One for the Zonal Detesters, ‘Playing’ Ashley

499

It was far from beautiful flowing football at Inverness yesterday but the players raised the tempo sufficiently to get the result. Leigh Griffiths scored a classic poacher’s goal. He missed plenty against Kilmarnock and Ajax but that’s part of the territory of being a striker.

I was delighted to see Carlton Cole make his first appearance for the club, and for anyone since last season. His first touch could have resulted in a goal but his sheer body mass caused sufficient panic in the Inverness defence that a goal resulted soon enough. There’s a lot of work ahead as Carlton looks to get match fit but he’s exactly the kind of foil we’ve missed this season.

For all the Zonal Marking Detesters……… We’re now man-to-man and we’re still conceding headers in front of goal. The problem was not resolved with the switch to man-to-man. Defending corner kicks requires a physicality and alertness which we’ve missed all season. The sooner we fix this and get back to zonal the better.

On the subject of physicality, Dedryck, this is your hand. A brick wall should have been thrown up in front of Miles Storey at the Inverness goal. I accept we have unresolved issues at set-pieces and that we’ll lose goals as a consequence. Goals conceded on Thursday – a deflection-come-ricochet, and a breakaway, had little to do with the defence, but yesterday’s Inverness goal was just rank bad defending.

At Carfin on Friday I told Phil MacGiollaBhain that there was no way Dave King could weasel out of paying Mike Ashley his £5m, having said he would do so. Phil referred me to the “glib and shameless liar” part of King’s past and not to be so naive. He could have a point.

Ashley holds the aces here. Any attempt to ‘play’ him will fail.

  1. Auldheid,

    :)

Just a quick reminder, how many times did you try to use reason – I suggest, every time.

How many times did the troll respond with reason – I suggest none, not once, you were insulted and abused every single time you tried to explain using reason.

The troll has no reason except to try to bring intimidation, disruption and division.

Sssssshhhhh do to feed the troll, ignore the troll.

  2. Jungle Jim Hot Smoked,

From yesterday,: (I got dragged into a Monday Club for the first time in years!!)

I thought Inverness bossed the game yesterday directly after we scored until half-time so the issue doesn’t appear to be confined to home games.

  4. Winning Captains,

There are a few options available.

The Board could back the resolution and submit our information the the CFCB.

The city of London Police can be asked to investigate.

    The SFA can respond.

Rather than ask people for money up front for a judicial review, I’d rather use the relevant authorities to investigate to the full extent of the law, if that embarrasses any one then so be it.

  5. I’ve heard a lot about the elephant in the room but I have yet to see it. It’s a bliddy master of disguise I tell ye.

Morning Bhoys once again on reading back the blog I see some posters saying the Rangers are on the brink bailiffs at the door etc. While at the same time Warburton says he has agreed funds and players he wants to sign in January now for at least four seasons we have heard that they will run out of money and it still hasnt happened and I am pretty confident it wont happen the Rangers for me must have a source of funds that we do not know of or plenty of supporters prepared to give them soft loans and it looks certain that we will see them in the SPL next season. H.H.

You can take me out of the we, if that trumpets involved, if it has any chance at all, the farther away from him the better, in my opinion, he had his chance, and blew it, there should be an investigation on how it got in the hands of the CT in the first place, they where never mentioned in the original shares block to get res 12 off the ground, awe but shhhhhhhhh don’t be mentioning that right?

    Troll that.

See Canalamar’s response and as I said myself earlier we might need to change tactics if SFA still refuse to answer in spite of pressure from the club.

I wouldn’t write the media off completely and there are still court cases to come but I think a wee meeting before Xmas of those in the know to turn a push into a shove would be a good idea.

There are a number of options open, some of which could be taken simultaneously.

It looks to me like Hamilton Tim and TD67 are trying to establish a common ground this morning and bring an end to the fighting on the blog and I say to both well done Bhoys good Celtic supporters both of you.Unfortunately we have another poster on the side lines acting in my opinion like a five year old in the school playground and trying to stir it up very un Celtic like and very childish.H.H.

If RIFC are in the position of needing soft loans to cover monthly losses, I think it’s true to say they are on the brink.

It doesn’t mean they aren’t going to get those loans. However they can easily project what loans they’d need for a season, so if that money is readily available why not just get it up front and immediately close off at least one strand of the continuing story.

The only reason I can think of is to prevent somebody freezing their accounts in order to force repayment.

  14. Thank Ghod TD67 is a one off.

Auldheid canamalar let’s get the SFA out their hole guys, it’s about time to get some traction.

