Alexandro Bernabei was finally announced as a Celtic player by former club, Lunas, in the early hours of this morning. At 21, the left back is the same age Greg Taylor was when he joined the club in 2019.
The environment Alexandro worked in at Lanus could hardly be more different than what he walks into at Celtic. Lunas won only three of the last 20 league games their former defender played in, including his final game, which saw Alexandro red carded. The pressure to win was significantly less than in Glasgow.
That factor possibly permits young talent more scope to flourish; teams stuck somewhere in the no man’s land that is lower midtable of a 26-team league, need not stress about winning or losing too much. Even relegation is a multi-year process in Argentina, no one season alone can put you down.
One year before Alexandro’s contract expired, the reported £3.75m fee is a discount on the money Lanus earned when selling a central defender to Parma last year for €10m, or a midfielder to Atlanta for €6m in 2020. Hopefully that discount is due more to the expiring contract than any perception of the player’s prospects.
Welcome to Celtic, Alexandro! There is a lot of hard work ahead, but it is great to see Celtic work the globe to fine value. Contrast with the days we travelled the M8 to find Chris Killen could scarcely be greater.

The way I see it, we don`t `need` anyone else to win the Title and the quality gap in the CL is too big for even a player outwith our financial range to make any difference.

Another Centre Halve and a defensive midfielder look to be the remaining bits of the jigsaw once Jota deal is announced . However Walsh & Dane Murray are a year older and Ange ma want to take a look at Bosun Lawal.
Hopefully Murray, Lawal & some of the younger Brigade like Rocco will be given a bit of game time during pre season games, Also I would like to see Urhoghide get a chance, thought he had a bit of potential certainly has the physique,
Probably best for all if Jullien moves on but if he doesn’t then we should use him, he is a decent centre halve and we do need cover there.

In the grand scheme of setting records, João Pedro Neves Filipe pales into insignificance compared to Jacynta Prema de Nieva Galabadaarachchi, in the longest name category. She must be a Celtic legend for that alone.
Stephen Welsh will be 23 years old this season. Needs game for his own development. Currently sits down the pecking order behind CCV and Starfelt. A new CH is likely to be a partner for CCV and Welsh would be No. 4.
Ange doesn’t tend to deviate much on CH partnerships. Julien seen that.
Ergo, Welsh needs to move on for his own sake. Murray or even Lawall need to be that young aspiring No. 4 in the pecking order next season.

SW is 22 with a lot of ability to become a top class CB.
Unfortunately he regressed last season when he was not playing so that when he did get a game he did not look as comfortable as he did at the start of the season or even the season before.
He desperately needs regular game time to develop.
I don’t think he is going to get it with us — if we are going to bring in a new CB this season I would hope that they were being bought to start in front of either CCV or CS.
That leaves SW in a very poor position — not good enough to rely on with the possibility that he will regress without regular football which we cannot give him.
Chicken and egg situation — I think that a loan would be best if he is not considered capable of starting the season in front of either CCV or CS.
His style of play is very similar to CCV — relies on strength not his height to impose his physique on the opposition attacker / manage the space so he could learn a lot from CCV.
However there is learning on the training pitch vs regression due to a lack of real football — difficult conundrum.
Just a case that after a couple of months on the bench last season he looked like Bambi on Ice when he finally got a game — not good.
Loan for me and work with BL / DM — games for the B team / train with the first team squad.
OU is the outlier — he is 22 as well but he seems to have done well out on loan.
He might improve training with better players but not getting much game time.

A question for those with a better understanding of these things (I know maybe not many on this site) is this what the rapture feels like?
The way things are going, someday soon we’ll not have anything left to argue about.
Plus if we manage to sort out the first team could we please bring in some new blood for the B team?
Last season there looked to be a bit of talent on display but too little drive / energy — the new coaches will make a huge difference but I think there are gaps in the squad and too often we were playing 17 year olds who were even more off the pace.
17yr olds — yes if they are exceptional talents.
17yr olds — no if they are just filling a jersey / still growing up.
My thoughts are that the B Team should be 19/20yr olds.
If they cannot shine in the Lowland League at that age then they aren’t good enough for us.
