Virgil van Dijk looks like a level-headed footballer, so I don’t think his game will be upset by his agent’s loose lips. He has enjoyed a remarkably successful first season at Celtic Park but any attempt by his representatives to create an earner this summer is likely to be inhibited by the three years remaining on his Celtic contract.
There is always a risk of serious injury, but short of that, Virgil’s market value will not diminish in the next 12 months and may even appreciate. He is in a completely different situation from Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper, who glided into the last two and one year of their contracts respectively.
It’s a truism of football that those spending a nation’s the mineral wealth on football players tend to get what they want, but it remains to be seen if a handful of Champions League performances are enough to tempt this kind of approach onto the table. Great player though he promises to be, Virgil’s not been tested at the top level over a prolonged period.

You don’t have to be a loyalist to want to remain in the union.

You don’t have to want a Rebulic, either way.
WeeFra, that is true, but most of those countries had been invaded and had a chance to free themselves from colonial rule. That is not the case in Scotland, we sued for Union.
It’s a complicated decision for each of us, who have the vote, to make.

I see the irrepressible Tony Watt is running to the media once again complaining about how unfairly he is being treated by the Lierse manager in Belgium. Let’s be honest here. His complaints are trivial and smack of unprofessionalism and immaturity. Such complaints should stay in the dressing room.
I for one won’t be losing any sleep if Watt never kicks another ball for Celtic. I know that won’t be popular on here, but is it mere coincidence that every manager/coach he has worked for has had problems with his attitude and application? I don’t think so.
If Tony were to come back and prove me wrong, I would hold my hand up and say I was wrong, and be delighted to do so, but somehow I don’t see it.
