Virgil is in a different place than Victor and Gary were

Virgil van Dijk looks like a level-headed footballer, so I don’t think his game will be upset by his agent’s loose lips.  He has enjoyed a remarkably successful first season at Celtic Park but any attempt by his representatives to create an earner this summer is likely to be inhibited by the three years remaining on his Celtic contract.

There is always a risk of serious injury, but short of that, Virgil’s market value will not diminish in the next 12 months and may even appreciate.  He is in a completely different situation from Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper, who glided into the last two and one year of their contracts respectively.

It’s a truism of football that those spending a nation’s the mineral wealth on football players tend to get what they want, but it remains to be seen if a handful of Champions League performances are enough to tempt this kind of approach onto the table.  Great player though he promises to be, Virgil’s not been tested at the top level over a prolonged period.

Thanks again for all your support of the Mary’s Meals Malawi school kitchen project ahead of Friday’s CQteN St Patrick’s Day dinner.  You can get involved here.

    As a reformed smoker of 30 years,I understand your point of view.

    Nevertheless, not “dictated to”, discouraged from.

  2. No idea about eggs etc.

    About 3 years ago I bought 1/2 doz from one of the supermarkets (chances were it was Asda (govan )).

    Each of the six eggs was a double yoked. I promise.

    I’m 55 years old and have cracked a few eggs in my time (chief cook and bottle washer) but I’ve never ever had another double yoke.

    What’s the odds against that? Six doubles in one box and never another in 55 years? How do you work out the odds?

    I have to agree with WEEFRATHETIM re the smoking ban. Not so much that it was class warfare,but it certainly damaged the Labour Party’s vote.

    It is a matter of record that working-class people are more inclined to smoke and drink,and that was the demographic most affected by the ban. Typically Labour voters,they showed their displeasure.

    A huge own goal by Labour.

    Tough racing…..I knew an ex jockey back in Rathcoole, and for the life of me can’t remember his last name just now, I will find out the morra, anyways, his first name is Mick,it could be Delaney, he rode at Chelt back in the 80s, and he told us that he was about 10 lengths clear running up the hill thinking he has it in the bag, the next thing he remembers is about half a dozen overtaking him as if he was standing still, tough is an understatement >}

    I never mentioned “workers rights” as in the workplace, just that we could not have a pint and a fag at the same time. Standing outside in filthy weather to enjoy our habit was dictatorial. They even disallowed a smoking room. Stuff them, the labour party made hundreds of pounds from me, maybe thousands, and let me down big time. I will never forgive them. Ask yourself this, why have they never won an election for the Scottish Parliament since McConnells departure, I leave that conundrum with your good self. ,maybe it’s because a lot of us smoke. :-))

    Because you have talked about Araucana chicken eggs, i have been longing to try them.

    I am from the Falkirk area, but so far i haven’t found anyone who sells them.

    Do you know, or can you perhaps suggest anyone that does sell them in my area, and if you can, how much would it roughly cost for say, half a dozen of them?

    Every one to their own, I have not disagreed with the non smoking brigade at any time, but why should I stand out in a snowstorm to have a fag, while the hoi poloi can sit in our bars and conspire plans to destroy the working persons standard of life, as, I’m sure happens in most bars nowadays, as most of them are patronaged by the mid to upper class. IMHO

    6. Claim that the platform is now so good you should buy it off me for masses of cash more than the current market value of the assets.

    To apply this to sevco and the recent injection of funds confuses me.

    These guys did not put in equity as above but gave a loan with surety.

    This means;

    Thay see no growth

    They see no return on equity with management intervention

    They see a default on the loan or a massive return on the loan(30%)

    What is the surety? A car park and a high rise?

    This is where I don’t get it. Is this prime land?

    I reckon they bought into the IPO and will look to collapse sevco to get some assets at least.

    I still don’t get why they would put 1.5m in for a car park.
