8 days before we see Celtic war face

292

How many preseasons have we seen Celtic style to throw off lethargy before finding their rhythm when league business starts?

Our preparations often fell short when it came to Champions League qualification but the domestic marathon is a specialty of Celtic.

As Ange Postecoglou said, his style concern is to prepare the team to win games. He will not be remotely concerned with a result against Norwich tomorrow, instead he is likely to take risks in order to test and tax the squad.

We’ll wait another 8 days before we see Celtic’s war face. Enjoy the end of the summer strategy, whatever the score.

    “That is pretty rude.

Hold on, I read that wrong”

    O.K. Now I’m confused.

  2. Looks like old firm fc are going for it .fairly splashing the cash they now have . With regards to our team as far as I’m concerned I’m a bit underwhelmed by our signings , listened to a guy on a real Celtic site think it was 67HH who wasn’t to impressed at moritz signing ,said he was slow on the turn, , and right footed thought we were looking for a left sided defender at least he is big that’s a change from the norm . Still no enforcer for midfield , you would have thought our coach would have responded to the semi final where we were intimidated from the go ,and going by the big bruisers they are buying and mostly always buy more of the same is coming .

  3. “We’ve got to be stronger than last year and improve.

“The focus for us is the league and to retain our title we need to be stronger.

Imagine for a moment that we get a season free of injury for proven resources Kyogo, GG and Turnbull.

Goals a plenty, physicality, worldclass sublime technique from Kyogo, for me that is an area for improvment, and measurable outcomes.

Imagine for a moment, those loan players aged 22 and 24 CCV and Jota continue on an improvement pathway, Ange says they did over the time on loan, and were better players now than when they were loaned.

I never doubted for a moment that they would not sign, they loved it, we loved them, i am certain prices and contractual matters are pre-agreed when a player comes on loan, has to be in the loan agreement, surely.

That angst “they are gonny get stolen, walk away, go back to their clubs and sold at a higher price”, utter tripe,

Next, the youngsters – Abada and ORiley, high contributors in such a short time, and surely improve with age ?

Our other 3 Japanese superstars, rested up, meditated, come back hungry, and adapted to the culture, big things this season , they can get better, it is in their mentality, their culture, always improving.

Added benefits, none of these qualification games, midweeks to train, drill, practice, perfection,, start the league season with no dropped points, and I honeslty think we will blow them away.

    Thats how I see it.

Oh that and put big Joe on a lead, that doesnt take him halfway up the park, but keeps him in a safe distance from goal, that he can get back on the line quickly.

As an aside I think we must be shite if we didnt even qualify for the groups of the league cup.

and the new banner is shite.

SAINT STIVS first out the traps with “We’ll blow them away.” Hope he’s right. It would be great to lead from start to finish.

“Would he not have been good enough to have improved our bench in Seville?

    A bench that included a certain JS / winger / No.39 repeat No. 39.

You answered yes to them all — JMcF would not have improved our bench.

Logically that means that you thought JS was a better player than JMcF.”

    ————————————-

Nice try. Just the one omission which is the crucial bit. Jamie Smith was an unused sub on the bench- I listed the three subs used- and I stated they were all better than J McF.

The bench is not improved by having an unused Jamie Smith or an unused James McFadden. David Fernandez was a better finisher than either but he too was unused. Mom Sylla had influenced some of our European games but he too was unused.

The Titanic would have been in no better shape to avoid the iceberg if it was painted differently.

Unused subs do not change games. Martin would still have played Ulrick, Jackie and Shaun – the other bench names were uninfluential and uncrucial. It is a matter of no concern to improve your 5th or 6th best sub if you are allowed to use only 3. As it turned out- we would have been better with a higher quality CB to replace Bobo (before or during the game) than Ulrick was.

I often feel like being a lot more explicit, but am always conscious of the Moderator’s presence.

  9. Oh the Seville bench, and my own feeling of lacking in depth, few of the best options once BJH is injured.

That whole season, we were good, those last weeks after the Liverpool game, we just dint have enough options, even though we went on and on, all I kept thinking in Seville was “what would Lubo have done”.

We lost the league by a goal ffs.

Who knows what cheating the huns and refs got up to.

  10. Ive got a feeling that them there Zombies are never going to see a penny of the “appearance add ons ” for Patterson, lets see as well if Bassey can get on the pitch at Ajax

Who sanctioned that Patterson signing? He’s clearly not ready for premier league football. Again the recruitment has been a joke how can you bring in a right back for so much money who’s not good enough at the moment

When Bobo was sent off, I remember thinking, in this situation, Mourinho would put Chris Sutton back to centre half and play for penalties.

““Teams don’t just improve with a few bling transfers”

    —————————————-

But they can certainly get the desired result! For example, 3/4 years ago, Liverpool identified serious weakness at the goalkeeper and center back positions. In came Allison and Van Dijk.

    Voila! Instant dramatic improvement.

    ——————————————————-

Instant?? They joined at different times. Virgil in December 2017 and Allison 8 months later.

Why cherry pick those two to credit the improvement? They bought Salad and Robertson 6 months before Virgil (as well as the less successful Solanke and Oxlade-Chamberlain).

At the same window where Allison arrived- so did Fabinho, Shaquiri and their winning goal scorer Origi. They came in a job lot with Allan, Grujic, Keita, Markovic, Randall and Daniel Sturridge.

5 of the guys they bought in those transfer windows were shipped back out again in the January 2019 window which hardly suggests any scientific precision in recruitment. But, when you are playing with free Sky money you can pay those sums and churn out the waste.

They spent more on midfield and forward recruitment so it was hardly a focus on defensive improvement. And they overpaid for Virgil when they could have had him for one sixth of what they paid if they’d bought him from Celtic direct. He was already as good a player when he left us, as he is now but Liverpool did not see it or their improvement could have started much earlier.

Anyway, the main point was not that all transfers are bad- Ange has just shown they are not, but that there are many better and cheaper ways to improve a team- which was the question RC posed.

    Aff oot noo

At 19 Patterson had made more international starts and in competitive fixtures than the mighty Gers new Turkish left back, who is apparently an experienced international. So you can understand the mistake.

Yilmaz is so good he’s an improvement on a £20m player of the same age, and will form a formidable partnership on the left side of defence with Ben “soft touch” Davies.

  15. Yilmaz has 1 more start than that other blue-nosed defensive internationalist and stalwart Nikola Katic, both more recent than the Croatian’s 2017 debut (and swan song), a 7 minute substitute appearance in a friendly against Mexico

Depends how you look at it. According to Wiki, and up until 2022, Patterson had made 29 appearances for Scottish international teams from U-17 onwards. Yilmaz had made 55 from U-16 onwards.

Just admit you are wrong — just for once play it straight.

You are at it big time — swinging like a Tory politician caught in the glare of reality.

My statement / assertion was against the full bench not just the three substitutes.

You agreed — and as JS was part of the bench — JS in your eyes was better than JMcF.

It depends on your definition of experienced international I guess. I don’t think either are.

Not that it means much, there’s every chance theyr first choice back 5 will have 4 caps between them next season.

Timbhoy163- i doubt the Vaults has had a makeover, will find out tomorrow, i will reserve judgement on the new bar, i posted along with many others that the facilities inside and outside the park are very poor,it’s a start, but a fanpark with temporary structures, would work imo,HH
