We might begin looking like a team on Saturday

852

I’m sure Ronny Deila has used the international break to take in as many scouting games as possible, but he’ll be keen to see his players return to Lennoxtown, fit and available for selection.

Adam Matthews spoke to Celtic media on possibly returning for Saturday’s game against Ross County.  Having not played since August he’ll be well short of match fitness but his presence is badly needed.  We have a must-win Europa League game against Astra next week, with the shape of the team looking so haphazard at the moment it’s crucial we get a benefit of a recognised right back.  Adam needs an hour on Saturday.

Now that central mid is looking solid with Brown and Johansen, the addition of Matthews and McGregor will benefit the right, while allowing Mubarak to fit into his more natural position on the left.  We might begin looking like a team.  Adam also has the engine to play the football Ronny is keen on.

The only question remains how to get our Europa League-eligible strikers looking the part – and that’s not a suggestion to drop John Guidetti on Saturday!

Impressive result for Scotland. Could have won all their games if the finishing had been better. Same lessons as always, at this level individual errors and moments of class win games. Great result for Ireland. Everything still to play for for Scotland and Ireland. I’m hoping we are Ist and 2nd. Let the Germans and Poles fight out 3rd place.

Would have Anya at Celtic. Like his commitment to the cause and he makes his presence count when needed. I’m beginning to understand what Steven Fletcher has to offer. He’s like lesser Sutton but still very effective if played to his strengths. Darren Fletcher is class, I’d have him at Celtic no question.

  2. LennyBhoy, can I answer that on Friday.

Appointment then will tell me what I need to be doing.

    I’ll fill you in later.

Magic to meet you at last on Sat, albeit briefly. See you at the Weefra Corner soon. :)

  10. Having a polish papa I am pleased enough with that tonight. Can wear my new Poland top at footy now. Have also family connections with Ireland and Germany…. What a group this is for me and mine! Was pleased and see a Scotland team playing with a first touch which has been missing for yonks. Why did Strachan’s celtic not play like this? Love the wee fella tho….

  11. Caught the 2nd halves here in sunny Calpe. Before the games started I thought a reasonable target was 4 points from first 3 games so we’re well on course. Which is nice

I have great friends who are Serbian or Bosnian Serbia. A good friend was the daughter of a minister in the Yugoslav government when Tito died. Her father recognised the plans of the government to impose Belgrade rule over the other states in Yugoslavia. This policy led to the Balkan war.

Her father opposed the policy and had to flee the country losing their house and all ties with their country.

    She now lives in Australia.

Sadly there is “history” between Serbia and most of the local states. Albanians have a strong presence in Kosovo and the struggles of the people of Kosovo for Independence are at the heart of the protests tonight.

  13. Good results for the ‘Celtic’ Nations – theoretically its as you were.

    Poland – P3 +9 = 7pts (1 tie v Gibraltar)

    R.o.I – P3 +8 = 7pts (1 tie v Gibraltar)

    Scotland – P3 +0 = 4pts (2 ties v Gibraltar)

    Germany – P3 -1 = 4pts (2 ties v Gibraltar)

Down to Scotland & Germany to improve GD v Gibraltar – and then we will see how it goes with the ‘big’ home ties.

I don’t often read the daily mail online.

The article apart, one thing that caught my eye was the following statement attached to every picture containing supporters.

“- it is not known whether the fans shown in this picture were involved in the disorder”

I’ve never seen that used before, possibly to avoid legal issues?

Wonder if the SMSM will notice.

  15. Thought Steven Fletcher looked a class player tonight, as did Shaun. Someone said he’s out of contract end of season, we should be trying to get him back, as he’s proven to be a home bird previously. Weak links for Scotland tonight were the two fullbacks, not that I’m biased in any way.

    jinkynewton,

good question about the first touch. Is it due to the pressure and expectation at Celtic? Several Scottish player still suffer from a bad touch but they all cover each other. Naismith, whether you like him or not is a classic example. Has a whole load of horror touches and shots but keeps going and occasionally comes up with something sublime, be it a pass or goal. A lot has to be said for knowing and trusting your teammates. Both Strachan and O’Neill are masters at fostering that quality. I hope to see them both in the Euros although I hope Scotland gives Ireland a tanking! ;) (and we both give everyone else a tanking!). I vote for a Scotand vs Ireland Euro final with Scotland crowned Euro champs!

  17. When draw was made I would have bet Scotland would finish no higher than 4th. After a decade of spiraling downwards we are suddenly a team to fear. All down to a change of mngmt?

  18. Scotland are playing a brand of football that relies on a good team spirit, with players working their ass off for each other. Instill the same spirit at Celtic and Ronny will get similar performances and results.
