Week with a sting in the tail

The narrative was set for Aberdeen.  After six consecutive league wins without losing a goal, their bubble was burst when they drew with Dundee and St Johnstone, but it hasn’t turned out that way.  They have scored 10 and not conceded in the three league games since.  Out of the Scottish and League Cups, their entire focus is on beating teams less resourceful than them in the league, which is everyone apart from Celtic.

Despite Celtic’s impressive ability to collect points dating back several months, Aberdeen are hanging in there, a remarkable achievement.   The only thing which separates the teams are Celtic’s two 2-1 wins in their previous meetings this season.  From Saturday afternoon Aberdeen’s complete focus will be on their visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.

By contrast, Celtic will return to Glasgow early Friday morning after their trip to Milan.  They will face Aberdeen pretty much as that trip leaves them.

If I was offered a win and a defeat this week, I’d take the win in Milan, but we will need enough in te tank for Sunday’s game.

Thanks to everyone who booked a ticket over the weekend for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner on Friday on 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Anyone still to catch up, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  1. I think whats important is this.

Most of the kids I see in my area…..are wearing Celtic tops.

But id be willing to bet…that at least half of them….are not catholics.

That is a growing trend in Glasgow….The kids are Celtic daft.

And that’s why Glasgow is Green&White…..and its nothing to do with religion.

  2. JFH. Well done. Sometimes people on here forget that younger fans are also reading their offensive language.

  3. Connaire12 :

    You are quite right.

And even those who were ‘christened’ (they don’t like the term ‘baptised’ – it too is deemed ‘Catholic’) most likely haven’t been in the Kirk/church since that day.

On the issue of which version of protestantism do they actually belong to, it reminds me of an old joke:

    Q. Why do Scottish Catholics shout “Up the Pope” ? (not that they actually do)

    A. It is a lot easier than shouting “Down with the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland”.

    Great wee tale that.

Pretty much sums up what a few of us were discussing the other week regarding the Religious Census from 2011 in Scotland.

  5. JFH,

While I have some sympathy with that we need to remember not everyone believes and more to the point many believe forcing our religious sensibilities on them shows a lack of tolerance.

  6. From what I’ve read they were called ‘marauding huns’ by a Wolverhampton P.C. who was unfortunate to be on duty when they brought their ‘Shock and Awe tour to his patch in 1961.

They have also destructively appeared at Newcastle, Birmingham, Sunderland and most famously Manchester when they excelled at living up to the term ‘marauding hun’.

Cheekily they sang it to us but it never caught on as hun really is a state of mind and we don’t have the necessary qualifications. They’ve sung it at Ibrox to a visiting German side as they tried to lose their hard fought term but they’ve never been good at songs. Being in the Broomloan in the ’90’s wasn’t often a good experience but you got some laughs; The Dambusters and various other military tunes was often belted out over the P.A. system just to aid Klos and Albertz in their warm up…

I digress. Hun has come to mean those who blindly love Brittania but still make Nazi salutes; those who model themselves on the Billy Boys; those who believe the Tricolour is an IRA flag; those who hate Celtic etc etc etc

If the cap fits; but this is a deflection tactic.

  7. Sometimes The Club really need to retaliate .A case in point was the day before LC semi

When Smith was rolled out and had a go at our young striker from Sweden, accusing him of showing the “HUNS”disrespect. Now anyone who watched the interview, knows full well he never said he was going to score 3 against them.Smith should have been shot down by someone from our club, politely reminding him ,that he and the rest of the side letter mob should have respected the whole of Scottish Football before they embarked on their cheating spree.

  8. I met a few of the young GB on sun.

    Great lads….and passionate Celtic supporters.

    They made me smile.

Those kids love Celtic, they same way we do.

    That will do for me.

I’d try the Dubliner, but they’re unlikely to be showing anything other than ELP games.

You are 100% sure to see the game if you hop on a train to Malmö (about 30 minutes from Copenhagen) and go to Sir Toby’s, where all Tic games are shown for the Malmö CSC.

    Tell them Damo sent you.

So you are admitting you sent an email to Radio Clyde complaining about comments on a show you didn’t hear, and now that you have received a response from Clyde, you want others to fill you in on the details so that you can construct a response to their response.

My God I’ve heard it all now.

  11. Just read Doncaster’s statement.

    Wow! What a shocker!

    No-one expected that outcome.

And they wonder why no-one wants to sponsor the Scottish game.

Farcical doesn’t even begin to describe how the game is run in Scotland.

    Aye exactly.. well nearly.

Never listened to clyde in my life but have no reason to doubt the people of CQN.

People on here explained what was said and asked people to send off email.. that was enough for me.

I have bit of time on me hands before bed so was asking for link to original comments.

I never said he was wrong.

I have had the pleasure of his company during a Celtic Rangers game and have no doubts about what exactly he is
