When directors and creditors are one and the same

1069

Thanks to everyone who contributed questions for the Forum last night.  It was an open, frank and productive meeting.  Draft minutes will be distributed to attendees to be checked for accuracy before being formalised, after which the meeting’s outcomes will be made public through various outlets.

One thing which is evident, and goes largely unacknowledged, is the significant contribution made by Auldheid in building the channels needed for constructive dialogue between the club and supporters.  Well done, Pat.

I see Neil Lennon in the news being “flattered” after Norwich City chief exec, and former Celtic commercial director, David McNally, told the media he believed it only prudent he keeps an eye open for a new manager, should Chris Hughton ‘leave’.  Neil answered well, refused to comment on a job which is already filled, while setting a standard answer, suitable whether he was interested or not.  There is no point firmly denying interest in a job as a subsequent refusal to do so for a different position would leave too much information on the table.

McNally is right, it is only prudent you keep an eye on these things, but can you imagine how Hughton feels when reading this stuff, or what the resulting speculation will do to the club’s relegation chances?  There is now far too much information on the table now for Hughton to be effective.

A football manager needs authority and respect, Houghton has been denied both.  Norwich should do the decent thing and pay the man his contract before they sleepwalk into the lower leagues.

It’s funny how different people read the same thing in different ways.  An announcement that a club is in discussions with a couple of existing shareholders to borrow money to provide working capital is self-explanatory in most respects.

The announcement by Newco Rangers this morning establishes that the club needs a fresh injection of money to pay its bills.  We all knew this, but the sharp-eyed will also have noted that this loan will create the club’s two major creditors.  No bank will lend to Newco, their creditors will be limited to trade suppliers, HMRC and other football clubs, all pretty low values.  This £1.5m loan is likely to give the lenders sufficient control to vote through anything they desire, should administration occur.  The controlling directors and creditors will be one and the same.

Newco Rangers has been rag-dolled since its inception by various pressure groups within the broader family who seem determined to stamp on whatever green shoots of recovery exist.  What it really needs is the kind of strong leadership this directors-creditors group can provide, leaders who will do the right thing, take the necessary medicine and stand firm against the quislings.  While others tried to get the club for free, they paid their money, continue to do so, and deserve the chance to run their club as they see fit.  For what it’s worth I think the club and its current controllers are a perfect fit.  I hope they use their largest creditor status to protect their interests.

Congratulations to STV’s Peter Smith (aged 12 ½), who scooped the Royal Television Society’s Young Talent of the Year award, achieved partly because he was prepared and able to ask hard questions, when many of his elder peers would rather eat their own toe nails.  He’s still not uncovered that Dallas Cowboys email, so more work still to be done.

Auldheid from last night re Labour votes in Scotland that effected the outcome of a General Election. Twice; 1964 and Feb 1974 …. Both short-lived Parliaments; total period of Lab Govts as a result – under two years. So it would appear our Socialist brothers have never needed our help apart from these 2 occasions.

    http://wingsoverscotland.com/why-labour-doesnt-need-scotland/

    ……………………………………………

I must admit to being surprised at those figures. Since the 1920s though there have been comparatively few Labour governments compared to Conservative governments so the two occasions where Scottish Labour MPs have won the day would be quite significant in the overall scheme of things.

  6. Serious question up for debate Bhoys and Ghirls.

With the whinging that is the so called best league in the world in Engerlund after a couple of penalties go against them in their 2 CL qualifiers in the last 2 days, it is now said that on March 1st this year IFAB are going to be meeting to discuss the sending off of goalkeepers for DOGSO as they are nearly always going to be the last man.

I believe that if a goalkeeper fouls a player in the penalty area in a manner being reckless or using excessive force which therefore merits a card, then yes penalty, red card and suspension.

If however it is merely a mistimed challenge i.e. careless then a penalty will suffice.

This would impact the laws of the game but needs addressing asap I believe.

    Thoughts anyone?

Its quality not quantity that counts :l)

In a tight election the loss of certain labour seats not only make a tighter election likely but might tip the balance.

The hypocrisy at play does not sit comfortably in principle terms but self interest can usually talk itself around that.

Its not the politics that I’m interested in but how humans talk themselves into putting principles aside when they get in the way of a desired result.

  12. Auldheid you going to CQN10? An honour to buy you a dram and say thanks for your hard work and dedication. Hail Hail Hebcelt

  13. Bom dia.

    Last night’s Libertadores.

Our TV didna pick up any of the games last night, but here’s what I can glean from today’s papers…….

Defensor Sporting 4 Real Gacilaso 1

Very much against the run of play Real opened the scoring in this one. However, in the end it was really a question of how many Defensor were going to run up.

