We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies

1494

Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.

As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.

That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.

The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.

Bring it on.  We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

  1. Ernie, perhaps the statement, or lack there of is because Celtic know the game is afoot, from a UEFA point of view.

CQN tweeted Celtic were going to put out a statement but the landscape changed, so they didn’t, hence my assumption UEFA are active.

I am reading between the lines here, but that’s my guess.

  2. The site is becoming unusable. On Windows 10 with Microsoft Edge it hangs due to long running scripts. Just about as bad on Explorer. VPN’s slow it down even more.

Mobiles are a wee bit better, iPhone but I don’t want a browser only for CQN.

Welcome back. I’m tempted to crack a joke about e.mails but worried you might flounce again. :-)))).

Paul 67. Celtic asked for second game to be postponed, I think we have to look in the financial mirror, as to why no opening game flag day. I know Euro tie is on season book, but it doesn’t sit well with me that the unfurling of the flag isn’t at a league game.

Tynecastle bring it on, no chance of a ticket right enough, I recall Aug 1985. Paul McStay scoring a lot minute equaliser there, we jumped about like mad, even then Hearts fans were scummy, little did we know how important that goal was, fast forward to May 1986 and we win the league at love st on goal difference from Hearts.

  9. Ernie, can you post the reply you received from Peter Lawwell, apropos your concern at the lack of statement (Res 12). Or as you can’t put postage stamp on expenses, maybe you have not contacted Peter Lawwell? Welcome back Auld Tam, hurry back Canadian Tom, things are too quiet.

  10. Let’s not shout “conspiracy” at everything – if we do we will end up being ridiculed, like the the ‘little boy who cried wolf’ (or squirrel).

Dropping a fixture of our choice, in order to facilitate a glamour friendly, will have been factored in, and therefore MUST have an effect on the outcome.

Not every decision the SFA/SPFL makes is carefully designed to screw us – the world just doesn’t work like that.

That Fixture list is not a problem for Celts.

Bring it on and put pretenders to the sword, and the earlier the better!!

Btw there are no easy games for Sevco in that little lot!!! No not one ;-)

The flip side for thems is the draws and defeats in their first few games, followed by a string of trouncings by Celts, Dons and Hertz that would mean they are wallowing about in the mud-wrestling contest at the foot of the division.

Then we can sit back and enjoy repeated spin factory attempts to garnish the jobby, to the echo of an emptying Poundland.

All communications between Peter and myself are strictly confidential and are certainly not to be shared with the likes of you.

What I can say though is that next season is going to be very exciting.

Just like it used to be.

  14. In 2005 we started with 2 home fixtures in a row. There’s no reason they couldn’t have done that this season. Then everybody would have been accommodated.

  15. Woo Hoo – the Res 12 T Shit arrived at last. Unfortunately the anticipated (but not really expected) statement from the present custodians of our esteemed Club has not materialised. I’m hoping that funds raised by the T shirt sale go some way to forcing this issue onwards and upwards.

If the board do not make a statement supporting the Resolution then I’m afraid it just confirms that all they wanted was the season ticket money and we are just “customers” to them.

You are by no means alone. I renewed this year after careful considerations, and some assurances from the guys in the know here, that Res12 was not going to be swept away, and that a statement will be forthcoming.

I have no reason to doubt WC , Auldhied and the rest of the guys who have worked tirelessly to get us to this point.

It has taken a chunk of their lives that they’ll never get back. So although we would all like to hear imminently from the club, a few more weeks will make no difference.

  18. WEEMINGER on 17TH JUNE 2016 2:04 PM

If we were to start with two home games then someone would need to start with two away games. That would be unfair on the team who this happened to, especially as it’s to allow us to play in a friendly.

  19. Whether the club release a statement or not is not where the action is.

They said they’d do it previously – that is for sure. They didn’t so have left themselves open to criticism. Fair enough.

Indeed from a personal point of view it was a line in the sand.

However, again speaking personally, I am now quite happy that they haven’t and I am not that bothered if they ever do.

It could be argued that they have played a blinder. Indeed it will be argued! It’s CQN after all.

However I will say again it is NOT where the action is.

  28. If we have messed up Doncaster’s big opening day selling plans by asking for a friendly option then this looks like payback.

Disappointed that it now looks like flag day will occur in a midweek slot when I’m on holiday and my daughter will be gutted to miss it.

Not surprised at the fixture computer spitting this out. It is afterall programmed by a human administrator.

It should be fair for Ernie or anyone else to ask about RES !” updates on here since this is where it has been planned and executed and where we sell T shirts.

If the strategy no longer requires CFC to make statement and objectives can be achieved otherwise that is fair enough. My reading of both Morrisey and Canamalar was that they seemed pessimistic. BRTH was gung ho at the time but has been quiet since and Auldheid has been quiet too.

WC is a late side member on the PR front. As an initial RES 12 signatory I think we need less masonic style ‘in the know’ hinting and a bit more clarity on whether UEFA have picked it up and are running with it, whether the club intends or does not intend to publicly declare interest in/support for this development and rough timescales for movement.

This should not be taken as any criticism of the RES 12 four as they have my total respect and support for their efforts to get us to this point.

Cleaning out the SFA. I hope that’s top of our Executives’ objectives for the coming year…
