Training Revision Loop urgently required

150

If concerns are realised and Liel Abada’s injury, sustained on international duty with Israel, results in him missing five months of the season, it will be a huge blow to Celtic, as well as the player.  Liel was an instant hit when he arrived in Glasgow two years ago as a 19-year-old.  His goals and assists since were a big part of Ange Postecoglou’s success story.

Although a winger, it is inside the box where his talents are exceptional.  He finds space and can finish at elite level.  We can only hope for better news.

Sport science is about getting players fitter, stronger and avoiding injuries.  Our athletes are charged with achieving progress on the fitter and stronger categories, while hopefully not becoming more prone to injury.  There are no hard or clear rules on how to achieve this.  Without intensive training, footballers will not get near the Celtic first team, but with Carter-Vickers, Nawrocki, Welsh, Hatate and Abada all picking up injuries since the start of the season (and others preseason), we need an urgent revision loop.

  1. The logic of your statement Bournesouprecipe is that Portugal’s league is way better than ours. Jota and our new bhoy can’t get a game over there but walk into our first team. Sobering I’d say except I’m never drunk. TBH I was never convinced Jota would get a transfer to a top EPL team and I never imagined Ange would take him to Spurs. My mind still boggles at the Saudi deal. I definitely wish him real success though. So many ex-Celtic players who were top performers in the SPFL turn out quite average in stronger leagues and end up sitting on the bench. Ajer seems to be the latest. Who have Celtic really developed into a top class player? VVD, Henrik, Wanayama, Frimpong etc didn’t need special coaching, just regular games in Scotland and Europe in a decent team and they developed themselves as it where. I might be wrong.

The adult jilted lovers Jota left behind came as a surprise to most Celtic supporters, and he’s not even popular where he went, never mind not at a top league. £30M euros was just silly Saudi money IMO.

I give you Kenny Dalglish as an example? and he waited till he was 26 and fully developed before he went away to win the European Cup.

You could easily argue very, very few go on to stardom and needn’t look far for a

    Kieran or two.

All the players you mentioned developed at Celtic by playing in front of 60,000 every 2nd week, dealing with the expectation of winning, every game! Big derby games v the currant buns, playing in cup finals, playing in the Champions League, oh we developed them alright :)) por cierto

  4. TET,

Good luck with your battle with John Barleycorn. He’s a tough opponent, but you are no slouch yourself.

We are all in your corner, at the other end of a keyboard.

  5. Ideal opportunity for Vata to prove,he’s worth the new contract he’s looking for, do your talking on the pitch.

  6. According to Brendan Liel’s injury happened at the end of training, with the player continuing to shoot the ball. Paul keeps talking about “intensive training” which could mean just about any type of exercise. Lets just say it is on the pitch, lots of movement, running, stop start etc to the point of, if not exhaustion, then at least to the point of needing rest, recovery, unwinding etc.

The last thing you should do is shooting practice. Sports Science? Do me a favour.

  7. BADA:

    RE Vata

Another site spoke of giving him a game at the week-end and then he plays a blinder, which only opens the door for other clubs to see his potential. Unless he signs the deal that’s in front of him, he won’t be playing only to showcase his talents to other interested parties. por cierto

  8. PC- I get what you’re saying, a lot of interest and hype around Vata,a carrot and stick scenario, go and prove you’re worth of a first team place, then we can look at a better contract HH

If my news is up to date, then Liel Abada is having a scan in London, which hopefully will give us more accurate information re the actual injury, maybe even the actual thigh muscle he has injured, (or pinched) and to what extent. After which maybe a more accurate idea of how long Liel will be out. Here’s hoping.

I truly believe that he has the potential to be a superstar and he will eventually go for a Celtic record transfer fee.

Absolutely gutted that he is possibly out for five months as I thought the CL was the perfect opportunity for Liel to demonstrate his potential.

Celtic are thrilled to announce the signing of Australian defender Liam Bonetig, who will join the club’s Academy after putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.

The central defender will join up with Stephen McManus and Darren O’Dea’s B Team squad for the season ahead.

Alongside domestic fixtures in the Lowland League, the 18-year-old will also continue to further his development with the Hoops, playing in competitions such as the UEFA Youth League and Premier League International Cup.

Starting his career in his homeland, Bonetig was most recently part of the Academy set up at Western Sydney Wanderers before making the move to Glasgow.

The youngster has also picked up valuable international experience, after he was part of the Australian Schoolboys’ football team which toured the UK and Ireland.

During that trip, Bonetig was named the Player of the Tour after a number of impressive performances whilst representing his country.

Reacting to signing for the club, Bonetig said: It’s an amazing feeling to have signed.

It’s such a huge club and I couldn’t believe it when Celtic were interested. So I am just glad to get it done.

‘I couldn’t really describe what it felt like when I first heard of Celtic’s interest. It’s some feeling.’

“The boys told me it’s a great time to come to the club with some big games coming up. So playing and travelling to those is going to be some experience.

“Since I have been here, the coaches and players have been great to me. They have been really welcoming and made my time very easy at the moment.

“Now, I am just really excited to get going.”

    Welcome to the Hoops Liam!