WEEMINGER. If the truth be told they are a mystery to me it appears time after time they defy logic but they have been doing that for some time now. I think if the full facts ever come out we will be shocked (or maybe not ) on who is assisting them including funds we must remember they are the establishment club and also remember who are the establishment ? 17. The Battered Bunnet on

    From Reuters:

A consortium of Chinese investors is spending $400 million (265 million pounds) to take a stake of more than 13 percent in the group that owns soccer clubs including Manchester City and New York City FC, expanding the country’s financial involvement in the game.

The consortium includes China Media Capital (CMC) Holdings and CITIC Capital and the deal values the City Football Group at $3 billion, City Football Group said in a statement on Tuesday.

As part of the deal, new shares will be issued in City Football Group in addition to ones owned by Sheikh Mansour’s Abu Dhabi United Group.

Ruigang Li, the chairman of CMC, will join the board of the City Football Group.

The capital from the share acquisition will be used by City Football Group to fund its China growth, further international business expansion opportunities and on infrastructure.

Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of City Football Group, said: “Football is the most loved, played and watched sport in the world and in China, the exponential growth pathway for the game is both unique and hugely exciting. We have therefore worked hard to find the right partners and to create the right deal structure to leverage the incredible potential that exists in China, both for CFG and for football at large.”

Investment from Sheikh Mansour has transformed the fortunes of Manchester City since 2008 and the club won the English Premier League in 2012 and 2014.

As part of its international expansion, City Football Group now also includes New York City FC, Melbourne City FC and a stake in Japan’s Yokohama F. Marinos.

Chinese property conglomerate Dalian Wanda this year bought a 20 percent stake in Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

    ——

Lots of interesting aspects to this, not least the value put on the City group of clubs. While there may be growth in the US, Australia and Japan, it’s modest in comparison to the juggernaught that is the EPL. The vast majority of the $3 Billion market cap of City Football Group is centered on Man City.

It’s also worth pointing out that while the SFA maintains a rule barring dual/multi ownership of football clubs, this is clearly not in line with FIFA’s position, or that of the national associations. With Ashley’s efforts with the SFA, chances are that this rule will be written out in due course, but I have to say I have some sympathy with it.

From a fan’s point of view, ownership of the club couldn’t be more remote from the community it is grounded in. Their ability to influence direction and decision making is set at nought. Fans’ influence at Manchester City has been floccinaucinihilipilificated. They are, in reality, little more than stage setting for a global soap opera. Without the fans, football is… a global business driven by its media reach. 40,000 paying fans at Maine Rd (sorry, The Etihad Stadium) is simply irrelevant to the bigger numbers involved now.

Closer to home, Dermot Desmond at some point or another will sell his stake in Celtic. My sense is that he invested on a punt – getting Celtic into the EPL will multiply the value of the club exponentially. Given the City multiplier, a factor of 20, 30, perhaps 50 is feasible. Extraordinary numbers. Perhaps it will happen, perhaps it won’t, but Celtic needs to be doing SOMETHING to change the football landscape, and the EPL remains the dream ticket for Dermot and Co.

We need to start considering the succession to Dermot. What kind of club do we want once our munificent benefactor leaves us?

Do we want to wake up one morning to find that the controlling interest in the club has been sold to a Chinese investment fund, or an American ‘sports franchise’ operator, or a gangster purchasing a football club as a proxy for legitimacy?

In the event that Celtic does manage to change the football environment, whether a British solution or a European one, the first port of call will be the City of London where there will be one almighty share issue, in the first instance to fund the club into the new business model. At that point the value of the club will grossly exceed the ability of the fans to buy in sufficiently to exert influence. We will, at that point, lose the last vestiges of influence.

Dermot is unlikely to brook such an idea right now, but we ought to be looking ahead and considering placing a formal cap on the size of an individual shareholding, perhaps 15%, such that no one individual can dictate policy, irrespective of whether said individual is as splendid and downright manly as Dermot, or somewhat less charitable, as is occuring across European football.

And that, to me, is where the Celtic Trust comes in: A collective of supporter-shareholders acting in the best interests of the Club from the perspective of the Community in which it is grounded.

I’m not a member – I subscribe to the Groucho Marx maxim – but the ability of the fans to influence the direction of the club has been shown time and again to be priceless. That’s not to say that the voice of the fans is infallible, or that there is much wisdom in our crowd at all, but amid the spectrum of opinions and beliefs, we all care. Passionately.

Looking ahead, the challenge is likely to be holding on to whatever influence we have.

  18. NZB - Beelin' and greetin' Troll Heids on

As an interested observer (from the sidelines), I’d be happy to contribute towards a crowd-sourced approach towards establishing some sort of judicial review initiative.

I understand the other options in play but as with some others share their frustration and feel a multi-pronged, and perhaps more forceful approach, has to now be considered.

Anyhoos just thought I’d pitch in an indicator that perhaps there is a wider resource waiting to be called on if/ when required.
