90 minutes of European drama ahead

443

The juices are flowing ahead of tonight’s crucial third round Champions League qualifier against HJK Helsinki at Celtic Park.  Not only is it the first competitive game Celtic have had something to play for since winning the league at Rugby Park almost four months ago, it will be one of our most important games of the season.

The Finnish champions are midseason and have already negotiated an earlier qualifying round.  After recent August disappointments against Sion, Braga (how little we knew about them at the time) and Utrecht, Neil Lennon will know only too well the pitfalls of summer football.

It will be a long and tiring 90 minutes for the players but a special Celtic Park atmosphere should see them through.

Best wishes to Morten Rasmussen, who joined FC Midtylland yesterday, or to tell the fuller story, was removed from the Celtic payroll with around £250k in compensation heading our way.  Morten arrived in January 2010, shortly before Robbie Keane and a host of other loan signing pitched up at Celtic and squeezed his chances of first team football.

Tony Mowbray was replaced by Neil Lennon two months later and Morten was clearly not in the new manager’s plans.  It all looked promising for him when he came on as a substitute, scored a goal and turned the game against Hamilton Accies in his first week at the club, but it was pretty much downhill from there.

Lesson here: for several years we signed too many players.
Enjoy the game!

Remember our raffle.  All proceeds go to the good causes; The Haven, Cancer Respite Centre, Blantyre, Oscar Knox Neuroblastoma Appeal, Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and Aberdour Primary School Parents Association.

You could try the club associated with the Catholic church in South Harrow. I think it’s called St Gabriel’s.

I know that they used to show the Celtic games.

  9. Sannabhoy,

As usual, full of your own self importance.

I’ve got a feeling that everything will run like clockwork tonight mainly due to your lack of presence.

Not surprised nobody wants to go and watch the game with you in a pub. You’re such a bad omen! Still banned from the admiral??

HJK official ‘slogan’ is ‘theres only one club’:

    http://www.hjk.fi/english

Sounds a bit like the Finnish version of ‘We are the Peepel’.

Ironically, the peepel in Glasgow have 2 clubs on the go right now although only the 2012 incorporation has a licence:)

  12. I’m in a right quandary here……The Bournemouth Shamrock CSC is a shambles : I’ve tried phoning where they (sometimes) convene. Never anyone there. I know of NO Celtic friendly pubs in this town i.e. anywhere that would deign to show a Celtic match, even though the feckin’ place is rammed with pubs.

    I don’t subscribe to Sky.

I would like to see,at least, some of the matches live on telly (I visit Parkhead any time I’m in Glasgow) and some, like the European ones, are unmissable.

As it stands I’ll be settling for radio.

(Premier Sports online is not an option either)…..the streaming is woeful.

Oh well,I guess I’m just sounding off.

    Apologies if that annoys anyone.

    HH !

  13. From Traynor’s article:

We need Celtic to help restore some credibility, [especially after their behaviour last year]*, and we need them to bring some light to the darkness.

*What the feck does that even mean- what is this jumped-up joculator alluding to?

  14. think we’ll get a result tonight, if you cant be confident then whats the point!

good to see radmusson has left the building now all we need is murphy, wilson and a good bid for ki to have had a very good clear out. would like to keep Victor at least 1 more season and hopefully add 2 quality players.

its been 2 years in the making but i think we’re getting there. well done NL and the board.

p.s dont think any club will be hit to hard by rangers death. sky’s deal is actually no worse than before when you consider rangers have taken 3 million in prize money = £3 million. dont think ESPN will reduce their payment by much given that they never showed old firm games anyway and will continue to show both celtic and newco. books for MSM yet?

  15. Miki67

For a £2.99, you can try StreamPro.

The price is for one nights viewing only.

They are advertising our game tonight.

I use it instead of Sky, and, although watching on the laptop is not perfect, it’s ok.

  18. I’ll be in Aberdeen tonight and can’t find a venue that will be showing tonight’s game on Premier Sports. Previously I watched the Utrecht away game in Malones (Douglas Hotel) but they aren’t showing it . Does anyone know of a venue in the Aberdeen area that is showing it ? Incidentally my wife is taking my son to the game tonight and will be in my seat . Don’t want to worry everyone but the last game she attended was the home opener v Dunfermline in the Wim Jansen year . We either drew or lost that one (think Craig Brewster may have been playing for Dunfermline) and she hasn’t been allowed to go back. Grateful for any Aberdeen suggestions. Thanks.

I guess big Morten was always on a hidin’ to nothin’ with his proclaimed admiration for Duncan Ferguson.

    Guid luck to him anyway.

    TootingTim,

in a childish sort of way it always makes me smile when I see a pub name with that word in it. Best one was the pub I used to drink in in Moseley, Birmingham called ‘The Fighting Cocks’

who cares what that fat f&ck thinks, all these media hacks talk sh&te and are clearly anti-celtic and anti-scottish football.

problem is they all have this idea that they are the people and without their clubs scottish football is doomed, when this is in fact proven to be bull, they cant handle it so they look towards others, look to pass blame, look to spread myths right left and centre and even through they have been proven wrong they cannot admit it. kolbs cycle of learning is truly lost on them, just making the same mistakes time and agian without the ability to adapt even when its needed

    now that is sad

Funny you should say that, theres a thread on RM currently that he is having lunch with SDM, Walter and an unidentifiable associate in Martin Wisharts restaurant in Leith as we speak.

Probably more crap from RM mind you:)

  25. The Bournemouth CSC met last season in a place called The Electric Club, but it was woeful…..sometimes you’d show up and it was CLOSED….lights out…dark.

When it was open,it was shambolic and an unfriendly place (not the Tims!).

I despaired and got SkySports & ESPN.

    {{When I was in Malta earlier this year I went along to the CSC there….it was brilliant. So,I thought : why isn’t it like this where I live ? But,to repeat, I can’t do it on my own.}}

But I swore I wouldn’t do that this season……and for good or bad,I keep my word/promises.

A SCOTS chef is in a coma in a Middle East hospital after being attacked in a street in Dubai.

Martin Carr was left unconscious when he slipped and banged his head after being pushed over in Dubai almost three weeks ago.

Now the 38-year-old’s family are trying to raise the £45,000 needed to bring him home.

Doctors in Dubai, who carried out surgery in a bid to save Martin’s life, have warned his family he has suffered severe brain damage.

His parents Jack and Jill Carr and sister Lorraine flew to Dubai after being told of the tragedy by the Foreign Office.

They spent six days at Martin’s bedside before flying home to prepare to bring him home.

Lorraine said: “We have been warned he might never wake up – but we just want him home. The whole family are devastated. Martin didn’t have insurance.

“The cost will be around £45,000, so we will need help to raise it.”

A man has been detained in custody over the incident.
