Another treble yell, Mackay-Steven needs football

337

Another year, another “treble yell” from the Celtic family, this time from Lubo Moravcik. Lubo did it, of course, but that was 16 years ago, and despite playing monopoly with the league since then, we’ve not managed to add two trophies to the haul.

Celtic have secured one trophy, with the league title a formality, so the treble is now all about the Scottish Cup. The cynics will expect difficult draws (should we overcome Albion Rovers) and, perhaps, ground-breaking referee decisions. A grasp of history suggests our chances are no more than 50%.

I can understand Brendan Rodgers wanting to retain a fringe player, like Gary Mackay-Steven, in order to give the player a proper assessment during the second half of the season, but Gary needs to play football right now. A period on loan at Tannadice would help him return to form, and if it didn’t, it would answer a few questions for Brendan.

I presented the appearance data for Forrest and Roberts – see the other blogs. I think you make a fair point that ANY players form improves with an extended run which may explain Roberts slight dip this season. The stats are based on all appearances for Celtic and I think GMS got a fair crack last season playing 2269 mins and appearing in 37 games.

FANATIC thanks and I like youR optimism but for me it is a no for GMS.

It is unusual that a judge will discuss a case under appeal publicly .

    TTT,

Disagree on the idea that supporter should not be allowed to have favourites and offer conjecture about their preferences, it’s probably the biggest talking point about football, where the manager has gone wrong.

It’s like telling supporter they should not comment on football.

    ****

That’s fair enough, as it goes. However, I draw the line at Celtic players abilities being insulted, by some of the language used to describe them, i.e., “they’e p*sh,” etc.

As far as football abilities go, we are all nonentities.

We all have our favourites, but to publicly denigrate players is just pure bad manners and ignorance.

That goes for the personal abuse that gets hurled around here, when someone disagrees with another’s views ;no matter how much of an utter imbecile his opponent may be! : > )

Somebody posted earlier that they were staying at the Fenix Music for the Lisbon Anniversary. Good choice I think. I stayed a few nights in Lisbon either side of my holiday with Mrs H to the Azores last summer. There are three Fenix hotels, all side by side. We stayed in the THE Fenix on the way out. Nice 4 star hotel, brilliant breakfast, including Cava. Always a good start to the day :)

On the way back we stayed at the Fenix Garden. This was a bit more modern, breakfast not quite as good, but still better than acceptable, comfy room too. Whilst there I had a peek inside the Fenix Music next door. It looked quite modern and boutique, but I would confidently predict the standards would be high, like its nearby sister hotels.

The hotels are well connected, with a Metro station and bus stops right outside the hotels. It is only two or three stops on the Metro to Lisbon old town, and the main railway station, where you get a ticket to Cruz Quebrada (sp?), which is about a 15 minute journey. From here, there is about a 15 minute walk, not too far but uphill, to the Stadio Honra/Stadio Nacional (locals seem to refer to “Honra”) We were lucky that after initially being eyed suspiciously by security, we were welcomed right inside, standing just off of the pitch and spent about 15 minutes unsupervised getting pics. Great to see it.

Generally there is not a lot of bars/restaurants around the Fenixes, but there is a good wee cheap cafe, just up the hill a few hundred yards from all three hotels. Just step out of the hotels (any one) and turn left, and your there. There was a Burger King across the road, if you are starving and not fussy. There were a few outside bars (outside tables with hatch service) to the right as you come out of the Hotels, but not much else. It is quite a well heeled part of town, with all of the designer labels having shops in the area. If you keep walking down the hill after leaving the hotels to the right, you come into some of the more central squares, with better choices to eat and drink. About a twenty minute walk.

The area could offer more, but I stress again, the hotels are all really good.

JP Taylor posted today that Celtic will not be involved in any events in Lisbon in May.

However, they intend to turn Glasgow Green and White , with many events in the city, over a few days, culminating in the Legends match on, I think, the 28th.

Nothing in it for Gary Mackay Steven and nothing in it for Celtic with a proposed loan back to Dundee Utd.

Celtic would be losing a fully matured senior player and paying the bulk of his wages to boot.

Gary still has hopes and only needs to look at his best pal Stuart Armstrong to see what Celtic can do for you.

while I agree in principle, I am partial to colourful language and do enjoy new and witty put down.

Its football no a diplomatic school, I still think its ok to release tension at football stadiums and overpaid sportsmen get paid to perform, I group it with heckling.

Freezing down here, which is unusual but what the hell. Heading to a a local pizza place which used to do a great pizza. I hope it has not changed since my last visit almost 3 years ago.

The Wetherspoons was not here on my last visit either, and it has closed down a couple of the local pubs. It is heaving though, on a cold Wednesday night so they have got the formula right.

Regarding the stories about GMS,I would file them with KT going to Man U.For a whole blog that does not read the SMSM,they are very willing to comment on the guff they write.Pathetic.

The only person in charge of GMS future is Brendan. Not any would be expert on here.
