Aberdeen 1-3 Celtic

884

Celtic blitzed Aberdeen with three goals in the opening 11 minutes in what at that stage looked set to be a drubbing, but the hosts pulled a goal back in the 12th minute, which set a parity for the remainder of the match.

Leigh Griffiths has had to be patient this season but he made the most of his starting opportunity tonight. The opening goal, came from his corner, which was headed into the net by Dedryck Boyata. Patrick Roberts had a clear chance to open the scoring seconds earlier, but Aberdeen keeper Lewis turned his effort behind.

The second Celtic goal arrived on the 8th minute. There was nothing really on when Griffiths collected the ball wide on the right, but one cheeky nutmeg later and the Aberdeen defence were chasing shadows. Leigh crossed and Callum McGregor fired a shot which was blocked by Logan. The rebound fell to Stuart Armstrong, who contorted his body to make a contact good enough to score.

Again, there was little obvious danger when Leigh Griffiths collected the ball 30 yards out in 11 minutes. The Celtic striker took on two defenders before cracking a shot from 24 yards, which moved and deceived Lewis before smacking the back of the net.

At this point Celtic looked more likely to score six than to settle for three, but, remarkably, the fourth goal of the game arrived just a minute later, when Jonny Hayes lost Kieran Tierney with a quick change of direction before thundering one into the top corner from 23 yards.

unspecified-54

It was now Celtic’s turn to rock. Perhaps the game’s most important subsequent moment came after just 14 minutes when Stockley lost the Celtic central defenders, but couldn’t make contact with a cross 7 yards in front of goal.

Celtic’s passing in recent weeks has been exceptional, but they didn’t get this right on a choppy Pittodrie surface, as the unforced error count spiked. The ball rotation we have become used to seeing this season didn’t happen often, underlining the importance of suspended Scott Brown.

  1. He got himself booked for a challenge on Sinclair when he was turned inside out, the rest of the time it looked like he was trying to provoke a response from the Celtic support to give himself some recognition in the game, a dumpling, who will get roasted in the final.

  2. This match was looking like a waste of time after eleven minutes with Celtc racing ito a three goal lead but gladly Aberdeen managed to make somewhat of a contest of the evening but never looked like been good enough. I was glad to see our central defenders been put under pressure and they coped well, because they can expect to be tested big time when the Champions League qualifiers come around. No use for defenders to be strolling through every fixture, they need to be extended.

  3. Huns v Wee Huns today////Andy feckin Walker

23rd minute…Walker ” He may be 38 but Clint Hills defending is TOP CLASS”

Ipox half empty..very dull “match” …Walker at times stating about ” Brilliant play by THEM”….V 10 men ! doing his utmost to talk up two absolute crap teams. I shouldn’t expect any different I suppose ?

Huns goalie PUNTS HIGH BALL up the pitch….Walker, ” just like partick game last week…excellent LONG PASS from Foderingham” !

bring on the horse racing ffs

  4. At one point the Celtic fans were singing and keeping the ball as Logan waited for it to take a throw in.

Instead of just asking for another ball he kept making hand gestures to the crowd to keep it going.

    Incitement?

I am just glad our Bhoys got out of there injury free.

Run at Logan and he will react, do it as early as we can in the final and he will be on his backside.

Hearts look the better team even with 10 men. Every chance this could finish 3 or 4-1 all the same, but the Huns are absolutely rotten. They have no identify in terms of the way them play and they look wide open, any decent team would beat them. Madhun is giving them everything too.

Did you catch my post last night about a bench on Hampstead Heath in memory of the Gibbons brothers. Do you know anything about it?

Terrific result last night,I look forward to watching the game, despite being in attendance.

Pittodrie is a shocking Stadium with regard to viewing, its impossible to see any play up the left hand side and the area given to Celtic should be considered restricted view.

Two things I did see clearly was Shinnie leading with his studs on Gordon, and his impassioned plea for a spot kick,I would not have been surprised had McLean given it considering his track record vs Celtic, the other incident was the disgraceful antics of Logan to provoke a reaction from our supporters, yet avoiding censure from both Referee and Police.

I thought Midfield was light and was disappointed in Sinclair, however it gave us a workout in dealing with high balls the like of which we have not seen since Wimbledon in their Vinnie Jones days.

In my view we are a more potent threat with Griffiths in the team,in terms of both scoring and creating, and irrespective of Dembeles availability for the Final,Griffiths should not lose his place.

(Bowler) hats off to the orange walk going through Rutherglen at the moment. They’re going to get soaked through in this heavy torrential rain!

  16. While we marvel at being 30 points and 42 goals better off than the sheep lets not forget that we’re 36 points and 62 goals in front of sevco, not too bad after “losing” 1-3 and 1-1 against both of them.

  17. Our MF was all over the place last night.

SA — pumped up for te game but lacking focus and positional sense.

CMcG — played too much in the channels and not enough in the middle.

Very our performance after his two master classes against the TFOD2.

TR — only showed in flashes, didn’t do enough when they had the ball.

Needs to kick on to make the most of his talent — not sure if his attitude needs a kick up the erse.

ScS — not really at the races, high maintenance player that needs emotion support and direction.

PR — really liked his efforts to get involved but with us a bit disjointed he did not have the opportunities that he would normally have.

LG — good in parts but needs to pass the ball quicker.

His thought always seems to be can I get a shot away rather than what is best for the team.

Finally my impression was that JF put in a bit of a shift when he came on — memories of some decent tracking runs and a very good tackle. Plus full respect to NB — he had got the gist of the game on the bench and came on and did exactly what was required.

  18. I have seen the goals and the comments about the Bhoys last night.

    Paddy got another MOTM.

I would send Sinclair on holiday for a week, he is running on empty, he hasn’t played a lot of games in last few seasons.Need him fresh for Cup Final.

I openly admit I am not a fan of CMcG

Watch him again at the goal we lost at the hovel recently, then watch at the goal we lost last night, there why I question him

In saying this, I a man not blaming his performance last night on our loss :-)))

Tom Rogic struggled to get into the game, Scott Sinclair struggled, and on numerous occasions Dedryck Boyata pulled Aberdeen on top of us, with poor possession play.

Also thought at times Mikael Lustig looked to be struggling

Possibly taking a wee breather for the Final push ?

Incidentally, on the Ryan Gauld link earlier, why not give young Michael Johnstone a wee run out as well
