We might begin looking like a team on Saturday

852

I’m sure Ronny Deila has used the international break to take in as many scouting games as possible, but he’ll be keen to see his players return to Lennoxtown, fit and available for selection.

Adam Matthews spoke to Celtic media on possibly returning for Saturday’s game against Ross County.  Having not played since August he’ll be well short of match fitness but his presence is badly needed.  We have a must-win Europa League game against Astra next week, with the shape of the team looking so haphazard at the moment it’s crucial we get a benefit of a recognised right back.  Adam needs an hour on Saturday.

Now that central mid is looking solid with Brown and Johansen, the addition of Matthews and McGregor will benefit the right, while allowing Mubarak to fit into his more natural position on the left.  We might begin looking like a team.  Adam also has the engine to play the football Ronny is keen on.

The only question remains how to get our Europa League-eligible strikers looking the part – and that’s not a suggestion to drop John Guidetti on Saturday!

Representing our country doesn’t, negate me from calling a player a Hun, I don’t use the term to be offensive, I would call any player that played for them a Hun. No wonder we ended up with the OBB if some of our own support are offended by the term.

  7. Lhads it should be a happy night. 2 excellent results from Ireland & Scotland. I’m just a wee ghuy but I feel 10 ft tall at the moment. So may I suggest less of the silly bickering and just enjoy the night. Better still Celtic are playing next week-end and the come-back starts from then. I just know it will.

  9. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

    Jamesgang, haha.

Shaun has great football intelligence and a younger player of his ability would be great for us, preferably home grown.

I don’t see our media having an issue with Shaun’s or Anya’s eligibility to play for other countries when they make a ginormous hoo-ha about Aiden & James McCarthy playing for Ireland. Shaun could play for Malaysia ( where he was born) or England as his dad is English. Anya could play for Nigeria or Roumania.I believe the countries his father and mother are from.

Ray Houghton,Jim Gillespie, Bernie Salven, Owen Coyle & Tommy Coyne , for some reason, never got the amount of grief Aiden got for choosing Ireland rather than Scotland.

Unsurprisingly, the media will really ramp it up prior to the Scotland Ireland game at Celtic Park.

  10. bgx-my point is the only interest i have in international football is ,the Celtic players get home fit for our next game.I may not be alone in this.

  11. Itscalled …im sure Scotlands players will suffer similair abuse…and it aint North Britain…its Scotland.

    .

  12. Bada bing…i get that …i used to have a similair attitude….no argument from me on that Bada….your prime concern is Celtic.

  14. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Delaney’s, you must be proud to be a distant relative of our first team coach, John Kennedy, Jimmy’s grandson.

John should have been our captain now. It’s hard to think he’s only thirty this year.

I still remember his debut as a sixteen year old against Dundee.

When John was on loan at Norwich, their manager at the time, Glenn Roeder, said John had the best attitude of any player he had worked with considering the damage which had been infilcted on his knee by Ganea.

    Dallas,

One of the reasons why Aiden was treated differently to the other Scots born players may be because there was so much disappointment at losing out on a potential star. Aiden’s debut was wonderful.

Keeping the Faith, Jim Gillespie played for Queens Park, Motherwell and possibly a Belgian team. He was included in a few Ireland squads in the early eighties if my mind isn’t playing tricks on me.

    His parents are from Donegal.

I think we both know that the abuse that the two scoddish born players will receive will be be a lot more hostile than any other normal “banter” handed out to opposition players.

That is understandable but we all know its really fired by an anti-Celtic hatred.

Maybe the media could switch the spotlight onto McPake of Hibs & Paton of Dundee United, both of which have played for another country out with their birth.

  22. Jimmy Delaney

    From Wikipedia

Delaney joined Celtic on provisional forms in 1933 from Stoneyburn Juniors, signing a permanent contract the following year.[1] He spent 13 years with the Glasgow club, making 305 appearances in all competitions. Delaney suffered the misfortune of a badly broken arm in a home game against Arbroath in April 1939. The injury sustained being further exacerbated by the opposition player Attilio Becchi, who was apparently a Celtic fan, accidentally stepping on his arm. Delaney’s torn football shirt was sold for £564 at Christie’s in 2002.

In the late 60s I was in Arbroath on holiday and went to Mass in the little church in Dishlandtown Street (sic). My dad pointed out this guy and said he was the player who had broken Jimmy Delaney’s arm.

  23. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Delaney’s, his performance in the Camp Nou and then at Ibrox the following weekend were gargantuan even though he ended up at left back in the Ibrox game. We really should have pummeled them that day but only won 2 1.

His performances in those two matches earned him his call up for that fateful game v Roumania.

His tackle in the first half on Ronaldinho at the Camp Nou was perfectly timed.

No Gillespie ever played for Ireland Dallas as far as I can see. But point taken. In fact did Owen Coyle ever play for first team ? Can’t be bothered googling that too
