the site to take the club forward.

    MadMitch,

    Your thoughts on Stephen Welsh?

    Ange obviously sees something?

    ============================

    Petec

Perhaps Ange simply sees Stephen Welsh as our (current) 4th choice centre half. Nothing more, nothing less.

With Starfelt injured, and Jenz just in the door, Welsh is currently partnering CCV.

Whether Welsh keeps his starting place, or Ange brings in Jenz, time will tell. I’m guessing Ange will decide once he’s assessed both in training.

  18. PC @ 9.30

SW — I think that we have a player with him.

He needs regular football to make progress.

When he came in after weeks on the bench he was poor.

He had regressed and was not even the player of 12 months before.

Consequently needs a lot of work — very much worth the effort.

He is a player in the mould of CCV — he could learn a lot from him.

Probably two years off being a starter for us.

However CCV and CS are at the moment one level below the CB’s we need to match the rest of the team so that makes things very complicated.

CCV — not worth the £6mill plus we have invested in him.

CS — not worth the £4.5mill we paid for him.

However we need a working defence and after last season they are both low risk / known quantities. SW with work and a fair wind will catch them up.

    Pre-season:

CCV = looks a bit rusty.

SW = very raw but gaining confidence.

BL = joints need oiled / needs to find his first team attitude.

CJ = waiting on his taxi.

MJe = very much worth a look / might end up the most accomplished of them all.

The bigger picture shows that we need work at CB right through the club — the 17yr old from WHU seems to have been bought to stiffen up the U18’s and put a rocket up the erse of the B team players.

The B team seems to be an AP work in progress — new coaches — at the moment after a year of stagnation last season so things would appear to be moving forward.

  20. I wonder how many CH’s Ange would like in his first team squad. 4 or 5?

Carter-Vickers, Starfelt, Jenz, Welsh & Jullien make 5 currently. Was Jenz brought in on the basis that we expect to let Jullien go, and we then stick with 4 CH’s?

Or, will Ange replace any further leavers, to maintain 5 CH’s?

    Time will tell, I guess.

  22. I think Stephen Welsh is underrated, just like Ralston & Taylor were, if there was a ki or an ov at the end of their names they would have been appreciated more.

Welsh has shown up well in preseason, was in my thoughts for the Jobo 3 albeit I didn’t include him.

There will be a lot tougher assignments ahead but I would have no fear of having Stephen Welsh at CH.

I accept at the moment he is probably ranked 4th choice but that can change if he gets a run of games & does well.

  23. CMG @ 10.11

    First team squad = 26 players — incl 3 GK’s — rather than the 28 / 30 of old?

Probably looking at 4 specialised CB’s plus a utility player / defender who can play the position?

I would hope that the B team would be of a standard where one of their number could move up without comment / support heart attacks.

Last season’s B team were not up for it.

Hopefully things will improve this season.