Real’s bigger worry is that they now have until Monday to present their case against Conembol’s investigation into racist chanting during their first “Home” game against Cruzeiro. Most likely punishment now seems a fine and all home games played behind closed doors. Cruzeiro (who lost that game 2-1) are advocating a total ban (cynical me says less to do with the morality of the case, than to claim back the dropped 3 pts).

Incidentally, when I looked at Real’s site this morning they had a totally massive 700 “hits” this week !

    O’Higgins 1 Deportivo Cali 0

Delighted with this win. O Higgins struggled against a well organized Cali with veteran keeper Mondragon in fine form. O Higgins finally snatched the game late with a “…formidable free kick from right back Opazo….”.

Other notable thing about this game was (obviously because of the formation furoré on OHQN the other day) the O’Higgins line-up, a boring 4-4-2.

    Bolivar 1 Leon 1

Leon showed that they’ll be no pushover in this competition and were unlucky to leave La Paz with just a point, something that very few teams can claim. Probably say’s it all about Bolivar that there best player was keeper, Quinonez.

Interesting thing about this one is that Leon bucked the preparation for altitude training normally done for playing in La Paz and flew in at the last minute. Theory being that the effects of altitude does not have sufficient time to affect performance.

    Seems to have worked.

    Two games tonight:-

    Nacional (Par) v Zamora (Ven)

The Strongest (Bol) v Universitario (Chi)

Elsewhere, Curitiba’s No.10 Alex (he used to play with Fenerbache) racked up his 1,000th professional game last night in their State Championship game against J.Malucelli. Alex scored the only goal (a penalty) in the game, where he wore the 1,000 number on his shirt (a custom which is quite common here to mark special occasions for players).

Be good to see Big Fraser wearing 1,115+ next week, but somehow or other ,canny see the SFA condoning that one.

i believe they have also increased thier fares

    a few times lately

so if any of this handout comes from the bus

    …………………………………………………….

I watched both games and to be absolutely honest, I thought both ordering offs diminished the games as a contest. Were the ordering offs deserved? Absolutely!

De Michaelis was clearly last man and denied Barca a scoring opportunity – cynical foul. The Referee was totally correct.

The Arsenal goalie brought Robben down and the action replay showed that his boot hit Robben in the shin and could have seriously injured him. The goalie was airborne at the time and had little control over how hard the contact would be between him and Robben. Did he deserve the red card. Again, imo, the referee was absolutely correct.

I would agree, however, that goalies are almost always the last man and should not automatically receive a red card. If their challenge is dangerous and could result in injury to the opponent then it should be a red card every time. The only danger, however, would be that it would then be open to interpretation and honest mistakes by the MIB up here. I could see Sevco goalies benefitting from that sort of circumstance for years to come.

  18. The Honest Cover-up on

Not sure I get the Peter Smith aged 12 and a half reference.

Is this mocking his colleagues or am I missing something?

  19. Minceyheidman,

Agree. e.g. Imagine a hypothetical situation: Scott Brown chasing Neymar to the 18 yard line in the 10th minute. He challenges from the back but hardly touches Neymar, Neymar goes down as if he’s been shot.

Result : Red card, penalty scored and down to 10 men for > 80 minutes.

Alternatively : Let the player go on untouched to score. Play the >80 minutes with 11 men.

    Food for thought indeed.

PS : With the use of acronym ‘s have you or did you work for Shell by any chance.? Excuse my ignorance or stupidity if you like but what does IFOB and DOGSO stand for ?

    Quick post.

I see a couple of posters stating a concern that Tony Donnelly is being bullied on here.

Firstly, I’d like to point out that the reson that I first noticed him on here was because of him posting the personal financial details of a woman who doesn’t post on CQN so would be in no position to defend herself.

His comments about her were insulting and completely uncalled for. He attacked her profesionally all because he was unhappy with things that she had said about Celtic. If Tony had had a go at what she had said about Celtic and not highlighted aspects of her personal life then I would have been prepared to let it go. He didn’t and so I wouldn’t.

He then made a cheap and snidey remark that she’d ‘never make it on to page 3’. The fact that a respected poster on here felt the need not only to repost it but to say that it made him laugh genuinely turned my stomach.

I implored him to desist as ‘one Celtic supporter to another’ but this was thrown back in my face.

Tony habitually plays the martyr, victim, woe is me card on CQN and subsequently this has now led to some posters feeling the need to call this out.

Fair enough. However, never have I been a bully and never will I be one.

I retorted in a poor manner both last night and earlier today because he once again got personal but this time it was directed at me. I should have ignored this as worthless and avoidance; I will do in future.

Because, you see, I only posted in reply to what I perceived to be his bullying in the first place.

    Tony D

I apologise. I really don’t like you and I know that you feel the same but I seriously think that for the benefit of CQN we now completely ignore one another.
