Celtic blew Partick Thistle away this evening with a virtuoso performance, which really needed to be seen to be appreciated. They passed perfectly on the Partick pitch and should have been ahead before Leigh Griffiths got the party going with an 18th minute penalty.
By that time, Emilio Izaguirre hit the post and Tomas Cerny made a fine save from Patrick Roberts. Thistle defender Callum Booth tried to stop Roberts but mistimed his tackle to concede the penalty.
Griffiths was on fire in the first half and beat three players inside the box before crossing for Tom Rogic, who lunged to make a slight contact on the ball, but it was enough to knock it against the inside of the post. Firhill held its collective breath as the ball ran along the line before turning inside the net at the opposite post.
Leigh then setup Callum McGregor but Cerny saved again. Thistle were struggling to get onto the ball but Lindsey should have done better with a header from an Erskine cross but the ball landed in Craig Gordon’s arms.
Goal of the night game three minutes before the break. James Forrest cutback for Roberts, who fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25 yards.
Thistle probably thought they were passed the worst but Callum McGregor got his customary goal on 82 minutes when his shot from the edge of the box hit the underside of the crossbar, bounced half a meter over the line and out, but the assistant referee correctly indicated the goal.
Tom Rogic was clean through with the keeper to beat twice late in the game, but substitute Thistle goalie, Ridgers. Tom couldn’t get enough on his header but the Thistle defence gave possession to Patrick Roberts on a plate. The England Youth international jinked before curling a memorable goal beyond the despairing keeper.

Outstanding performance from the Bhoys last night, the press trying make more out of the Leigh Griffiths incident than there was, he’s no’ the brightest but for me still our best striker, Dembele included.
Hope all the Lisbon Bhoys and Ghirls have a blast, would love to have gone but in the US next two weeks so will watch the cup final on my iPad!
Looking forward to Sunday, don’t have any khaki green unfortunately for whatever the Green Brigade have up their sleeves!

Brilliant last night, just brilliant. So brilliant that even Andy W**ker had to say it. Watching on TV, with a steady supply of ice cold Stella’s, gave me my best Thursday night since employers stopped paying me weekly, and in cash. Every player, or as Big Jimmy would say, EVERY PLAYER, was a success last night. I honestly cannot think of a time before, when not even one player played anything less than their highest level.
Craig Gordon
Not a lot to do in terms of shot stopping, but made saves when he had to. Unusually for a goalkeeper, he probably touched the ball more outside his box, than in. Always available for a pass from a fellow defender, or Broonie, and used the ball well. One small misjudgement when he fumbled a cross but a terrific performance.
Christian Gamboa
Played like he was a regular. Kept it simple. Great positioning made his defensive performance look easy and comfortable. Used the ball well going forward with short accurate passes to Eric, Broonie and Patrick. Always moves well in to space, after a pass.
Eric Sviatchenko
Great application and concentration for the entire game, and he played a leading role in our clean sheet. Strong in the tackle, and distribution was much better than earlier in the season, when he struggled in this aspect of the game. The guy is not the best defender we have ever had, but he is strong, combative, and an organiser. Great player to have in the squad.
Dedryk Boyata
I actually can’t believe the improvement in Dedryk from the nervous, weak player we saw at times early last season. I really thought he would never succeed at Celtic. Now, with confidence, we see a different player. Strong, dominant in the air and a good tackler. Like Eric, his use of the ball going forward was excellent. Keen to be involved. I think CL involvement next year will see further improvements in his play. You forget how few first team games the player has had
Izzy
We know what we get with the wee man. His usual energetic display. He was rampaging forward from the word go, and really put Thistle on the back foot, on their right hand side. Had some dangerous crosses and passes into the box, and even had a few pops at goal, in one of which he was very unlucky not to score. Lost possession a few times, but when he did, he hunts it down until we have regained possession.
Broonie
Another superb performance from our motivational Captain. The team has a different dynamic when he is in the side. He was everywhere on the park, starring in a defensive role, whether that was actually in the defence, or breaking up play and securing possession in midfield. He was strong and direct driving forward, and displayed excellence in a wide range of passing. He even made the spare men in the box more than once. The energising and encouraging qualities he brings to the team are there for all to see. His presence on the park improves everyone’s game
Calum
The metronome. Tic-tock, tic-tock. Receive, drive forward, pass. Receive, drive forward, pass. Great close control, sees a pass. He scored another good goal and is one of our most improved players since BR’s arrival. He sets the tempo for our pacey attacks.
Paddy Roberts
What a performance. Keen to be involved, he gave Thistle a torrid time down their left flank, with his running and trickery. They were different players, but I was honestly reminded of Jinky when I watch him in his current form. Small in stature, but surprisingly strong, he gave a fearless display, and illustrated the benefit of running at, and committing defenders. Created numerous chances, won corners, and scored twice with thrilling shots. Old school, with modern game sense. Brilliant.
Tom Rogic
His best performance since returning from injury and his goal will lift his game for the last two challenges we face this season. He retained possession well, and was always looking to create chances. Receives the ball and turns so well. Played further back than normal, and was more prominent in receiving the ball from our defenders, and turning to start one of our many attacking moves. His ability to receive the ball in tight situations lends itself to him being a defensive midfielder, but his eye for goal and the power and accuracy of his shooting lends itself to him being an attacking midfielder. If we can get his fitness and stamina corrected, then he could do both.
James Forrest
Provided plenty of Drive and powerful running, and along with Izzie, pinned Thistle back on their right flank. He offers fantastic pace, best utilised when we are attacking, but the defensive side of his game has really improved this season. He took up good positions last night, and had some good efforts on goal
The Griff
Some man, the wee fella. Duracell bunny. He was involved in all of our attacks in the first half. His positioning, standing on defenders shoulders, means he gives defenders a difficult shift all game. Very creative last night, he made great runs down the middle, in the channels and on the wing. Took the penalty well and had a few shots. Brilliant play to set Rogic up for the second goal.
Subs
Sinclair gave Thistle a whole load of new problems to deal with. Had a few good runs, and a few decent shots. Probably ready for a break, as his performance levels have just shaded off in the last few weeks. Still very effective though, as he has shaded off from a very lofty starting position.
Biton
Looked good when he came on. A bit more dig than normal and won possession quite a few times. Good use of the ball when in possession and had one decent strike from distance that was just over the bar.
Kolo Toure
A rare sighting of the big guy. Snuffed out the last bit of resistance that Thistle had going forward.
The Team
Undoubtedly some great individual performances on display last night, but it was the team, that was really impressive. There seems to be a great collective spirit amongst our players. After RD’s tenure, where we lost crappy goals, through chaotic positioning, this has been the single biggest improvement in the team. The team are in it together. If somebody does slip up, then someone else is there to bail them out. Off the ball, every single player works hard to make themselves available to receive the ball. Everyone is happy taking the ball in a tight situation, as team mates are adopting positions to neuter any threat if that player loses the ball. When in possession, our players have a number of options to give a pass to. Compare and contrast with Ronny’s time, when we couldn’t even retain possession from a throw in.
Last night, everything the players and coaches have been working towards finally “crystallised” into a sublime performance of a great team, at the very top of their game. Fifty years on from the greatest achievement of our greatest ever team, Celtic Jerseys have found another team that fits them.
Dare we dream?

