Withdraw Ibrox safety licence as they withdraw moral hazard

204

What happens if you provide cover for a fan who threw shards of glass onto the Ibrox goalmouth before Joe Hart plays in goal?  It happens again.  When this occurred two years ago, Newco told Celtic their CCTV system did not cover the area the shards were thrown from.  The perpetrator was not identified and faced no consequences.  There is no moral hazard to this behaviour.

Matt O’Riley was the one who had consequences to deal with, when a bottle was thrown at him on Sunday from the same area.  Missiles were also thrown at Celtic staff in the technical area from the Ibrox main stand, echoing a similar incident two years ago.

You and I have seen enough to know that if you get any 50,000 people together you will get several hundred idiots.  Every club has idiot supporters.  What’s different is that some clubs and their supporters inhibit criminal behaviour by a combination of CCTV, self-policing, and fellow supporters upholding standards.  Others do not take the steps to prevent criminal behaviour from becoming a regular feature.

Celtic, their players, staff, directors and supporters (when 700 were last admitted to Ibrox) are unprotected at Ibrox by the home club, police of football authorities.  Newco even went as far as to inform broadcasters they cannot guarantee the safety of Celtic players working at the stadium – a tacit approval of this behaviour.

Two years ago, when CCTV was not produced, Police Scotland should have objected to the stadium licence and Glascow City Council should have withdrawn it.  But this is Scotland, this is Glasgow, so nothing will be done.

If it is established that Sunday’s referee, John Beaton, was not shown the camera angle of Alistair Johnston getting a touch on the ball before contact was made with Meryl Streep-Silva, the SFA’s entire VAR system should be wiped out and a fresh start made.

Beaton awarded a penalty, which brought the home club back into the game and ultimately earned them a point.  A penalty can be awarded if “the defending player gets the ball first and the officials deem the tackle to be careless, reckless or has excess force.”  None of these conditions were met.

We’ll await to see what the SFA say, but if VAR is withholding crucial video from the referee, sack every one of them without delay.

The family of longtime CQN’er, Ron Bacardi have been in touch to let me know Ron  – Brian McGinley – passed away.  Brian’s funeral takes place at 11.00 this Friday, 12 April, in Penrith.  His friends can watch the service here, with login details:

I think Ron Bacardi is the name on the bottle. I’m sad I only met Brian once because he had a dry sense of humour. I was on the receiving end of a few one liners. 😂

P67- we had a physio seriously assaulted at Poundland by a bottle, wee Health and Safety protocols carried out, this man was at his place of work, was there a H&S Investigation? A RIDDOR Report logged? The place is clearly unsafe.

  4. Was disappointed (again) with Fraser Wishart interview re missiles being thrown.

He seems to be very passive when it comes to sevco failings and misbehaviour

Glad he’s not my Union Rep

To the family and friends of Ron Bacardi condolences. Candle shall be lit at Clonard Monastery, Belfast before 6:15 Mass.

So, a glass bottle thrown at a player, whilst carrying out his duties as a paid employee of Celtic Football Club.Coin(s) hurled at the Celtic dug out, housing Celtic FC employees. My view, is that Celtic Football Club should NOT allow those, attached to Newco, a place at Celtic Park in future meetings. They are not to be trusted at all, their past record is all so clear.A packed Celtic Park, with Celtic fans is ideal…’they’ are not wanted.Would you invite trouble makers to your house for a party?

  7. “The court must ensure that this grave conduct at events such as this is discouraged and the public protected”

Sheriff Tom Kelly, March 2023, jailing bottle thrower for 12 months. The Celtic physio was injured in the incident which happened at Ibrox April 2022.

Well even a jail sentence will not deter that kind of behaviour at Ibrox.

As others on here have stated already the first thing the Celtic Board must make is to reverse our decision viz a viz tickets at Ibrox and for their supporters attending Celtic Park. I would go further though and state that we will propose changes to the SPL fixture list to ensure we only play one league game at Ibrox every season. That would send the message that playing them is no more important than playing any other team. Or of course we can continue to illustrate our commitment to that particular fixture,

Sky TV will insist on 4 Glesga Derby games, they got 1.4m watching Sunday ‘s game

I only knew Brian from his time on CQN, but it was clear he was a very well respected individual.

