Development strategies

Booking £20m from TV rights in China over 10 years is a remarkable deal for the SPFL, it shows a lot of faith from broadcaster, PPLive, who have the responsibility to foster the league in the world’s most populous country.  The cash will be beer money to Celtic but represents a substantial income for most of the Premiership.

The deal opens the door for Celtic to follow-through, the only club with the wherewithal to exploit the merchandising, scouting and recruitment opportunities there.  We’ve seen strategies developed in Mexico, India and now China, while the European football-tourist market is also now being targeted through online partners.

None of this will put the ball in the Ajax net tomorrow night but it is important nonetheless.

Delighted we’re at Tynecastle in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.  Hearts players found the will to live against Hibs last week but they have little more than effort to their game.  Should be a cracking tie, which will not be subject to the performance vagaries of a home tie with Morton.

  1. Lenny was in the crowd watching with one of the de Boers beside him rabbiting on. Lenny looked as though he wished whichever de Boer it was would give it a rest so he could watch the game.

The de Boer looked like Peter Capaldi.

  2. I bet he widnae Gary…

“I’m sure if you had asked Neil Lennon what would be the most difficult draw for Celtic, he would’ve said Hearts at Tynecastle.”

  3. Ones called Ronald, Ones called Frank right enough…

“We think we will succeed if we play the same as we did in Glasgow,” said De Boer ahead of the Amsterdam return.

“If you look at that match we had chances and a lot of good moments. Celtic didn’t create any chances but scored twice and won the game.”

  4. Half time.

    Ajax 0-1 Celtic.

Celtic have played very well and could be up by three or four. We have had all the chances and have counter-attacked extremely well.

Although never underrated by anyone with Celtic leanings Bobby did things in such a simple, understated, professional & modest way he kind of slips beneath the radar of public recognition.

A wonderful striker. No need to take my word for it…ask Sir Bobby Charleton.

I’m not a fan of putting statues up to the living but I hope Saltcoats is primed for that day hopefully a long way off.

Gery bhoy- the Duke of Norfolk’s coat of arms includes a lion rampant with an arrow down its ole throat, to commemorate the victory at Flodden Edge.

Although ole Duke of Norfolk organises the Coronation , he cannot of course do so for one of his fellow RCs.

That was a lovely collection of pics of Bobby. What a striker!

And just think of the no. of offside decisions given against him. Bobby Charlton rated him as his favourite.

  8. I’m sure Peter Grant will say the Ajax youths “are obviously much younger than the Celtic youths,”like he did on Shortbread a few weeks ago, without knowing the facts.

  9. Bada Bing

However old they are, they are big lads, bigger than ours for the most part. But they have their goalie to thank for still being in the game. He has made three very good saves, including the penalty. He was lucky one rebound only just fell short of Denny Johnstone too.

Big Denny looks like Craig Beattie.

God bless the bold Guido Fawkes.

It’s about time that the legendary hero was made a saint.

  11. paolosboots Good Luck Wee Oscar on

Livibhoy you mentioned strong policing if they attend celtic park but was it not the police doing the damage eg the vandelism in the toilets :-)

  12. Afternoon all

Best wishes to the Buzzbomb. The word ‘legend’ is overused -but it does for him.

  13. I mentioned on the previous article that the son of a friend is playing football in Hong Kong and had dual Chinese UK nationality. His name is Jaimie McKee, he’s quick, scores loads of goals. Check him out on You Tube, you never know!

Fact : Tower of London held all gun powder in country -only year for which records are incompetent or missing is …… That’s right 1605!

He had the right idea though!

Just seen this “fact” about Guy Fawkes.

Shortly after being discovered, Fawkes was taken to the King’s bedchamber to explain why he wanted to kill him and blow up Parliament. Fawkes calmly answered that he regarded the King as a disease since he had been excommunicated by the Pope. He also explained that he needed such a huge quantity of gunpowder “To blow you Scotch beggars back to your own native mountains!”

Malcolm Murray certainly would not like him.

  16. Some Celtic fans in the crowd took their taps aff for a wee “northern tough guys” thing. They have now put them back on.

They looked like members of the Bluebells.

  17. Joe Thomson taken out by a guy on a yellow for what should have been a second penalty for Celtic, and a red card for the Ajax player. But the ref books Joe.

  19. A Lewis Kidd cross from the bye-line is palmed out by the keeper but fails to fall to a Celtic player for the tap in.

    Still 1-1.

Lewis Kidd looks like either Victor or Barrie from Victor and Barrie.

  20. Mon the young hoops – love it-, the fans’ behaviour, the bore and the world cup final have changed my idea of the dutch – would love it if we beat the youth – what they’re supposed to be good at.

  21. Seven minutes left.

    Still 1-1.

It’s a bit of a crazy game now and could go either way.
