Abject failure of leadership

1038

After they hatched their plan to blackmail Scottish Football League clubs into voting Newco into the First Division, Stewart Regan, Neil Doncaster and David Longmuir might have paused to wonder what reaction they would receive.

You better believe they didn’t anticipate the reaction today from Clyde and Raith Rovers.  Rovers chairman, Turnbull Hutton, told BBC Scotland’s Jim Spence, “If we are at the stage of bending rules and accommodating, threatening and blackmailing, we want to give it up.”

“Bending rules… threatening… blackmailing…we want to give it up”.

Hutton went on to suggest heads should roll at the SFL, SFA and SPL.  He’s the first from within the football establishment to call for sackings but he’ll not be the last.

An extensive statement by Clyde FC concluded, “The papers include a proposal to allow a Newco to enter the 1st Division. This is contrary to the rules of the SFL and nothing within the papers justifies this proposal.”

Regan, Doncaster and Longmuir will now be contemplating that their bully-boy tactics will fail. SLF clubs will vote against their recommendations and SPL clubs will not stop promotion from the lower leagues based on merit.  It looks like abject failure of leadership.

    Emdy want to talk football?

Big game tonight, saw Spain 1-0 , Iniesta to score at 28/1 !!! Nothing can go wrong now

    ===========

2 – nil spain for me but then again I predicted Germany would beat Italy easily :(((

  2. One of the highlights of Euro 2012 has been the vintage and sublime performances of Italy’s Andrea Pirlo, but will Xavi Iniesta and Co have the last laugh?

I think tonight’s game will be a borefest balotelli 1-0

  4. I think tonight will be fascinating rather than exciting. A tactical battle with a lot of midfield play and not too many chances. Torres to come off the bench and score the winner!

    I hope I’m totally wrong as usual and it’s a 4 – 4 thriller.

    Uch, okay …

There was an interesting piece in the Gruniad yesterday, looking particularly at the influence of Andres Inesta, but also looking back on the Spanish national side over the past 8 years or so …

My heart says 2-1 to Spain, but my head said 2-1 to Italy.

Also wondering if Spain will play with a centre forward.

Much looking forward to the game …

  7. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire,

    You say tomato …

Sometimes I like the kind of match that is more like chess with different formations trying to outdo each other. But in a final I guess wild excitement and lots of goals is a better advert for football.

  8. I was in Tenerife 4years ago when Spain defeated Germany in final…(in a Spanish bar with the bar next door full of Germans..)

great night that one,I’m sure PF will enjoy it tonight…

    no Pizza tonight though….

1-1, Italy to win on pens. That’s what I need to get me some ole Sportsguru points.

If you look carefully at the station pic you can see wee Jenny Agutter, waitin’ for her ole man to get back from the game.

Got a fancy for Italy tonight!! Spain had one shot on target = no goals. Italy 2 shots = 2 goals. Mon the Tallys!!

Moonbeams. Sounds like you’ve been talking to my middle wean. She thought the football was a bit dull and decided that she would award goals for any attempt she deemed close enough.

This system has produced some quite interesting scores in the latter part of the tournament.

  14. too much talk about “will Spain play with a centre forward” They will play 11 good players in a fluid formation. Got a feeling they will really turn up tonight, with a “classic centre forward” or not, they can be good to watch.

Pirlo is a class act but for me Iniesta is the better player, he can play the conductor of the orchestra role as well , and I think Barca will use him there when Xavi moves aside.

  15. Hoop hoop Hooray on

1-0 Italy with player of the tourney Pirlo scoring a 25 yard free kick in the 3rd minute of injury time.

What a way to get my 100/1 scorecast up.

3-1 Spain ………put your mortgage on it ……. I got the nod from Doncaster…

  17. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Excellent CQNer Thismancraig used to bang on years ago about how Pirlo was the best midfielder in the world.

JmcCormick …….I agree …..if Iniesta ‘clicks’, Spain will win…

  19. mattgallscot on

i would let Regan, Dungmaster and longshanks go and bring in professionals, like gordon smith and cambell ogelvie to run our game, get it right this time maybe bring in walter smith as a director of football or refereeing .

i’m away back into my straight jacket now.rangers will win the spl next season, my brown brogue wearing cell mate told me so.

  20. Can’t see past Spain as Xavi will not play as badly as he did in the semi-final. The Italian defence has been pretty good in this tournament but a few speedy wee men running at them will upset them. I expect Barca’s Pedro to be just the fella. I can also see Italy finishing with fewer than 11 players.

Sagen wins stage Slovakian in his first tour ..well done son

Great move by Cancellara still in yellow

  24. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Zbyszek -congratulations on putting on an excellent tournament. The technical level of play, with one or two exceptions, has been very good and a nice change from the dreary ball thrashing of the SPL.
