UnCommons Moneyball gem

857

Someone made the point to me over the weekend, 30 goals, and counting, from midfield, rivals 53 from Henrik Larsson as a central striker.  It is an unnecessary burden to compare Kris Commons to Celtic’s greatest player in four decades, even Henrik couldn’t compare to the memory of Henrik, but the history books will show for decades to come, Kris Commons is a rare gem, a Celtic player for the ages.

He’s the definition of a Moneyball player, he’s a great multiple Player of the Year and he’s ours.

Enjoy watching him.

Hello there , taking a punt here….but am heading to the Marriot near Denia tomorrow till Friday. To be honest I thought ( was told ) it was in Valencia? Just saw your name and thought you may be a resident?

It`s a business trip , with only one night (Wednesday) as free time, is it worth heading into Denia? If so ,any steers for a good tapas bar?

Aw Naw. We are a football club not a bank why would we want to sell Commons ? we need to sit down with the player and get him signed up on a new contract. H.H.

I’d have Hooper back. I was sorry to see him go.

Not sure he’s been a failure at Norwich considering he is behind a £10m striker when it comes to selection, although Hooper has scored more goals.

He would have no trouble settling in at Celtic Park, as he knows the club, and he has scored at every level. Not sure it will happen though.

you may recall my telling the tale of my daughter in law (Julie) playing a great april fool prank on Charles (son) ? ..briefly she put the pregnancy test stick that was positive two+ years ago on top of the cistern on the night of the 31st of march for Charles to see as he got ready for work the next morning, at the time it slightly backfired because Charles overslept and although he did see the stick he had no time to react and consequently rushed out to work. only after a long worrying morning Julie phoned him and it was established that he had been suckered into an april fool !!!! however it has now come back to bite her on the arse(good word eh paul?) grampa charliebhoy come October ….the line continues

I’ve one wee observation to make, though I’m no architect, rather than have those blinding halogens above the stadium blinding you as you approach, surely up-lights, show-casing the stadium’s façade would have been more an awe.

Seems to be a big thing at the moment re Wallace’s bonus, while the players and managers haven’t got one (I guess that’s what happens when you don’t read your contract!).

Are they trying to push Wallace out?

Surely the same principles apply as to the sales of Ki, Aiden, Gary, Fraser, Victor etc

or maybe even like Sammi and get another year out of him before we offer him a reduced pay offer that he will not accept ? I love it when PL plays hardball as we save so much money and it improves his reputation.

I think Celtic will be trying harder than they did with Sammi to find someone who will take us of our hands. I think we can get as much as a 300% return on him. He has asked for a pay rise above the rate of inflation like Sammi did and this summer will be a lost opportunity if we do not get a return on him.

Its also important to consider our C.E.O susceptibility to stomach ulcers. How much did we lose on Sammi. It wont be allowed to happen again.

Kris Commons will be playing in England next season no matter how much Lisa loves it here and how settled his kids in school are.

    :-)

    …but where’s the scalextric track?

  14. Kris is one of my favourite players at the club. You don’t have to enjoy lightning pace for some positions.

I would love to see him play the Pirlo role. He has great vision , terrific control and an excellent range of passing.

One area for improvement is that he often starts games slowly. The counter though is he finishes them like an express train

  15. SuperSutton on

And yet the galoots behind me in the North Stand wanted Kris replaced after 5 minutes. And repeated their belief every 5 minutes from then on. I’m sure they also didn’t like McGeady.

Anyway, after each of his goals I did shout “get him aff, he’s rubbish”. The silence from behind was eerie.

I remember as a kid when my old man used to park about half a mile from the stadium, when we got out of the car as soon as you saw the floodlights it gripped and squeezed your heart. Those lights have gone now and with them that one wee moment in your life where the lux contrasted by the black sky beyond made your heart miss a beat and inside you knew you were going home.

Rather than halogens blinding you as you approach Paradise, laser up-lights on the roof of the stadium might just replicate that ineffable feeling that kids of the 60’s/70’s loved.

  19. paolosboots FC before PLC on

Steph Bhoy, good analysis of our resources, you mentioned an attacking midfield player required & maybe striker would we see a double swoop on Norwich for Snodgrass & Hooper? that way we immediately strengthen midfield & forward line with 2 players who know the club & will hit the ground running. Might be a shrewd move with CL qualifiers & Hooper is unlikely to enjoy the Championship & his gamble for the World Cup didn’t pay off. His 8 goals so far have been disappointing but he is behind Van Wolfswinkel who cost £8.5m. Snodgrass I would potentially see as a future Celtic captain.

He may appreciate what he had at celtic & i’m sure £8/9m would buy both & would see us take the qualifiers more seriously & in better fettle than last years.

Looking forward to the Hootenanny & meeting some old & new faces.

  20. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Awe Naw. We will just have to wait and see but I can see no point in building up a huge bank balance at Celtic while weakening the team.If that was to be the case in my opinion Lennie would walk as it appears his motivation is to improve the team to do better in the CL.H.H.

I won’t argue with much of what you say, but I can’t see Darnel Fisher going anywhere unless it is what he wants.

Mikel and Adam obviously cover for each other, but both have a had a few injuries this season. We’d be taking a big risk if we don’t take that into account.

I think we need cover for Izzy. Not just fill-ins like Charlie or Adam, but a real left-back to give Izzy some competition, though I do think he’s had a very good season.

That may be Lenny’s ambition but he seems to get lumbered with players he does not fancy and loses players that he does. Very evident with regard team selection.

If we are talking moneyball then we dont need to improve the team.

If we were to win the SPL by less than 10 points next year and qualify for the CL then we can afford to sell sell sell.
