You did this in 2013

1233

Yet again during 2013 we asked you to put your hand in your pocket and you responded as only Celtic fans do.  You raised £6000 before and during the focus of our summer fundraising activity, the annual golf day.  £4500 of this went towards the 1254125 Appeal, which during the year did an enormous amount to anchor the club and support right back to where we came from.  Clic Sargent, who help children with cancer, also benefited at that time.

Thanks also to those who sponsored my 10k at the Great Scottish Run in October to the tune of £1552.  Times remain tight for many, so I the value of your support.

Perhaps the biggest response all year came from the commitment we made to Mary’s Meals to build and kit a kitchen at the Kholoni Primary School in Malawi.  1200 kids are registered at the school but there are no catering facilities, so students go hungry, or simply don’t go to school at all.  Pablophanque’s family sent on the £4500 support they received in 2011 to the appeal, while 470 people booked a seat at the CQteN St Patrick’s Day dinner, with more on the waiting list.  The work we’ll achieve in 2014 will be incredible.

This place can stress and annoy sometimes but it has become a great window into the soul of the Celtic support.

Have a great Christmas and thank you for all your support.

    Good morning all.

Not sure where to begin with all this flag business in fact my head is bursting with it all. For what it’s worth my take on it is this.

If Celtic were complicit in banning our support from taking flags and banners to the St Johnstone game then there is something fundamentally wrong in the corridors of power at Celtic Park. They must have known that the supporters would react to this and see it as clear victimisation of our support from an all to willing police force. In my opinion whoever made this decision should be sacked no matter how high up the pecking order they sit.

If someone unbelievably called the wrong club about lifting the ban sack this incompetent fool.

Now if and I hope this is the truth that no one from Celtic had anything to do with this ban then the Celtic Board must come out now in the strongest terms and defend our support to the hilt. They also need to ask the questions of the police why it is only our support that are being systematically targeted. Why did they (police scotland) not target Aberdeen fans wrecking seats at Celtic Park or Motherwell fans doing likewise at Hamilton. Is it one rule for us and one for all others. Never mind the weekly songs and banners on display carried out by a third tier football club.

What I do know is that I love Celtic but if the board do not stand shoulder to shoulder with our support on this then I am not sure that the board of Celtic see my club the way I do and I would then question my support of the board not the team.

I gave up travelling to away games a long time ago my last away game was Seville however I would suggest that to all our Bhoys and Ghirls who do travel to the away games seriously consider attending this game. Starve any club who support a ban on your flags and banners of your hard earned cash. Starve the police of your hard earned cash and if our club are complicit in this then starve them also. By all means go to Celtic Park and support the team but do not buy anything from their outlets.

If you do go to this game on Thursday then be an example of how a support should be sing Celtic songs cheer on our Bhoys but absolutely no flares or pyros please. Do not give the police smsm sfa government or even our own people on the board another stick to beat us.

Merry Christmas to All posters, This site hasn’t been as much fun as it used to be with lots of points of contention and as a result I’ve not been as much, hard for the soul to watch us fight and bicker and accuse each other of false allegiances, The season of Good will is upon us, let’s put all the petty guff away and act like Celtic Fans and get our well earned reputation back.

  14. So if flags are allowed what do we think our intelligentsia will come up with on Boxing day?

Kitalba, This country wrestles with what sectarianism actually is mainly because it can’t deal with it’s past. The real History being taught in all of our schools would go some way to educating folk. Modern society doesn’t tolerate racism and sectarianism but it lacks the education behind it.

That means it’s still legitimate to confuse and conflate matters. Just as we are doing with the current flag issue.

An Edinburgh Jury – case in point. The guy was charged with a sectarian crime. He was found not guilty on those grounds. It was a mistake to not just charge him with plain old assualt. There may be more to this as I have heard the jury could still have found him guilty of assault. Neil Lennnon was and has been demonised by the media. Hes an Irish Catholic with a typically strong attitude.

the OB Act – A joke piece of legislation put in place because there were some folk getting over excited at a football game in 2011. The misguided view was that something needed to be done about this sectarianism. Again this was done with no understanding of the real issues. I don’t agree with singing or praising the provos but I don’t think folk should be arrested for it. Football should have been given powers to deal with this internally without this becoming a legal matter. I like the way that Holland deal with racism. Again though football people in Scotland could not be trusted to deal with this with an even hand. If the Government wanted something done they should have held that educated and properly qualified folk were put in place at the SFA to enforce penalties on Celtic, Rangers, Hearts.

There is nothing Legally wrong with singing about the IRA the provos, Bobby Sands etc but i don’t want to go to Celtic Park and have to explain to my 6 year old. We need to know about our History but not through deliberately antagonistic actions at a football game. My ancestors fought hard for parity. I don’t expect to turn up at my football ground to have a skewed view on history forced down my throat for the sake of getting it up a dead rival.

if I want my son educated I will ask the school to do it or give him my thoughts.

No flag – People are seeing this as an attack on the Irish tricolour. Lets not get confused here. They are stating that this is all flags. We want to believe that they are attacking our civil liberties – attacking the Irish, attacking the green etc. I think it is a reasonable statement to make that people are using the flags and banners as cover to light the pyros. Any other reason would be downright stupid.

    ###

The guy faced two charges. Breach of the peace and assault. Both were aggravated ie they both involved sectarianism.

The jury deleted the sectarian part of the breach charge and convicted for simple breach.

The point is that the jury knew they could have done the same with the assault charge, but chose not to do so.

  19. The Honest Cover-up on

Gosh, who’d have thought the issue of waving flags at a football game could dominate Scottish front and back pages for the best part of 3 days. A complete embarrassment for everyone involved.

It just outlines the contempt Scottish football fans are held in today.

In the middle of a recession where we’re told clubs are living hand to mouth supporters paying £26 to give up family time to sit in the cold to watch a game are being treated like primary school kids. The St Johnstone statement is so condescending. “You can’t take flags, ok you can take flags but you had better be on your best behaviour OR ELSE”

About time the police started COMMUNICATING with supporters (people who pay their taxes and expect a service from them) instead of these confrontational tactics they’ve been using since Salmond’s ridiculous law came in.
