  1. Wonder if the players would benefit from some body language/reaction training when they commit fouls.

thinking back to Emelios’s red card, he is imploring thr referee not to send him off. Now I’m not saying he wasn’t due the card, or wouldn’t have received it, but standing over your victim with the bloodied dagger…..

In another day running back into position showing no emotion, is the smart move.

  2. Delaneys,

aye you canny beat a nice refreshing Crabbies after a curry,

I will let you buy me a couple at the hootenanay

    “We were stinking tonight.”……………….

    Just unbelievable statement to make.

Stunning that you can describe that performance as “stinking”

Possibly it was just down to one piece of quality. But for me there were Celtic players and a goal keeper who were in a position to deal with it.

On another note. Why did Izzie not receive a free kick and goal keeper booked when Craig gordon took him out? :)

I’m happy with final result but based on game I’m disappointed (not gutted like Malmo) at having dropped 2 points.

  5. BT sport just spent 25 mins on the English teams in their roundup programme.

    Celtic five minutes.

Celtic probably had the best result in Europe of any British teams in Euroe.

    Bring on Liverpool or Spurs.

  6. Ronny still has a lot to learn. I see signs sometimes that he is learning, like tonight’s game plan and setup, and others like the decision to leave Izzie on I see as a sign of an apprentice.

  7. Empathetic passing — passing with a degree of empathy for the person you are passing to.

Too many of our passes are just hoofs in the general direction of a team mate with little consideration for their field position or the position of any opponents.

How many times was ML given the ball out wide with an Ajax player or two covering the angles fo a pass towards the centre of the pitch leaving him a 270 degree turn to his left and an aimless hoof up the touch line to no-one in particular.

DB — you know what I am talking about.

How many passes to a team mate under pressure were the hurriedly returned to the ordinal player with interest and an opposition player close by.

NB aka “Chopstick legs” — you know what I am talking about.

  8. Logging off, but it’s not really about if the glass is half full or half empty. As long as there is something in the glass.

Or in laymans terms the glass half full person is confident that the barman is still serving.

    HH to all.

  9. Clogher Celt,

when Delaneys says he will be there with bells on,he really means it,

wears some right dodgy outfits does that bhoy

Gordon’s tackle on Izzy was perfectly fair!! :-)

I don’t like zonal marking but I think that their second goal would have been scored regardless what system was employed.

Remember, no one else touched the ball after it was taken so marking the goal scorer is a misnomer.

Only you would have saved that. However, if you’d taken it, Ronny would have been cowering :-)

  11. DD,

Early bird flight on the Saturday, late night on the Tuesday.

Got a great price and will give me some time for family too.

I tried ginger beer once when I was 5. Never again. Poison drink I thought. Made my throat tighten and I spewed. Will happily buy you several Crabbies tho. Horse & Barge was bouncing tonight.

Ones named Ronny. Ones named Frank. Was the song of choice tonight. :))

    We were very poor tonight.

Ever weakness, every foible, every bad habit was on show.

No physicality — bullied by another no-mark CF.

No on field intelligence — just get rid of the ball to any one anywhere.

No off field intelligence — EI was a cert for a red after the first booking.

No desire or hunger — too many times on the ground claiming a foul that was never going to come.

They are a poor team and we made them look good.

We were stinking — some passages of play were just too bad to watch.

    Currently playing like children.

  14. Big Cup Winners,

    I’ll bear that in mind.

    Thank’s for the heads up.

Tonight’s game and away to Qarabag Ronny set out his team to do a job, get a result, not get beat. And we played ok in both those games, don’t know why he didn’t do this away to Malmo. Principals I guess.

Beckham scored an identical free kick against Slovakia (I think, Snake could confirm) and all the Engerland commentators were salivating over it – it happens sometimes.

Was impressed with the solid (most of the time) 2 banks of midfield and defence tonight, just a pity Izzy had a rush of blood – he could have been sent off a couple of minutes earlier ! Pleased for Efe tho’…solid when he came on.

    Result — fair point.

We have been in this situation before.

However I struggle to see where the improvement is going to come from without major and long lasting surgery.

Very worried at CG’s loss of form.

The reactions are still there but not the positioning or the commanding presence.

Very slow and weak at the first goal.

    Shambolic at the second.

I agree, Efe deserves credit where credits due.

On that performance he could become a regular at CQN 5 s :-)

  19. The last time I recall we lost a goal like their second tonight was when Magnus Hedman was between the sticks, against Bayern.

Now I could be totally wrong, but it was a peach of a ball in.

As for the referee tonight, feckin shocking, some of the stuff he let them away with was seriously scottish.

I wasn’t just basing my judgement of stones marking on goal lost but also other set pieces and corners. You have a point re. goal lost. Again I lay part of blame at CG’s door. His starting position was perfect.

KC needs to start every game. What he offers far outweighs his negatives. His offensive play is superb and negates his defensive frailties and poor passing at times. Yet with his poor passing he still pulls out of the pokey outstanding defence splitting passes and dinks. As well as being the only corner kick taker we have of note.

Normally I’m very tolerant of opposing views on performances from players, it’s all about how individuals see the game and we do see things differently.

I don’t ever recall you saying anything positive about Celtic.

If you’d like to do something other than spout on CQN, let me know and I’ll put you in touch with groups who’d appreciate your views. You would though need to display a love of Celtic which isn’t evident so far.

  22. Clogher Celt,

not sure if the last post was for me,

yes I will be there ,no bells on mind you,

    just jeans and a shirt

  23. The Huddle.

Agreed. I feel at times he plays to the fans and the notion that we should always be an attacking team. Again I can only judge on his performances with Celtic. I don’t know what his performances and team setup a were like prior to coming to club. It may just be that that is the way he prefers the game to be played. So my judgement of him is a personal one and mag be wide of the mark.

  24. Re their second goal,

sure that Chelsea scored a similar one last night,

that kind of ball is torture for a keeper who has to expect

that someone will get a touch to it,

  25. Madmitch.

I think the reality lies in between. There was some shockingly poor passing from individual players at times tonight when we were on the offensive. But in general the setup and how it was actioned by the players for 95% of the game was spot on. Sadly when lacking for the 5% we lost 2 goals to a quality forward line.

Fat Frank Lampard scored many goals for Chelsea similar to the Ajax one tonight, it’s tough to defend but not impossible. A guy drops to the back post at the last minute and the keeper is more savy.
