Tom, Davie, Development Squad face Valencia

Good luck to the Development Squad for their Uefa Youth League one-off cup tie against Valencia this evening. A win would see Celtic proceed to the quarter final – no mean feat when you consider the way some bigger league clubs harvest scores of youth players from across the globe.

Kick-off is 5pm, if you can get to Celtic Park. It’s not THE Champions League, but it’s an important metric we should follow.

Delighted Davie Hay and Tom Boyd are  Celtic Ambassadors. I see enough of what the Celtic support to here to know the value of the club, but we can never take these values for granted. The Celtic Movement needs leaders. Davie and Tom have been informal ambassadors of the club for years, as many of you can testi

But just shouting out slogans and headlines is no good and does nothing except ‘muddy the water’

Some people will believe anything, just because it suits their agenda – I’m sure that some of our discontented ‘friends’ and ‘headline-readers’ did actually believe that hamsters were an important part of Freddie Starrs diet – actually they only provided extra protein prior to performances.

Celtic Plc have a line of credit of 10m with co op bank. It’s put into the account as available cash flow to enable a “going concern ” to be proved

It’s not been used as net debt is in the hundreds of thousands

It will be used to make up for the coming CL shambles as this time no family silver to sell

Stop talking about EPL as our Compitition is against European teams with a much lower income than us

Your European stats should show last 4 years when the vic moneyball started. After that we have wasted money on looking for golden nuggets to be sold to EPL. A flawed policy as we can’t compete now against lower clubs in Europe

Our squad is massive compared to our euro rivals hence our wages bill is higher

On to another Cl shambles at lost income again. So don’t worry the credit line will be used soon

I actually believe that there are some among us, maybe even members of the Truss, who secretly envy the turmoil down Ibrox way and would like a piece of that kind of action for themselves.

You know the ones I mean – they usually start off with “I have been reliably told” and follow it up with some fantastic lie that justifies their stance.

Of course in days past they would ‘huddle’ together in their local and construct their fantasies over a pint – we in the ‘real world’ would be none the wiser, thank God. But now technology has given them a platform and don’t they use it.

We all know that empty barrels (or maybe nowadays wheelie bins) make the most noise, however ask for cold hard facts and they ‘run a mile’

I have no problem with the talk of the steamie having indulged in it myself over a pint or three.

Splinter pressure groups concern me,however which attempt selfishly to impose their particular view of life onto Celtic with no regard for the feelings and attitudes of their fellow supporters who may have a different viewpoint.

In particular, the weekly upside down banners directed at John Reid for the role he played in the Gulf war and which may have resulted in his departure.

I think he could have been particularly useful to Celtic and our interests these days.

Sorry my friend but it is you who are wrong.

There has been some confusion over Celtic’s reported debt figures, as the accounts refer to a debt facility with the Co-operative Bank of £32.4 million, made up of £20.4 million long-term loans and a £12 million overdraft. This facility is secured against property including Lennoxtown.

In 2015 Annual Report Celtic had no overdraft and Bank debt of £6.85 million. Almost £4 million of total debt was repaid over the year.

Please read the Annual Report 2015 for actual figures on all operations.

    ———————————————————————————————————————————————————

My “narrative is based on properly audited figures contained in Annual Reports.

Season tickets are bought en masse for all home games in a season and you are right these amount to 46,000 – however, for accounting purposes the income is spread over the ‘paid for’ games in any season – so if 46,000 are purchased then 46,000 have paid to see that any particular match – it’s not deceit, nor rocket science – it’s proper accounting practices.

If there are ‘pay on the day’ customers – they are added to that season ticket figure.

  24. Specifically, the club’s “core business strategy… relies upon: the youth academy; player development; player recruitment; management of the player pool; and sports science and performance analysis; to deliver long term sustainable football success.” In short, the club will stand or fall on how successful it is in buying players (relatively cheaply) and/or developing its youngsters.

Of course, these figures might provoke the question of why the club does not put more of its profits on the pitch, but these surpluses are largely driven by two factors: (a) player sales; and (b) money from competing in Europe, especially the Champions League.

As Lawwell said, “Player transfers have been an increasingly important element of our business for a number of years.” He recently confirmed the value of this activity, “Significant income was brought into the club as a consequence of transfer fees received.”

Worrying that two main strands of success we have relied on have stalled

As a business Celtic are going to find it much harder to get the missing fans back to Celtic park than it was to lose them in the first place. Any business which wishes to prosper must look after its existing customers while also finding new ones . Celtic are in the entertainment business but many fans feel that they fail to entertain and this needs to be addressed.I do believe mind you with the Rangers in the SPL next season Celtic may well maintain there current season ticket sales but there is also the unknown affect of the Celtic fans who will stop supporting football in Scotland altogether as they have no wish to support a corrupt game.
