Virgil is in a different place than Victor and Gary were

Virgil van Dijk looks like a level-headed footballer, so I don’t think his game will be upset by his agent’s loose lips.  He has enjoyed a remarkably successful first season at Celtic Park but any attempt by his representatives to create an earner this summer is likely to be inhibited by the three years remaining on his Celtic contract.

There is always a risk of serious injury, but short of that, Virgil’s market value will not diminish in the next 12 months and may even appreciate.  He is in a completely different situation from Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper, who glided into the last two and one year of their contracts respectively.

It’s a truism of football that those spending a nation’s the mineral wealth on football players tend to get what they want, but it remains to be seen if a handful of Champions League performances are enough to tempt this kind of approach onto the table.  Great player though he promises to be, Virgil’s not been tested at the top level over a prolonged period.

Thanks again for all your support of the Mary’s Meals Malawi school kitchen project ahead of Friday’s CQteN St Patrick’s Day dinner.  You can get involved here.

    Good day to CQN.

Shame about our young reserves last night. I hope the next few tricky weeks can be the making of them.

Notwithstanding how the season pans out it’s been a great effort after sending away more than a full team on loan.

God forbid, but if we found ourselves in a similar situation I’d hope we do it the way you suggest.

Financial doping apart, it would be better for the game in general imo.

  7. Good day to any lhouns or qhuines around.

I’m up in Aberdeen next week for a course and am on the lookout for the best place for a spot of the black stuff to toast St Paddy on his special day.

    Any recommendations?

  8. Noticed a wee debate on the ole smokin gun.

Gave up 10 years ago on the 27th of Decvember just past.

Never once during that time did I feel like a ciggy up until the last 4 months for some strange reason. Mental. On a couple of occassions on nights out I have had one or 2 ciggies while under the influence of alcohol. Crazy mental. Once a smoker always an addict. Mental Mental Mental!

Anyway! Imagine smoking was banned tomorrow. How long before there would be an economic collapse?!

    Tax reduction for the exchequer.

Pharmacuetical profits falling over mid to long term as less people become victim to heart disease, strokes, lung disease. Less requirement for drugs, radiotherapy, chemotherapy. Manufacturing jobs lost. R&D jobs lost. Science jobs lost.

Nusring and NHS jobsd lost due to less requirement for staff to care for all those requiring treatment for related diseases. Higher unemployment.

Over the years a whole economic boom has been created by tabacco companies, governments and smokers.

Before smoking ever gets binned by any government a new disease creator will have to be found to replace the economic boom smoking provides the country.

MWD it ain’t going to happen. Nae more fags for me (unless I’m gished)

  9. VVD and FF will be sold as soon as the right bids come in……….to boost the Profit & Loss accounts…….. to make up the short fall in season book and general attendance revenues.

Its a disgrace…..dress the bull shit up anyway you like but it remains a disgrace.

If VVD and FF are sold there will be no CL group football…….

    More than a football club?………absolutely

  12. I read that the failed manager is getting a bit upset about whether the club or the team should be taking the flak over Sunday’s gallant result.

So we now have Company, Club and Team being selectively used to deflect responsibility, this is all getting quite confusing.

I may have missed this but has a running order or some sort been published for Friday’s CQTen event? I’ve already bugged the organisers with too many direct innane questions… :-)

  14. Smoking figures.

1970’s. – 75% of adults in the UK smoked

    2000’s. – 25% of adults smoke

  15. Just as everything was going along chummy, the “Bad Celtic” guys turn up, honestly, Groundhog Day stuff, every day it’s the same old, same old,and it only takes one, just watch, this is the opening for the lurking Huns to post now, GIRUYs.

Do u think we will turn down bids for FF and virgil and try and keep them ?

Any player that gets bored pulling on the hoops in my opinion should be sold asap. No matter who it is.

But we dont do ourselves any favours, we seem to lose our best players very easily therefor showing lack of ambition to other players and potential new signings.

  18. From the BBC website and good old Al Lamint discussing the Lting boy coming to Glasgow….

His plan then is to come to Glasgow at the end of the week to meet fans groups and other interested parties, with the current board having requested an audience.

So the board seeking an “audience” with King? Hunbelievable guff…..

  19. Greendreamz,

Celtic are no different from almost every other club in the world.

Any player will be sold if the right bid comes in.

    I think Virgil will stay.

Forster has achieved everything he can up here. If he wants to go it makes sense to sell him. We have had plenty time to source a new goalie.

Yeah well we might seem to lose them easily but it’s not really the truth.

If VVD leaves this summer for <£8m I might change my tune. But I'm not gonna sit and worry about every little thing that hasn't happened.

    On the independance discussion.

    Everyone in Dubin asks me about it and the most striking points are;

    1. They are shocked that I don’t get a vote despite my birth cert being reg in Glasgow and place of birth Paisley

    2. They think that Scotland was conquered as Ireland was and can’t understand why i would vote no(if i had one)

My question is – if Scotland goes independent, will football fans be released to support English clubs(as they are now proper foreign) like the Dubs do and see falling attendances at Scottish clubs?

    ==

    Point of order Mo Chara,

Ireland was never conquered, occupied and subjected to numerous attempts at genocide perpetrated by the English and our Scots cousins. A conquered people do not continue to fight.

“as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.”

Surprisingly written by a Scots man.

  23. I think the same to be honest , our results in europe may put the bigger teams off virgil for another season…

Look at kelvin wilsons performances in europe last season and a return to forest was best he could do.

If we get around 10m for forster id be delighted.. Even more delighted if lenny was given it all.

  24. We moan when we bring rubbish players in. e.g. Bangura. Rightly so.

We moan when we bring reasonable players in- not ambitious enough e.g Pukki

We moan when we bring top quality players in- their sell on keeps Season Book prices under control VVD, Vic etc.

How many top players have ambitions to play in the school playground that is Scottish football? Very very few indeed.