    Condolences to all his family.

  10. Celtic can moan all they like to the fans, media, sfa, spfl,, police, council etc. we all know that ultimately, fck all will get done. As for cheating officials, ditto.

But all is not lost. Fans can start the process by declining tickets for domestic cup matches, including home, and especially hampden. Trust me, you will soon see changes. Is this workable? Probably not. Too many supporters enjoy a day out and a right good bevvy. They could never agree to this, or ever see the bigger picture.

Yes 4 months but speculation has taken off again, I suppose that was the reason for the article.

Sky should be chased and they can stuff their Glasgow derby contract up their rear. Doncaster is on a 2 year guarantee notice period, what a state football here is in, 2 year notice payment in full, who’re the mugs that allowed and agreed this?

  12. There could be 10.4 million watching the fixture but that would not mitigate the risk currently facing our players and staff every time we go to Ibrox. Closing Ibrox down would, playing the games behind closed doors would and reducing the number of times we have to play there would.

Watching it on Sky TV most certainly will not. Hiding behind those numbers does not work for me.

    That’s snowflake central.

Our safety as fans at games has always been taken for granted. How many of you were in the Janefield St crush back in the day and remember the police charging through on their horses. Or when we were crushed at the top of the stairs trying to get into the 1988 cup final at Hampdump. when no one had notified the fans that the gates had been moved to the top of the hill. Rangers will get a warning and that is that. They will talk about their everyone included neon signs and what more can we do shite!!! I hope I am wrong but we have seen this scenario unfold before.

RIP Brian McGinley, CQN has lost some good ones over the years. We may disagree with each other at times, but we are still handsome Celtic supporting folks.

DESSYBHOY- Doncaster used a Recruitment company to get the Cinch deal, and they got a couple of hundred grand I believe, that’s his job…..don’t think we have a main sponsor for next year, as Sevco gave Cinch grief over a lot of nonsense and they walked away a year early, meanwhile all the clubs lose.

It hurts my heart to read about Ron Bacardi’s death, one of many past CQN blog posters with Clydebank years stamped into his life’s passport. May God comfort his family and friends.

I’m confident this town by the river will keep sending its Celts up the road to Paradise, long after we’ve all joined Ron.

Sorry to read the sad news about Ron Bacardi.

I never met Brian but always enjoyed his contributions on CQN.

He always came across as a good contributor and is another sad loss to our on line community.

    BRRB,

You are making me very jealous being in the most beautiful place in the world, Donegal.

I haven’t been there since 1993, but used to spend every summer of my childhood in Kerrykeel.

I am sitting in my classroom in Alabama, mind wandering back to Portsalon, Downings, and Carrigart. Fish and chips in the Milford Inn, and then back to my uncle Hughie’s bar in Kerrykeel, Shields bar. Beautiful little village with more bars than shops:)), though John Kerr’s shop was always very nice. Playing the puggy machines in Mr. McGinley’s grocers, jeez I’m homesick:((((

And how many Celtic supporters were in Janefield Street on September 2nd 2018?

That crush was the direct result of decisions made by the Celtic Board (in conjunction with GCC and Police Scotland) to bend over backwards to accomodate 792 away supporters attending that day’s ‘Old Firm’ match.

And no “Independent” report will whitewash that fact away.

I am beginning to wonder how we should decribe the risks and injuries incurred when we go to Ibrox?

    How about collateral damage?

  20. I first met Ron on here and it turned out we were both Tradamus Lampada FPs, we were also both booked up for a trip to Paris with our French teacher which fell apart due tae they pesky Algerians and their plastic bombs.

I never knew his name but now on reading it still no sure who he was as there were more than a few McGinley’s in Clydebank, in fact I was at school with one of them but he came fae Dalmuir while Ron was fae Whitecrook which is the opposite end of the Dumbarton Road spectrum.

I did read about his illness on here but he never dwelled on it, all the same rest in peace Ron and another candle lit at Holy Mass the night.

*absolutely not only will it hit them where it hurts but we are the biggest club in the country and one of the biggest in Europe so it will grab huge media attention.

  22. Has there ever been the equivalent of a Celtic Supporters Union enabling us to act more effectively in terms of boycotting, for example, a Cup game, to ram home a point?
