Mulgrew call signals primacy ahead of Efe and Dedryck

612

With the arrival of Dedryck Boyata, Jozo Simunovic and Erki Sviatchenko over the last 12 months, Charlie Mulgrew must have wondered if he would be offered a new contract which his current deal expires next month. Especially so considering how little football he’s played in recent years.

An incoming manager would be excused for looking at his squad and thinking Charlie was surplus to requirements, but, as we have touched on in recent weeks, the story of Celtic’s defence is more complicated.

Erik has been an unqualified success, but Jozo missed most of the season through injury, while Dedryck and Efe Ambrose suffered unfortunate (cough) spells of form. Charlie is a few years past his Player of the Year prime, but he’s a reliable consistent defender, who I’d have in the team before Efe or (Euros bound) Dedryck.

We have a bloated squad and need to move players on, but it’s no surprise Brendan Rodgers let Charlie know he wanted him to stay. He’s the right player to occupy third or fourth spot in the central defensive roster.  We’ll wait and see if Jozo can grab second spot.

Weasily statement from Stewart Robertson (“at least 6 were assaulted”).

    ==============================

Wrong, mate. He actually stated, verbatim :

‘In EXCESS of 6 were assaulted.’

Meaning? 7? 8? 9? 10? EVERYONE?! EVERYWHERE?! BURN THEM ALL! BURN THE WORLD!

Or something along those lines. You know what they’re like…

  2. I have looked at all the vids that are available to the general public re the hampden stuff.

Bar a few Hibies goading the huns and a couple jossling a couple of the hun players they did nothing untoward imo.

Taunting and goading is part and parcel of football, had the huns not entered the pitch there would have been no fighting, that is a FACT.

But when did the truth ever matter in scotland when the hun are involved.

    Where’s Warbie ???????

  3. Biffing the The Huns will be (more) important next season.

Cha Mul Gru will help that……………

    I’m Chu Ffed,

……..there’s gonna be a show an’ he’s gonna be there.

I like your thinking regarding letting the young guns loose and hopefully we will get a few more of them being trusted with a place after Kieran Tierney’s exploits but they will be doing everything and anything they can to stop us as we have seen so i want us to go out there in every game on an absolute mission to render the cheating b’s helpless and to drill home just how much better we are this coming season as its huge.

Their wee journey is probably quite close to what they believe to be their utopia and they are hell bent on getting there but we are a green, white n gold juggernaut coming the other way and when we smash them aside the reality of it will have well and truly hit home.

Once that has been done and they have dispersed leaving them with a fraction of their support and Brendan has got his 1st season under his belt here and time to get things more as he wants…….yeah……bring the young ones through then and maybe do just what you suggest by letting a whole team of them loose in the cups……with Kieran as the old head and skipper!

  5. For those wanting information on the workings of Celtic Park in the off season, follow the very accommodating @rbuchanan1964, our stadium manager, on Twitter.

He is very gracious and prompt in answering any of our questions when he surfaces.

Currently some very interesting pictures on the standing area and pitch to be seen.

  6. Interesting stuff on Warby today. In the morning Radar was trumpeting his “double-yer-money” contract which would be signed ” in a week or 2, when he returns from holiday”.

This afternoon, Robertson was saying how in demand he was and that they’d have to do something to keep him.

Which is it? Contract agreed? Or not?

Warburton is no fool. He has come north to make a bit of a rep for himself before trying his luck in England. At his age he doesn’t have time to waste. Getting gubbed by us, the Sheep, the Jambos, and others will do his reputation no good at all.

I reckon a decent championship team comes in for him he’ll be offski.

For any of you indulging in ” Ronny ” luv -just remember he played 1 up front at home to Partick thistle

What is it with these pompous hunned-up bawbags?

  9. Stairheedrammy on

Robertsons vague figures about the number of sevconians assaulted seem odd when you consider that he is an accountant. I thought they could add up?

  10. Stairheedrammy,

His figures are also odd when you consider he’s talking about assault. A crime.

You’d think he would know exactly how many players he is dealing with. Their names, and their individual tales of woe.

This vague throwing out of accusations with zero evidence to back it up is disgraceful, and dangerous.

  11. ITALIABHOY…

I watched Robertsons interview on the news, something didn’t ring right when he spoke about Warbutton “hopefully we’ll sort something out” maybe wishful thinking but I reckon the rumours might be close to the mark.

Not that I worry about him as a manager but what a laugh we’ll have ;))

There’s ANOTHER Hun statment released tonight.

Yes! Another one! The single-cell amoebas that are the Huns ar eundergoing mitosis.

This latest proclamation of insanity is a work of fiction in collaboration with Uncle Fester of the newly-formed Club 1872 ( to 2012) fans group, affiliated to Sevco today with the accreditation of Chairman Robertson.

Hear ye, hear ye! The Orcs of Mordor have hereforth smashed their heids together and rattled the handful of brain cells into a concussive froth enabling this hive mind to vomit forth the latest (no. 1960?) demented, hypocritical entitled pishu of lies and contrived bollocks:

“Following the shameful scenes which occurred in the aftermath of last Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final, Club 1872 has spent the past few days gathering witness accounts and information from supporters who were present. We have liaised closely with Rangers to pass on the information we have received.

In the first instance, we call on the Scottish FA to request the immediate resignation of Hibernian Chairman and SFA Vice President, Rod Petrie from the SFA board. His comments immediately following the game, and since, have been an absolute disgrace. How can Mr Petrie justify describing the violent acts of his supporters as “exuberance”? How can he justify the lack of any apology to Rangers for the attacks on our players? We welcome the announcement by the SFA of an independent enquiry but Mr Petrie’s comments are entirely at odds with their approach.

