Wishful transfer thinking, broken Hearts

953

Celtic have been linked with a whole barrage of players over the last 24 hours, strongly linked in some instances.  While it is more fun to drool over players coming in than fret as existing players leave the club, I’m very sure that some of the reports floating around right now are the product of wishful thinking on the part of agents trying to place their players with a top European club.

For each player you read about, two others will be under consideration, and remember the golden rule, if players or agents are talking publicly, they are not talking to Celtic.  It’s easy to generate screeds of column inches for you, or your client, with a few well-chosen phrases.

Ukio Bankas statement this morning that current bids for the assets of Hearts which they hold security over, specifically Tynecastle Stadium, scene of Scotland’s most famous non-assault, do not meet their valuation presents real challenge to the club.  Hearts are a club capable of generating in the region of £10m.  Operating the club on a budget this size will be difficult, raising enough cash to satisfy Ukio Bankas might be impossible.

Unlike the situation last year with Rangers, when Craig Whyte secured an irrevocable undertaking upon liquidation to transfer Ibrox Stadium to Sevco 5088 Ltd, Ukio Bankas liquidators are unlikely to reject a CVA but accept a lower bid for Tynecastle.  Without a stadium, a Newco is unlikely.  The best Hearts fans could be faced with is going “Cap in hand”, as they sing down Easter Road, to Hibs, with a request for Newco to ground-share.

Wallace Mercer was ahead of his time. Flats, flats……….

  6. I’ve checked back on reaction to Mark Daly’s documentary on BBC1 and I remain deeply disappointed. No real reaction on CQN and yet if a “hun” ref gives a bad decision here are pages and pages of comment. I accept that a guy who made negative comment later retracted and I respect his action. But where is the disgust at the Church’s behaviour on CQN? Where is the praise for the serving PP at KIlwinning who spoke up against the attitudes and behaviour of his “superiors” in the Church.

Maybe I’m being unreasonable – this was so damning and convincing evidence that we all need time to reflect.

Child abuse is obviously not an exclusively catholic thing,it exists in all societies

The common factor is vulnerable children, where there are vulnerable children with no one to defend or speak up for them (e.g.orphans) there will be evil people ready to prey onthem

    Thomthetim

Personally I think the child abuse scandals that have rocked irish society in the last 20 years have effectively finished the Catholic Church as an organistation of any influence in the republic of ireland

The moral compass they once provided has been removed and a vacuum exists

  9. TBJ,

Caught your comment about Fort Augustus Abbey school.

My younger brother was a pupil at the school in the early 60s.

He was subjected to severe corporal punishment on many occasions.

He was in 1st year at the time, and it all happened between the summer restart and Christmas.

he was allowed to phone home once a month and he told our parents about a pretty nasty beating he had suffered.

My dad shut his shop, drove to Fort Agustus and took my brother home .

he was not there 6 months, perhaps if he had stayed there, the abuse would have changed from physical to whatever.

Truly this is the stuff of nightmares

timgreen – Paul’s blog does meander into many and varied subjects, but it is essentially a site for discussion on Celtic FC and the environment it exists in.

Maybe you’re on the wrong site for the debate you seek?

timgreen the subject matter of the docu has been discussed at length on this blog over the last few days and the actions and inaction have been universally been condemned.

Terrible, evil abuse of children has been endemic across all Christian churches, sadly.

    #####

The fact is that the RC Church got it wrong in that the decision was taken to hide/deflect these allegations rather than meet them head on. This is something which will never be repeated but the fact remains that the Institution thought that it was more important to protect the institution rather than accept that there was people involved who were capable of deviant behaviour.

We should never accept the excuse that ‘…it happened years ago’ or ‘…that was the way it was then’

    Deviancy thrives in secrecy.

Difference in Scotland is we are still to an extent not accepted and welcome whereas in Ireland the church had power.

Although I have commented on the child abuse scandal within the Church, as have others, you should remember that this is primarily a Celtic site and not a Catholic site. Many of the posters on here are not Catholics and many have no religious affinity. By not commenting on the scandal they may be exercising sensitivity towards Catholic Celtic supporters who are affronted that these criminals got away with their crimes and that the Church hierarchy did little or nothing to bring them to justice or to offer comfort to the victims.

Are you for real? This is a site about a football team called Celtic who are open to all religions. You’ll not find anybody that isn’t disgusted by the revelations but if you want an in depth discussion on the topic, want to read details of child abuse and condemnation of the catholic church instead of a discussion about celtic, our rivals or football in general then you’ll feel at home on ff.

Yes there is that difference between the church in Ireland and Scotland

  20. wits,

    I can’t disagree with that.

However, I do believe that people need a spiritual dimension and a feeling that they are part of a community.

As such, I think that there will be a spiritual Renaissance in the country.

    How long will it take?

    I don’t know.

The vacuum of which you speak does exist, but, it will be filled.

Are you kidding??? I was a mess even before I got out of Mass. Turned up in sharp grey suit, crisp white shirt and smart red tie. The heat was unbelievable! All the guys had the jackets off and the sweat was running out of us. As soon as we got outside St. Pat’s the ties were dispensed with and we ran for the cars to turn on the air conditioning.

Do you remember Fr. Sweeney from St. Bridget’s? He celebrated the Mass. He’s an old friend of my wife and I. He also officiated at my Da’s funeral in Moodiesburn back in 1992. Great Ghuy.
