AGM report, Living Wage, Rory Bremner, show us the deeds

1098

Celtic’s Annual General Meeting, held at Celtic Park today, was a livelier event than usual.  The board received a hostile response to their refusal to back a resolution to provide all staff with at least the Living Wage.  Several impassioned points were made from the floor, which convinced chairman, Ian Bankier, to dispense with his prepared response and provide answers to specific questions.

The vote went against the resolution based on the proxy votes cast by the chairman but the board have never lost the floor so convincingly on any prior issue.

Resolution 12, encouraging the club to purse the game’s authorities on matters relating to the governance of liquidated Rangers was adjourned indefinitely by the requisitioners.  On proposing the adjournment, a spokesman for the requisitioners (our own Morrissey23) explained that they had met the club and received information not previously known, and that further meetings were planned.

Fergus McCann made an unexpected contribution to the AGM by email through the chairman, extoling the virtues of financial director, Eric Riley, who he commended for 19 years’ service in pursuing Celtic’s interests.  Fergus asked for, and got, an applause for Eric Riley, which resulted in the first unanimous show of hands to re-elect a director I have seen at a Celtic AGM.

AGM questions can be a tortuous affair but they were on the money this year.  We had poetry, questions about financial governance including a question as to whether the club owns all of it’s perceived property assets.  Ian Bankier confirmed it did, before planting his tongue in his cheek to insist “I’m not going to show you the deeds”.

When one shareholder expressed frustration that a new Scottish club is pretending to be a now liquidated club, chief executive, Peter Lawwell, retorted, “Rory Bremner can pretend to be Tony Blair”.

I agree, the club is on a better financial footing than it has ever been.

Though it must be said that the hun have contributed to the coffers in a variety of ways re their stupidity and arrogant supreimisism [sp].

We are where we are, and I am happy that we are not on the same track as the hun, and many other clubs, but, and always abut, it might not always be this way.

i was raking in the garage the other day and came across an old mag from the late 90s, and there was an artical about how the hun would dominate for ever, it at the time brought a tear to the eye, things in life always seem to go the full circle.

maybes we should just be gratefull we are where we are today.

As for no having a striker, well that’s another story.

Oh ST, Pukki is not a striker, never has been never will be, he will replace KC, he will be our number 10, and he will be sold for mucho more than we paid for him.

You can mark my words on that mi amigo.

    Doc,

I don’t know about that– and to be honest I don’t know who backed the resolution and am not privy to that information.

However, it could be that Auldheid, Canamalar and Morrisey have that info.

So I don’t know who is going to do that or when but can certainly ask.

What I can say is that post the AGM I did have a chat with the Company Secretary on a fairly informal basis ( indeed TBB managed to get a few things off his chest in the same conversation ) and before we parted we agreed about further communication.

In turn, Auldheid has already sent me e-mails this evening about further matters to take up with the board and of course he will return from Spain for Christmas so the whole thing is ongoing.

In fact if I can be blunt—– It never bloody stops!!

Sorry meant to say earlier— Remember to get along to St Mary’s tomorrow if anyone witnessed anything in Amsterdam last week as they are taking statements.

Regrettably I can’t be there but I agreed with Jeanette that I would help out with a timeline or whatever taken from the statements.

When we bought him, I scoured the tapes of him, and even a blind man could have seen that he was and is not a striker, but some still get their kacks in a twist about him, he will be the supplier as you say, that imo is what he was bot for.

he is quick, he can see a pass, he will provide.

  6. Hello guys n gals, who all attended todays agm.

Firstly, I again would like to raise my appreciation for canamalar, morrissey 23 etc…very good chaps.you done all you could today!.

For a guy who, through certain property dealings, had the priveledge of buying a house at a young age, and now on my way to buying again….I would love to thank the full team who got behind the living wage resolution…

It is quite incredible…while the gap between the rich and the poor increases….so does the discontent amongst the real backbone of our society..

.I respect the man who wakes at 7 and provides for his family.

“CL played 4 lost 3. oh yeah the huns are deid…ehhhh no they urny

I agree.Try telling that to SFTB.Oh,and throw in the Morton result.”

