White shirted fitness freaks arrive at Training Centre

911

Fixtures are out and the management team are in-situ at Bobbylennoxtown; the air of anticipation for a new chapter in a 126-year-old story lies heavy over Celtic supporters.  I wish we were starting tomorrow.

If you are a Celtic player, what would your overbearing sentiment be today?  If it was me, looking at photos of those two white-shirted fitness freaks at the Training Centre today, I’d be tempted to get out for a run, before the real business starts next week.

There are only a few things a manager can do in his first few days in charge of a new squad but setting standards for fitness and training are two clear examples.  Monitoring is not just about stepping on the scales anymore, the players will have their body fat, glycogen levels and heart beats documented from when they get back and throughout the season thereafter.  With benchmarks for all, as well as performances.  I’m feeling tired even thinking about it.

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his book, All the Best.

I would tend to agree that fitness is certainly an area where there is room for improvement. Recovery from injuries another, though better refereeing would probably have more of an impact there. Elsewhere, lifestyle decisions need to improve. I was shocked last season, not so much to discover that footballers attended a nightclub in er Prestwick, but that there was a nightclub in Prestwick in the first place!

  2. Chile showed the way last night.

Even if we can’t buy their quality, there is no reason our team of young players cannot outmatch the speed, fitness and pressing of more expensive CL teams.

I think Churchill said something similar.

Fitness..good thing to make to make unfit players fitter

Does it make crap players less crap

Making most of our foward options fitter would be irrelevant unless they improve their skill level …

We`ll require more than fitness in Europe

Will JC be able to find that illusive £6m player…you know the one we have the money for but just havent bought yet

  11. Nae worries for the Sevco players getting back to training when they look over and see Ally and his side-kick still scoffing pies.

    Pecentage body fat ?

Dr Dolittle would refuse to audit it until a whole list of conditions were met…

  12. I will agree that JC was and apparently still is one fit guy, but when he was a player at CP it was his fitba ability that i appreciated most. Not his ability to run a 4 minute mile or something like that.

Im sorry gentlemen but for me its fitba ability first and fitness second

and i dont think that our side were particularly unfit last year anyway

    I dont buy it!

Just seen the BBC link from this morning .I would say thats a very rare story thats critical of the Israeli government. Occasionally a rogue journalist will slip in a report that goes against currant US-UK policy. Its usually quickly withdrawn from following news programmes. Even in that link the Palestinian had to be a christian for them to report it in a sympathetic light. All the big international crisis’s are not covered with even the slightest attempt at balance. With the conflicts in Ukraine ,Syria ,Iraq, Libyia ,Afganistan where the US-UK have bloody hands theyve been telling blatant porkies. We are living in the most media manipulated era ever and the BBC is the worst. If your wanting some balance and a little truth you have to find it elsewhere.

Good luck on the bird watching, enjoy the birdwatching before it becomes common knowledge, then we can hit the toon wae acgr :)

  22. Was dropping off a few hundred extra copies of the (fast selling) Seville book at Celtic Park early this morning.

The outside of the stadium is being transformed for the Games.

Anyway the chap from the Celtic warehouse was loading a van and I helped him. Turns out in was the new kit for the first team and it was on its way to BobbyLennoxtown!

Apparently our new manager had made a great impression with the staff. Yesterday he went round each and every department, introduced himself personally and took an interest in the jobs people were doing.

If I’d have been a day earlier could have sold him a Seville book!

    TnT,

Dropped you a quick e-mail – would appreciate if you could send on any stats you get which could help me out (I need plenty of help :-) )

For example I had chosen Tac De Boistron, which your data pretty much tells me not to and it is now a non-runner !!!!

Had a decent day yesterday with 2 places from my 3 e/w bets (Sea shanty & Wee Jean), plus had them on a small e/w Trixie. Then had Chile to win in the evening ;-)

My 3 win bets were not so good with two of them finishing 2nd and the other nowhere :-(
