Vastly improved Celtic return to Ibrox

252

When we lost 1-0 at Ibrox earlier in the season play was focussed on Odsonne Edouard until he was replaced by Ismaila Soro (yes, really) and Kyogo moved into the central position for the final 23 minutes.  Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota had yet to join the club, we didn’t have a fit left back and two of the starting line-up knew they were on their last outing in green and white hoops.

Despite this, and playing before an exclusively home crowd, Celtic enjoyed 66% possession and Edouard missed a chance that he hoped Crystal Palace did not see.

Only four of those who started for Celtic are likely to do so again on Sunday: Hart, Starfelt, Juranovic and McGregor.  Beyond those who start, we have options on the bench who can change the game if necessary.  Last time, as well as Soro, Ange Postecoglou brought on Tom Rogic, who remains in contention, and Adam Montgomery.  Resources were chronically weak by comparison.

We will bring a new and vastly improved team to Ibrox, one that has overcome the points deficit we left the ground carrying in August and can effectively secure the second trophy of the season on Sunday.

None of this is conjecture.  Whatever the merits of Celtic as they dominated possession and lost in August, the scale of transformation since is beyond any of the hopes we had back then.  Recent form does not guarantee results, but we can draw confidence from it ahead of Sunday.

  1. For those that like a wee punt at the bookies, and fancy us to score on Sunday, there may be some value bets to be had. (Ladbrokes prices shown below)

Our penalty taker, Juranovic (surely he’ll be 1st choice) is priced up at a massive 25/1 to score the 1st goal (and 10/1 to score at anytime).

That puts him on the same odds as CCV, which is surely a mistake by Laddies.

By comparison, Tavpen is only 9/1 to score 1st, while Goldson is 28/1. Granted, Tav scores more from open play and free kicks than Juranovic, but being the penalty taker factors into the shorter price.

Imo, Ladbrokes have overlooked Juranovic as our potential pen taker (probably due to Giakomakis scoring our last pen).

The paranoia brigade may argue that Collum will surely award the Huns a penalty rather than us. There’s a reason both sets of fans distrust Collum. Both think he’s biased against them.

I believe Collum is simply a very incompetent ref, rather than biased. If we have a claim for a penalty, even a dubious one, it would not surprise me to see Collum award it to us.

With Lads offering a daily price boost, I’ve got Juranovic at 28/1 and 11/1 to score 1st or anytime respectively.

Another anomaly, imo, may be found in the price of CH’s to score the 1st goal.

Whilst Goldson (28/1), Helander (33/1), Balogun (33/1) and Carter-Vickers (25/1) are all similarly priced…Starfelt is a massive 80/1 to score the 1st goal (and 28/1 to score at anytime)!

Granted, CH’s are less likely to score the 1st goal than the forward players; but Starfelt should be similarly priced as the other CH’s imo.

I reckon Starfelt has as much chance to score the 1st goal as CCV; but their prices are 80/1 and 25/1. Big anomaly I reckon.

Anyway, again taking advantage of Laddies daily price boost offering, I’ve managed to bet Starfelt at 100/1 for 1st goal. Just for a cheeky wee punt.

  2. Interesting the angles some people will take so that they can throw a pebble into a pond — Ladies football seems to be the go to topic now that all the ambulance chasing lawyer stuff has gone a bit cold.

Good try — A+ for imagination — but well off the pace.

  3. Getting butterflies the noo so be shittin it come sunday.same first half as 3-0 game would be nice.Big Giamakis gonna score.their dangerman is Kent..he’l be in full dive mode..get JJ on him.Keep it calm and we’l pump them.

Morelos has zero chance of playing on Sunday.

Just seen the photos of him on crutches at the airport (apparently flying to London). I’ll believe it when the teams come out but it does indeed look like the huffy one will not make it for them.

  6. Huns have pulled out of Oz trip.

They have “terminated the contract with immediate effect”.

Looks like their solicitor is getting another floor put on their house.

  7. Rangers will not be participating in the Sydney Super Cup in November meaning the first Old Firm to be played outside of Scotland will not go ahead.

The Ibrox side’s withdrawal came after concerns were raised with organisers and has resulted in the club’s agreement being terminated.

Sky Sports News understands Rangers’ issues centred around the timing of the announcement of the tournament plus the understood failure to use the “Old Firm” brand.

  8. I’m assuming the huns issues regarding the timing of the announcement is because they wanted it announced after season tickets had been renewed ?

  9. On the subject of women and sport, Over the years I always thought there were a number of sports where there should be no need to have male/female categories in competition. The obvious ones are the likes of darts, pool, snooker, ice curling and shooting. Scrap women only events and let everyone compete equally (for the glory and the money) where there is no advantage based on biology.

  10. Sydney can now enjoy a festival of football played out in a friendly atmosphere. Brilliant for the OzTims.

Drew67 get yersell down to the Shipbank the morra. Your nerves will gone after a session of large amounts of alcohol and jibbar jabber about the footy.

  12. There is no way the organisers agreed to promote the ‘old firm’ because as we know, we have a copyright – they could not agree to something outside their control.

The huns I suspect are playing silly Billy’s. I hope they’re taken to the cleaners by the organisers.

  13. The people of Sydney can relax.

Their property and environment is safe.

  15. Brilliant news the orcs have pulled out Oz trip.

Hope they get sued again or maybe the glib and shameless liar will pay their costs. 🤣🤣🤣

  16. Now over to our incompetent board to tell The Rangers they are not getting any tickets for paradise.

That would go down a storm. If we get fined by the league take the fine and pay it. It will be less than the damage the orcs will cause.

  21. Looks like the rebels have won over Govan way. Their board don’t want angry bears filling into the big hoose on Sunday morning, even before a ball is kicked. Let’s make them very angry indeed by two o’clock.

Suppose they could always play Linfield home & away to fill a couple of weekends in November. If their lights are still on by then.

I would argue that they are games rather than sport. My rules are; if you don’t get out of breath, can wear trousers (or jumpers), and bevvy while playing – it ain’t a sport.😎

  23. This whole Australia thing has worked out lovely. Maybe not by design but sometimes, when your general operating procedures are sound, things have a habit of working out OK.

In this case, have control over a brand name you don’t want to be used. Negotiate your best price. Establish and maintain positive relationships and build a name fir yourself as someone who can deliver and be trusted.

It’s not hard. But when dysfunction sets in it’s impossible.

We will take any loss(if any) who knows what shape the SFA worksteam will be in by then.more a reason to limit any business with them to that which is only necessary.

  26. Am Tearman – the fixture anywhere but Glasgow is a disaster waiting to happen. Celtic fans are not known for starting trouble BUT neither are we likely to run away from it or respond to aggression except in meeting it with aggression of our own. The focus on them pulling out from our point if view will mostly be ripping the p15h out of them but if I’m being honest, it’s also a massive sigh of relief for me. Reputations damage was on the cards.

I’m kinda contradicting my previous post a bit, but that was very much from a ‘business only’ pov.

I would rather we never had to play that rancid, racist vermin anywhere at all. As AC/DC wrote- Money Talks