DAVIDOPOULOS:
There is a player in Patrick Robert’s but that didn’t stop his parent club giving a classy magnanimous nod to Celtic to play him.
Life is short. The shelf life of a professional football player is even shorter. Who knows if Ryan Christie will ever again get the opportunity to take the field to contest a Scottish Cup Final.
I’d love it if Celtic gave Aberdeen the go ahead to pick him. It would be indicative of our much vaunted ethos. And it would be the right thing to do by the player.

UEFA rules forbid a “loanee” being prevented from playing against his parent team in the Champions League.
In the UK its between the clubs. I would have him in the stand next to the rest of the non playing staff cheering on the Hoops where he belons.
Belongs, even…..
Let Ryan sit on their subs bench. He can come on after we score our 3rd, play the last 10 minutes and then swap shirts at the end to join in the celebrations….
Ryan Christie is just not on, and it wouldent be fair to the boy either.
A stir

To me, 11 men playing to win.
Is a simple part of that ethos too Astir.
Keeping it professional I say

I Just checked the forecast for Lisbon for next weeks Party, for the 6 days that we are in Lisbon the sky will be cloudless with temperatures as high as 29 degrees centigrade.
AN TEARMANN:
I’m not stirring at all mate, I believe we will beat Aberdeen with young Christie in the team or out. I just think that since Aberdeen have been paying his wages all this time, and since he was a major factor in them getting to the final, then he deserves to play. After all he is just a kid.
I personally don’t fear his inclusion. The only Aberdeen player I would like to see not take the field is Logan and I don’t fear him neither.
Having had a peek at the sports pages on shelves this am, I am now of the belief that we played adequately well last evening.
MWD
Not sure if Man City gave us a nod towards playing Patrick against them but it being a UEFA competition there was nothing they could do about it.
On the face of it allowing Ryan to play in the cup final would appear to be an altruistic gesture I would be against putting the player in a position where there is an obvious conflict of interest.

HH
i will repeat a couple of things i have said before
1 – don’t eat yellow snow
2 – it should be an automatic inclusion in a loan players loan agreement that he can’t play against their parent team. It will stop this argument appearing all the time, but more importantly it will prevent any questions of integrity etc if that player misses a sitter or has a rubbish game against his parent club.
For a country like Scotland which has sporting integrity at the heart of its ethos, its a no-brainer
:-)))
The only way I can see Ryan playing against us is if Aberdeen have agreed to buy him when the transfer window opens or if Brendan has decided Ryan has no future at the club. Even then, I would be surprised if we showed such Corinthian spirit.
There isn’t a hope in hell Ryan Christie will play in the Cup Final.
Often when players are sent out on loan to gain regular playing time they are not allowed to play against their parent club.
However, unlike the Premier League, Uefa has no such rule in place to stop on-loan players from featuring against their parent clubs in European competition.
City’s sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, confirmed earlier this season that City were happy for Roberts to play against them – and he even featured in the 3-3 draw between the two sides at Parkhead back in October.
When asked about the possibility of Roberts playing against City, Begiristain said: “Yes, why not? Our target is to make him a better player and play in games such as this so we will see.”