I’m heading to my bed but, out of courtesy……

Is this not the best period of our history(2001-13) apart from 66 to 74, which is my claim?

Were you better pleased with Celtic’s achievements in 74-80? 80-88? 89-00??

As for limiting a period to one CL campaign and complaining about 1 win out of 4, there were 21 CL campaigns before this one. We missed out on the first 9. We have appeared in 12 since then, making the Group stages on 8 occasions and last 16 three times.

    Try telling that to SFTB???

Try telling it to anyone that can count??

P.S. What do we win exactly if one of our players is top of the SPL Top Scorers chart since that seems to be in the lead for moan of the day?

Off to my kip. I’ll leave the floor to the anhedonists

    thanks for the personal attention.

Howevah…. you and I both know the truth of the matter. Der Hun were not eligible for the 2011 CL licence but got it anyway. Those are the irrefutable facts. As a PLC Celtic were diddled out of perhaps £20m. Add that to the previous 2 years diddling and at £60m any corporate lawyer would tell you to be very wary of shareholders pursuing this case because frankly, with a good lawyer, they have a strong case. The Board could easily be called for dereliction of duty.

I strongly suspect this is why there has been a change of heart by the Board. Best option? Suck them in. Frankly I don’t give a toss about the £value but the prize is SFA reform. Always has been. The SFA have colluded with this sham and are totally tainted. The resolution seeks to expose and address this. If the Board are genuinely prepared to properly pursue this agenda then I will be content, but……. do I trust them at this point? No I do not. By their deeds you shall know them…….

My touchstone is Fergus. What would he have done? Being diddled out of £60m? He’d have already have done ralotalem. But this is a different Board with a different agenda. I remain very cautious.

I do not doubt the sincerity of all 4 leading the fray. But, I’d be very wary of Board intentions? Why was Morrisey so badly treated? Did they apologise? What is this new ‘shared’ agenda? How will it be delivered? Often best not to be blinded by the light I find.

Well done the requisitioners for even getting it this far.Correct me if I am wrong, but were you not expecting the vote to go against you?.What I was led to believe, again if I am wrong sorry, was that if this was the case the “Shareholders”would then take the matter further.

Having dealt with “Suits”for more years than I care to remember, they are,by and large, shrewd, oily,Machiavellian types. Our board included.I fear that you, through no fault of your own have been stalled,as the board said”Indefinitely”.I fear you will find it very difficult to pursue this matter with the same fervour you began this crusade.

I hope I am wrong, because you deserve all the credit in the world.

    Turkeybhoy,

I think it should be congratulations to the Requisitioners for not having stalled, never mind lost, at todays AGM. This R12 is still open and ongoing. This is what discussion and mutual agreement is all about. We have not taken a step backwards or ‘lost’ any ground. We are still in there. Anyone who thought this would be a straightforward for and against vote, was obviously not living in the real world.

I also have an issue with your derogatory comments about “Suits.” Do you not think that there are any suits involved in the Requisitioners or on CQN? All you have to do is read the calibre of the reports and petitions etc. to realize that any one of these people could be “Suits,” and may be are in another life from CQN.

After the disappointment of Res11 , we had the ‘apparent’ let-down of Res12 until discussion with both Morrissey and BRTH detailed the positive nature (outlined later on the blog) of their discussions with Celtic.

Spent some time in The Phoenix with Morrissey , BRTH , ACGR , Cowiebhoy, tommysbhoy , Sipsini , FalkirkBhoy, HadEnough, GeorgeBhoy, CaltonTongues and the irrepressible Billy No’Well who told a funny tale about being outed by his 7yo to his hun in-laws !!

Managed to spend a too short time in Blane Valley with OldTim , PFAyr , BT , FGF and some of the aforementioned reprobates .

Morrissey , HH to you . You , Canamalar and Auldheid have led the way on this and deserve the credit and acclaim . As you/we’ve discovered , the wheels can move slowly and inching towards justice/satisfaction is better than having the door slammed in your face .

Also , as you’ve discovered , sticking your head above the parapet can result in requiring a tin hat ( esp from friendly fire) but you’ve done it and know that you myself and others to watch your backs .