Had it not been for the match officials and Rangers own security staff, the assaults on our players could have been considerably worse and they have our heartfelt thanks for their actions.

Having taken time to consider all the facts, our anger over the treatment of our players and supporters has, if anything, increased. We are in receipt of a large number of accounts from supporters with young children, disabled supporters and others who witnessed our players being assaulted, fellow supporters being threatened, spat on and abused and widespread disorder yards from where they were seated. It is absolutely clear from these accounts that many Rangers supporters feared that Hibernian fans were going to enter the Rangers sections of the stands. The narrative being constructed by some – that hundreds of Hibernian fans who charged straight to the Rangers end of Hampden were intent on doing anything other than violently confronting Rangers supporters – is absolutely absurd.

It is clear that for several minutes there was a breakdown of security procedures in the stadium. We are keen to assist Police Scotland and the SFA’s independent enquiry in any way we can to discover why that was and will forward all relevant information to them. It is very important that they understand how the events of Saturday unfolded from the perspective of our supporters.

At the full time whistle, mounted police charged through Rangers supporters leaving the stadium peacefully from the rear of the South and West Stands. Clearly they were attempting to reach the stadium as quickly as possible but why did they do so with what appeared to be little regard for the safety of our supporters, in a confined space and in such an aggressive manner?

From timings taken from those leaving and those who were still in the stadium it then took the mounted police around 5-6 minutes to actually enter the field of play to deal with the chaos caused by Hibernian fans. When they did so, they approached the Hibernian fans, who were engaging in widespread disorder, assault and vandalism, in a much more controlled and respectful manner than was shown to law abiding Rangers supporters outside the ground. We will be seeking a meeting with Police Scotland to understand why this was the case and to ensure there is no repeat.

Club 1872 fully supports the Rangers statements on this matter and commends the restraint shown by our supporters in the face of extreme provocation. This is not the only time recently that Rangers supporters have been subjected to this type of behaviour from rival fans. We still await a proper conclusion to the SPFL investigation into similar scenes from Motherwell fans last year at Fir Park.

A climate is being created within Scottish football, and Scotland as a whole, where Rangers supporters, staff and anyone connected with the club are seen as fair game by an unpleasant and active minority who attach themselves to several Scottish football clubs. The bile generated by these people, which has its root in social media but has moved into areas of the mainstream media and politics, is now translating into acts of violence. Not only were Rangers players assaulted on the field of play but Rangers supporters were attacked as far away as Edinburgh after the game.

The bile, hatred and resulting violence shown towards Rangers needs to stop before someone is more seriously hurt. The Scottish Government, politicians, media, the football authorities and other Scottish clubs all have a responsibility in this regard. It is a responsibility in which they are collectively failing.

Only by standing together can Rangers supporters hope to redress the balance of how we are currently treated. Club 1872 will give our supporters the platform to do exactly that and we ask for the support of each and every Rangers fan in those efforts. The dehumanisation of the Rangers support must stop now.”

    Oh, you silly Hun Monkeys.

Goodnight children. Sleep well. Unless Uncle Fester’s under yer bed…

  13. A fantastic few days reading on CQN especially the Lisbon tales…Oldtim you had me in tears HH

I was at Celtic Park to welcome in Brendan and a refreshing new era (great to see you Lefty) and our energized support was a thing to behold. I asked on here a few weeks ago for Celtic to ignite the support, well in my eyes they have lit the match and threw it on a huge bonfire.

A small anecdote: I took 2 guys from my local to the Aberdeen game; they hadn’t been for a few years but their only topic of discussion on a Friday was Celtic. We had a great day out. Let’s be honest it couldn’t have went better then the Kerrydale afterwards etc.

Caught up with them tonight, with Brendan’s arrival on top of their Celtic Park experience they have registered for a season ticket.

God help your ears if you are next to them but 2 good Bhoys are back in town.

I don`t know if offering facts re statistics qualifies me as a ` ” Ronny ” luv ` candidate but I am surprised that you feel Celtic really did play with only one up front because that is the way it was written on the team sheet. Most games I attended, we regularly had eight up front!

  17. Do I understand there has been another statement from Mordor? Good God, they have no shame, waitthat is not a question it is an obvious fact. No matter what preposterous shite they come out with ,money seem to be unchallenged by all and sundry. It’s all a bit repetitive.

Anyway I hope that my week away next week will allow me to forget all about them, incidentally I think Warbo has just gone on holiday and will be back to get the season ticket sales ramped up again.

I had heard that Peter Houston was in the frame for a gig at Celtic but that seems unlikely now, he would have been a good fit in my opinion.

Aye I want them destroyed and humiliated as much as the next man, but I don’t think we are at the level yet of being able to compete an all fronts.

IMO we need to prioritise and the league cup is way down the list, maybes after a year or so we will be confident of taking on everything.

What I don’t want is us to fail in the cups and punters to get on Brendans back, cos the media played a huge part in Ronnys demise, and if allowed they will do the same with Brendan.

Feck the cups, the league is what matters then we can concentrate on europe.

The amount of people I know who’ve told me they plan a season ticket next year is incredible in fact I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t. Rumour in my work today was season tickets were being sold to non season ticket holders who had went to the ticket office and paid in full. Cannot see that being the case but it caused a bit of a stir.
