We might begin looking like a team on Saturday

852

I’m sure Ronny Deila has used the international break to take in as many scouting games as possible, but he’ll be keen to see his players return to Lennoxtown, fit and available for selection.

Adam Matthews spoke to Celtic media on possibly returning for Saturday’s game against Ross County.  Having not played since August he’ll be well short of match fitness but his presence is badly needed.  We have a must-win Europa League game against Astra next week, with the shape of the team looking so haphazard at the moment it’s crucial we get a benefit of a recognised right back.  Adam needs an hour on Saturday.

Now that central mid is looking solid with Brown and Johansen, the addition of Matthews and McGregor will benefit the right, while allowing Mubarak to fit into his more natural position on the left.  We might begin looking like a team.  Adam also has the engine to play the football Ronny is keen on.

The only question remains how to get our Europa League-eligible strikers looking the part – and that’s not a suggestion to drop John Guidetti on Saturday!

  1. Re the abuse dished out to Aiden and James McCarthy at opposition grounds. . .

Can you imagine the abuse a Scotland manager would get if he walked out on his country in the middle of a qualifying campaign to manage a Scottish club. . . Oh, wait a minute!

I have never felt so proud and involved watching Scotland as I did tonight since probably the games against Belgium and Spain in the early 80s.

I watched it in the company of The Ayrshire Tims,a darn good crew,in a pub so busy you had to walk out one door and in the next to go to the toilet, nae chance of struggling through otherwise.

I’m a happy man tonight. We have a national team to be proud of.

Btw,last night in CQNers company till next summer. Good way to spend it.

    Beatbhoy, its amazing isn’t it.

The media just seem to think the Legned going to Ibrox was the just thing to do.

We should be above and used to the multiple standards of our media where we are involved but it still grates.

As posters earlier have stated, the press are praising Neil now despite him being the devil incarnate in Scottish football over the last fourteen years.

I read some Bolton fans comments, some said they can’t stand him but will support Neil. No reasons why they didn’t like him.

  5. I wonder how Ireland and Scotland managed to get results tonight while playing two wingers each (McGeady/McLean) & (Maloney/Anya).

As MON and WGS repeated the so-called football idiocy that is practised by Ronny Deila for Celtic, I must assume that their midfield was overwhelmed by the opposition and that both these guys know nothing about football.

P.S. Just in case anyone thinks Kojo knows what he is talking about with the youths, we have no player called Ryan Miller. We do have a good kid from Castlemilk called Calvin Miller.

Bobby Murdoch, Scotland’s performance v Spain in 1984 is the best I have ever seen from them even though the peroxide jobbie scored twice that night.

    Kenny’s goal was incredible.

Father Martin was a wonderful priest the Burns episode had a big affect on his health, he was hounded by the press at the time, my auld granny (God rest her) used to do work around the parish including the house, it broke her heart to see Fr Martin suffer after that.

What good is it for the Scottish press to write supportively of him now?

They deliberately did the opposite when he could have done with their unqualified condemnation of the disgraceful way he was being treated in Scotland, both as a Celtic player and manager.

You’re right, it does grate, and so it should.

Still, we all know who had the last laugh.

  11. Good morning all.

Just popped in to let you know I’m still lurking away here. I’ve been a wee bit disillusioned with the blog for the past couple of months, with the keyboard bullies taking centre stage. I’m delighted to see the blog is a better place now, although there are still one or two still ready for a slagging match. Soooooooooo, back to lurking. :-))))

  12. I’ll be heading over from the emerald isle to watch the game on 14 November. It’ll be weird watching other teams at Celtic Park but hoping Martin’s international bhoys will show a bit more ambition than tonight and get a result. I think it really is a tough one to call. Both teams equally matched in personnel and with conservative managers but I’m hoping Martin and Gordon take the handbrakes off slightly. Coleman hopefully back along with McCarthy. Wanna see Gibson and McClean play and personally would drop Keane.

Anya is a real threat for Scotland, as is Naismith.

Looking forward to a couple of pints with the Tartan Army.

Ultimately want us both to qualify!!!

I hate to say it but in our generation and probably the next one as well I can’t see it. My only hope is that it seems to be more polarised now. The uber bigots have realised they are under threat and are making more noise than they merit. I had the the misfortune to be in Johnstone on Saturday where a Sons of the Somme loyalist march was being held. I was waiting to pick my son up from work and there were a few ne-r-do-wells hanging about in their bright red trackies and mouths hanging open. A kind of white trash day out.Hopefully another fifty years will see Scotland move on to a new level

    Next Question…”

I kind of anticipated that line of reasoning, so your next question is:-

“If it’s only a mistake to use this formation/tactic when your players are not good enough, how come it worked for Ronny at Stromgodset?”

I can well imagine that if or when ROI and/or Scotland crash and burn with this approach, it will be because their personnel are somehow back to being not good enough again.

IMO, the system is fine and the 3 coaches using it are fine. It is not a problem with the system or the coaches ability to communicate as all3 can talk fine. We just need to get better at what the coach is asking for- oh! and stick the ball in the net more often.

It’s great to be talking about a Celtic game again by saying well done to the Development League Bhoys tonight. A number of things about this game encourage me.

A clean sheet for the defence. Leigh and Stefan played. Leigh and Stefan scored.

I hope that any, or all, of Leigh, Stefan and John who don’t play at Dingwall on Saturday, turn out and score next mid-week for whichever one of our teams they’re asked to represent.

That’s the kind of professionalism I support.

Beatbhoy, sorry my wording should have been better.

I meant to say the media should not mention anything that will inflame things about Aiden & James in the build up to the game but we know it will be the exact opposite.

The Hamilton chairman was on one of the phone ins a few years back defending James’ choice of playing for Ireland. He said the SFA never approached James to play for Scotland as Archie Knox, yes that odious git, who worked with Scottish youth players, said James wasn’t good enough to get into the youth squads.

  24. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

In the games Scepovic has started, he has had only two chances in the box, one against the Dons & one against the Mothers. Both were on target although he was offside v the Dons and should have scored the header v the Mothers.

He was in the the box which is what we need and once he gets one, I’m certain more will follow.
