Westminster MPs ready to accommodate Administrators

572

A group of Westminster MPs are set to accommodate administrators Rangers FC PLC in London tomorrow in the hope of using whatever influence they have to pull a deal together.  Political interference in distressed companies is not uncommon but on this occasion the risks of collateral damage are enormous.

Fifa strictly prohibits political interference in football matters and has banned national teams and their representative clubs from international competition for matters as trivial as politically motivated appointments, never mind overt political lobbying on behalf of a football club in tax delinquency.

Prime Minister, David Cameron, commented on Rangers situation last week, although unlike Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, he limited himself to a neutral comment, however, I hear that Treasury officials have already been lobbied to exert pressure on HM Revenue and Customs to agree to whatever necessary to prevent Rangers from suffering the consequences of not paying tax.

Ironically, it’s Celtic and the Scotland national team who are set to suffer.  Craig Levein hopes to take his Scotland team into the World Cup qualifying tournament in September while Neil Lennon will hope to give his Celtic team a chance to qualify for the Champions League.  Fifa would be delighted to take the British government and football associations down a notch or two after the accusations of bribery at the international body emanating from England when their bid to host the World Cup perished.

Duff and Phelps have nothing to lose from meeting the MPs but with so much at stake for Scotland, Celtic and our other European entrants next season, the Scottish and London politicians must rein-in their over political interference and the SFA must get off their backsides and remind everyone of Fifa rules.

Totally agree with your opinion on a hunless SPL.

Too may are quick to claim that the league is dead without them and these same people have not made an effort to do some homework.

Its obvious we would run away with it and in the long term this could be good or bad for us, But thats another story. The teams below us are probably as evenly matched as i can ever recall. Trying to predict who would finish second would be difficult. Hearts, Dundee utd and Motherwell are currently the strongest looking, but surely Hibs and Aberdeen (with new stadium) would fancy their chances. Thats 5 clubs whose support would, imo, definitely increase. As you say Billy Bhoy, us and huns take about 3/4000 to away games. All the clubs in contention for a prize they previously could only dream about, would attract the extra 3/4000 through their own fanbase (Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen easily). Therefore the 60-70000 fans the huns take away in a season would be balanced out at least. Not forgetting the feelgood factor which would return to fans of clubs who normally turn up every week to go through the motions.

And another thing..FFS how many more people are going to jump onto the Save the Huns bandwagon. First it was the Press, then Salmond, then ex pros from Hateley to Owen Coyle, now MP’s. Youd think that the club who have consistently heaped shame on Scotland throughout their history had finally overstepped the mark with their latest misdemeanor. But no, all we get is a plea for clemency and to hell with sporting integrity. I still think Platini could have the final say in all this. The SFA-SPL will be twitching nervously at the thought of UEFA getting involved and blowing apart their wee corrupt empire for good. If our own powers that be cannot administor proper justice then Scottish Football is going to hell in a handcart. And all to save the club with possibly the worst reputation in European Football.

You well know the fear I have mi amigo, and I do believe that the suits have been takling to whom it matters.

The big boys in europe want a super league, if uefa don’t deliver they will go it alone, the papers and media here and I believe the rest of europe are full of the talk, nothing in scotland as the hun are up to their knees.

We are part of the future plans of a super league, and the demise of the hun could well be to our benefit for this, it might just force uefa’s hand.

  14. Could it come to pass that the admin and HMRC fail to reach agreement and the huns go pop, but HMRC challenge Craig as creditor number one.

So the huns are gone but a newco cant start immediately because there is a long drawn out custody battle over Ibrox?

Could that happen? Tell me it could.

  15. i really need this hun debacle to come to a head soon , my jaws are killing me with all this smiling . Only time i’ve smiled more was when my daughter was born……..

  16. hen1rik , i also have that horrible feeling that they’ll somehow come through this with a few scrapes & cuts but no serious injuries.

Me….well i want that horrible disgusting club to die. They are a stain on our society.

Celtic and Arsenal will be held up as the proper way to run a football business. ;)

When Rangers crumble, the domino effect will be pretty major IMO, there is always the spectre of a spectacular stock market Crash again also which will strengthen Celtic’s position even further.

I think that’s what The Battered Bunnet was driving at earlier in his tweets on the subject, but Twitter is a limiting medium for a mhan of his erudition so I’m not sure. I’m sure he will tell us.

  19. was out tonight at a community event, and ended up next to a good friend and colleague, who has a pretty high position in the RC faith.

We had a brief chat – about work – and several laughs regarding tonight’s event.

The highlight for me was when, at the end of the night, he came back over and said …. “look!”

There, walking through the hall was a wee guy in a r*ngers strip. He looked SO wee and sheepish, he stuck out like a sore thumb!!! LOL

I wanted to ask him if he’d thought about his top when he left his “wee hoose”?

A classic end to an otherwise mundane night…. but it fair cheered me up.

Only one thing can save the huns and thats cold hard cash. Everything else is hot air. And they have had years to find the cash and all they came up with was a quid.

  21. Paul67,

If, and its a big if at this point they drag this into the political spectrum and FIFA/UEFA threaten sanctions against all Scottish clubs, what would be our likely course of action to make sure we are able to compete in next seasons CL? If we have to pay lawyers for any of this we should be claiming it back against that mob.

It will be interesting to see what happens at Westminsyre tomorrow then. I hope they do not bump into Michael Gove, the Education Secretary. I hear that today he was addressing a meeting saying that there was hope for Rangers as they had attracted the attention of a potebtial buyer– A German Billionaire living in Italy.
