12 former Euro champions compete for Champions League

There has been a bit of revisionist nonsense expressed recently which appeared to damn the achievements of the current team by comparing them to the great Martin O’Neill side, but Martin’s team were known to struggle in qualifying on occasion.

Let the record show, four wins from four games.  Three clean sheets, two of which were achieved away from home.  The remainder of the tournament will present stiffer challenges but Celtic are a completely different team than the side which lost heavily in Utrecht two years ago.

This is what planned, sustainable, progress tastes like.

The Champions League proper will be difficult for Celtic to win; no fewer than 12 former European Champions battle to reach the Wembley final, but we are one of them and we’re there on merit.  After a four year absence the excitement of those early Champions League nights at Celtic Park against Rosenborg, Porto and Juventus has returned to the club.

Bring it on.

Of the 32 teams in the draw there are 12 former winners and three teams making their debut in the tournament.

Celtic, who qualified through the playoffs, became the last former European champions to make it through to the group stage while Malaga of Spain, Montpellier of France and FC Nordsjylland, the Danish champions, are all competing for the first time.

Teams from the same country cannot be drawn against each other in the group stage:

    Pot One:

Chelsea, Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Porto, AC Milan.

    Pot Two:

Valencia, Benfica, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit St Petersburg, Schalke 04, Manchester City, Braga, Dynamo Kiev

    Pot Three:

Olympiakos, Ajax Amsterdam, Anderlecht, Juventus, Spartak Moscow, Paris St Germain, Lille, Galatasaray

    Port Four:

Celtic, Borussia Dortmund, BATE Borisov, Dinamo Zagreb, FC Cluj, Malaga, Montpellier, FC Nordsjylland.

That choreography during the game against Rosenborg was average, not top in my ratings.

It makes me feel sick when I hear that after that game, Warsaw Police and Voivode moved proposal of closing that stand until the end of this year with probation period after.

    The reasons are:

1)these few flares (guilty were just banned)

    2) people under that big flag were not safe

    3) serpentines brougt from that stand

FC Elba supporters songs of hate, including that one about famine is much worse than our crimes.

This is one of the best of Legia Warsaw

Hello , just to let you know that I am planning to take part in a 50 mile cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh, 09/09/2012

During the next 2 weeks I plan to train very hard in order to be able to take part in this cycle where I would hope to be able raise some funds for “Wee Oscar Knox” who is 3 year old kid and is not keeping very well just now.

You can read Oscar’s story on web link below….

In the meantime, all donations are welcome, thanks

    Afternoon everyone,

It was an absolute pleasure to be in attendance last night, the team and management got the job done, thanks in no small part to the tremendous backing they received from all 4 stands. Well done to everyone involved.

One wee moan was the amount of tomes U had to endure the mention of the word “Sevco”. Please cab we just move on?

I swear some folk like to hate something else more than they love what they have.

Looking forward to the draw later.

two teams from the same country can’t be drawn together

By the way I wouldn’t say Chelsea are glamour in my book. They’ve got nothing on Barca, Real, Man U, Milan, Bayern. Small team with a big pocketed owner!

  20. Del Piero meeting Sion officials between 12:30 & 13:30 today to give them his decision. Italian press now quoting Celtic as favourites for his signature.

Del P cant get a game where he is. What makes him think he’ll get a game with Celtic??

“The things you see on FF when you’re off the drink:

“Not surprisingly it is proving almost impossible to get any journalists in Scotland to ask any questions relating to the murky relationships between those charged with running the game in Scotland (for the benefit of CFC.”

Maybe the Huns could get Scotland’s Sports ‘journalist’ of the Year on to this stuff. Although he might still be busy investigating Juninho’s TEB, BET, BTE or whatever it is called.

  25. I would find it interesting if all those calling for new players would also mention who should be left out to accommodate said players and how this would affect the replaced players and the growing team spirit of this group we have now.
