Development strategies

Booking £20m from TV rights in China over 10 years is a remarkable deal for the SPFL, it shows a lot of faith from broadcaster, PPLive, who have the responsibility to foster the league in the world’s most populous country.  The cash will be beer money to Celtic but represents a substantial income for most of the Premiership.

The deal opens the door for Celtic to follow-through, the only club with the wherewithal to exploit the merchandising, scouting and recruitment opportunities there.  We’ve seen strategies developed in Mexico, India and now China, while the European football-tourist market is also now being targeted through online partners.

None of this will put the ball in the Ajax net tomorrow night but it is important nonetheless.

Delighted we’re at Tynecastle in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.  Hearts players found the will to live against Hibs last week but they have little more than effort to their game.  Should be a cracking tie, which will not be subject to the performance vagaries of a home tie with Morton.

  1. Well with john park being in china

Expect a big pile of scouting reports on Neil’s desk of non scoring Chinese dudes

Don’t think john park would recognise a Striker if even Henrik sat on his desk

Maybe when the Sevco fans are woken from their beds at 6am or taken from their place of work or the airport in front of their families we may get fans uniting against this disgraceful bill.

I won’t hold my breath though as the powers that be seem to think there is nothing wrong with thousands of them enjoying a bigot fest with the armed forces at Ibrokes

Your best bet is to get a taxi from city centre and ask driver to come back for you an hour or so later.

If main gates are closed take small pathway to left.

This will take you to security, say Celtic Glasgow, having seen and heard it hundreds of times they will wave you through.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Watching Sky Sports spend 10 minutes discussing a goalkeeper who is not even playing for Man City tonight.

    English nonsense.

Heard a Five Live interview with Sven last night where he was asked what itv was like to have had the “most prestigious job in world football”

Nearly crashed the car. Not just our MSM that are fawning imbeciles.

  6. My thoughts and prayers are with Bobby and his family.

My Dad’s favourite – complete favourite, no one else came close. Therefore my favourite.

I’ve been lucky to meet him time and time again – Celtic Park Hospitality, Sitting behind him in a game… But most memorably… My mate James and I walking up to the stadium in Seville and who does we bump into but most of the Lisbon Lions. Photos taken – me beside Bobby of course. Chatting away – asks him can we win this – he stops me, grabs my arm and says something along the lines of – we can, I don’t know if we will, but we’ve got he team to win it…

    And we did. So close.

Get well Bobby, I’d hate that smile to become a memory, because in your smile I see my Dad’s too – over all them years.

  9. If a bit hilly in places, Lisbon is a pretty pleasant place all round.

People friendly and plenty to see.

Don’t know how it will be at this time of year, a couple of pleasant couple of hours can be spent at Parque das Nações which is best got to by undergroundd

  10. ulysses- i met Bobby a few weeks ago and he was in great form, i’ve always said he is the most under rated Celt of all time.

Really liked the post about wee Bobby. Met him a couple of times myself and he is a smashing bloke. And what a great player- one of the coolest finishers ever.

Not in the striker department he has”nt.Hooper the exception to the rule.A lorry load of duds for strikers he has unearthed.

  16. Timgreen ? Which goalscorers has john park unearthed ? Massive lists of duds that have cost over 10million not counting the wages

Bourne. Yes indeed. And Henrik saying to john park ” I am here can’t you see me” but john too busy studying the goal scoring record of Murphy , bangura, miku, Balde, pukki etc etc to notice

  17. Just want to say.. one of my first conscious memories as a human being, was seeing Bobby Lennox when I was five years old…Celtic v Aberdeen 1970….I was just amazed.

Bobby Lennox… get well soon buzz bomb…love you, you are a total Celtic Legend.

    They think we are mugs.

The bill for buying Rangers for Craig White dropped to £1 because Murray and White accepted the Wee Tax Case as a bill that HAD to be paid (still isn’t).

That was before they were granted a licence by the SFA.
