We are Celtic, ambition

1392

On Thursday I wrote Brendan Rodgers ‘will be a remarkable signing’.  One day after the event, it feels very remarkable.  Some found it so remarkable they have attempted a smile for the first time since Artmedia took the lead.  I’ve even spoken to Newco fans who were engaged by the appointment.  The aphorism, a rising tide lifts all boats, feels apt.

Some weeks ago I heard Peter Lawwell talk about the difficulty of landing a top tier manager in our current environment, however, he finished with a positive “But we are Celtic”.  People want to come here; managers, players, even tourists.  For all the Scottish game’s limits, we are Celtic, let’s not forget.

We’ve used some of that cachet to bring people to the game.  There will be more cameras, more reporters, more international media, more TV viewers and many more glutes on seats next season.  This will reflect on all.

Our media rights are worth more today than they were a week ago.  Consider for a moment how Dafabet and Magners view yesterday’s news?  For all they knew when they signed their shirt deals, we could have had Owen Coyle in charge next season, unless his auntie told them otherwise [an old CQN in-joke].

I’m pleased to hear so many comments that this is a sign of ambition, although ambition is always more nuanced than it appears.  Ambition every year is to win the league and qualify for the Champions League, that’s always the plan, whether it happens, or if it’s only half achieved.  Hopefully the ambition is loaded with a little authority this summer.

Sannabhoy asked me to pass on these comments on behalf of the Kano Foundation to the CQN community:

“To round the season off the Kano Foundation had a visit from Almore to present us with a donation from the Dublin 1916 CQN gathering on Sunday for the sum of £580.

“As you know, this event, to commemorate the Easter rising of 1916, was organised by CQNers Almore and ClogherCelt, and featured 30 CQN members among the 70 scots who travelled over to join the 120 locals at the festivities.  A brilliant time was had by all (just to rub it in to the absentees).

“Brian Ainslie, trustee, is pictured here receiving the cheque from Almore and Delaney’s Dunky.
Kano cheque
“On behalf of The Kano Foundation it gives us great pride and pleasure to accept this fantastic donation.  We appreciate the numerous good causes that are out there and to be beneficiaries of this, and the historically significant events it commemorates, is humbling and makes the efforts of the patrons, ambassadors, volunteers and trustees worthwhile.

“To Martin Connor and Alan Curran, who organised it, we’d just like to say, on behalf of the almost 5000 kids we have taken to Celtic Park, thank you very much.  Without support like yours we couldn’t continue to do this. Hail Hail.

“On that note, I’m away for a kip until next season – I’ll need it – we can take 2000 kids next year . HELP!!”

What a stunning community you are.  Well done.

Hibs captain was magic yesterday, got his reward for a never say die performance.

Stokesy ran the superstar sevco full back ragged….battered him.

Pleased for Hibs, they deserved it.

    Sunshine on Leith was beautiful.

    Sevco reaction….typical lying bs

They are a blight on football, horrible people…..well beaten yesterday.

BBC commentators lapping it right up….Europe,..blah, blah….then disaster, lol.

    The muppets deserved defeat.

Remember any SFA action against Hibs will be years away.

I mean – aren’t they still investigating the sectarian singing at the Rangers-Kilmarnock game from February 2012?

  7. Have yet to see any comment from the man who used to have a magic hat congratulating Hibs on the victory and excellent performance yesterday. The chaos at the end allowed them to body swerve any media commitments. Surely for one so dignified it would be the right thing to have done.

Yesterday showed them up for the one dimensional unimaginative outfit that they are. The man who used to have a magic hat has dodged a bullet between Brendan arriving tomorrow and the inquest into yesterday’s carry on he can stay under the radar. Next season will show them up for what they are. We welcome the challenge.

  8. How good were L Hendersons corners yesterday, why didnt he do that for us? Oh aye KC took them all.

I think Brendy will bring him back, Anto? Maybes naw.

Good stuff, I didn’t put one penny on the game in case I Hibs’ed Hibs, looked at Hibs with both teams scoring 7/1 & Stokesy hattrick at 125/1, just before Gray scored the commentator mentioned Anto getting a hattrick ……. I would have loved the hard luck story

Sky Sports news saying that ‘up to six Rangers(sic) players or staff were injured yesterday????

Up to? Surely they know how many were supposedly injured?

  12. Can’t defend a mass pitch invasion but the reaction from the Huns is over the top. If anybody assaulted a player they should be sine died from football.

That guy who tried to snatch a wean and got a smack for it deserves all he gets. I hope they find him.

Not coming out to receive their LOSERS medals was petty in the extreme. The non reporting of The Rangers fans violence and sectarian singing continues the SMSM bias against all clubs who are not the Huns

Killie wanted the tax evaders parachuted straight back in the Spl so it’s the Furry Boots mob for me, in Falkirk when you first get introduced to the locals they ask “furry boots r ye fae ?”

In my opinion that are lesser of 2 Hun mobs playing today

  16. Missus raging…

Shouldn’t be allowed to borrow players..

Tell that to the huns babe :O)

Chico has just compared yesterday’s events to someone running into a bakers and battering the guy who makes the doughnuts .

You sure he didn’t say “Lie running into the Bakery & battering the Doughnuts”?

  24. What a week for Celtic and sad fenian bastards or just fenians in general, what a way to end the season, which began with the news of the incoming manager, as Ronny bowed out with dignity and with an emphatic win, all perfectly orchestrated by Celtic to dominate a showpiece. Friday through Monday to start us on the Brendan voyage. A new dawn in news reporting, where Celtic supporters get the news from Celtic supporters and Celtic Quick News, foremost.

The week also saw the sectarian problem in all its former gory, 20,000 Sevcs in unison for the second time in two months, met with the sound of silence. Another world record broken with the fastest statement in the history of the game, laughingly claiming victimhood, and getting their union style retaliation in first.

The *Rangers* manifestation isn’t the problem, the lower Scotland foot soldiers that support anything out of the old lady of Edminston, and sing sectarian bile unrelentingly, are repeat not the quandary. The real Billy Boy problem in Scotland where we get the only live televised Roman Catholic hatred via our own BBC licence lies with those in power, those that cheated the old club to death, then promoted the stolen assets, in a mythological fantasy as same club

Not hearing it won’t do if *the Rangers* want to continue it seems they’ll have to be dragged into the modern world, they clearly can’t do it by themselves, but someone in power including those at Celtic need to join into any attempted solution.

Yesterdays so called ‘restraint’ was a timely reminder that Celtic require not to hide behind a business, if it’s a business we should be fighting for our discriminated against patrons on all possible fronts, and full steam ahead with Res 12.

The Celtic Ticket Office served long queues all week, there is new hope that was absent in the last two years, appointing a former EPL manager puts Celtic back in the spotlight where champions of Scotland has to have meaning and depth, and Celtic have done that.

More than a football club, – why don’t you prove it?
