Answering tangential digs at Celtic

570

I see Celtic’s name was dragged by the media into what some low-life vandals did outside Ibrox this week – and a few years ago, for good measure.  There are low-life vandals out there, and we don’t have a way to filter them out of the Celtic support, so I‘d not dispute any of the tangential links, but vandalism like this happens all too often without media coverage.

When stories suddenly appear to be so well framed in the newspapers, you have to wonder why?  Or who is behind them?

There’s a big play underway for what, in this context, should be called Supremacy in Scotland.  Celtic have it right now and no one else is strong enough to eclipse them.  The best way to achieve this is to destabilise the club.  It’s worked, but only to an extent.

I read Paul Larkin on Hail Hail Media this morning who raises some interesting questions on what’s going on and what we should do about it, “as a collective, cannot be beaten”.  It’s hard to argue with.

We’ve got two exciting bits of Magners business for you today………..

First, if you want to win two Premium Seat tickets to the Jock Stein Stand for Sunday’s potential league winning game against Aberdeen, courtesy of main club sponsor, Magners, answer this question about our last 9-in-a-row campaign:

Against which team did Celtic win the first of their 9 consecutive titles, in 1966?

It was a famous game, settled by a famous scorer.  Email the team name IN THE SUBJECT LINE of your message, to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Competition closes at 17:00 TODAY, so you only have a few hours…..

And there’s more……  How do you fancy playing on Celtic Park in 12 days’ time?  Go to Facebook and enter this Magners competition to win a place in the end of season 7s tournament.

You get to grace the place that McGrory, Johnstone, Dalglish and Larsson did their stuff.  Do it.

Now I’ve got you in a good mood.  If you’ve a spare £1 in your metaphorical pocket, go stick it into the CQN Mary’s Meals appeal  Those CQN school kitchens in Malawi feed over 2,000 kids each day.  That’s food needed every day………

Happy Birthday Paul 67 and many thanks for this great blog. H.H.

  2. I said last night that it feels like walls are starting to crumble. This morning we have Inside World Football reporting on the Offshore Game’s call for an independent inquiry into Scottish football governance. We have Ogilvie being called out for misleading LNS. Don’t get caught up in minutiae, if you want to talk big picture……this could be it. Wow! Just wow!!!!

    BRTH, MAYANMAN, and all,

Just sent the following to the author of the Inside World Football blog:

    Hello Matt,

Thanks for posting the above article; however, you really need to do further research, then correct the following inaccurate part of the article:

“The matter relates to the two cases HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) brought against Rangers and precipitated the club’s financial demise, from which followed automatic relegation to Scottish football’s bottom tier.”

The “Oldco” entered Administration in February 2012, followed by liquidation, when a CVA was rejected by HMRC.

Some of the assets were bought from the Administrators, by a consortium fronted by Charles Green (Sevco 5088, later Sevco Scotland).

The Newco Football Club created by Sevco was granted entry to the lowest tier of Scottish Senior Football, as part of a process gerry-mandered by the SFA, SPL, and SFL organisations, following the rejection of earlier attempts to gant the NEW club access to the First Division.

If you are going to help shine a light into the murky waters of mis-governance of Scottish Football, then I would highly recommend that you do not miss some of the critical points.

There are many who are better-placed than I am, who can help you to quickly establish the full facts, and I am sure that they will be in touch with you soon.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Parkheadcumsalford,

I agree with much of what you say, however while I believe that CQN is still by far the best Celtic minded blog it does suffer the same trends as the rest of our society.

    Namely :

A decline in Manners, Grammer, Basic Courtesy and Etiquette.

This is representative throughout all sections of society and is a general trend not solely related to CQN.

Progress : Possibly. A sign of the times: Definitely

As one who is governed by the scales, Libra, I of course can see both sides.

    hail, Hail.

Looks like the efforts of certain people are bearing fruit, with a sudden release of reports into the SFA/Sevco shambles.

All of which will be aimed at a wider demographic than has previously been the case.

Hopefully now,one of the “nationals” will take it on.

Congrats to all involved. You’re doing us proud, lads!

How would you feel if, you didn’t renew your ST, and it turned out you were spectacularly wrong? Already some are pointing fingers at Celtic when we are not in possession of all the facts. Dangerous game IMO.

  21. Happy Birthday Paul67

The first time I saw Celtic win the Scottish Cup would’ve been on your birthday – 6th May 1972 – and for an Embra bhoy like me, it was very sweet because we hammered Hibs 6-1.

I went to an Edinburgh Catholic school and the support was split approx Hibs 55% Celtic 35% Hearts 10% – and with Hibs being the 2nd best team in Scotland those days, there was a great rivalry between Celtic & Hibs fans at school and I was very nervous before the final. Went with my Dad and watched it standing on beer cans at the back of the Celtic End. I still couldn’t see much (never knew Dixie did a somersault after his wonder goal until the TV highlights that night).

There were 106,000 fans there that day including a massive Hibs support – I would guess around 35,000 – they had a brilliant team and really fancied their chances.

It was my 2nd Cup Final, the first one being the 1970 Aberdeen game (the Bobby Davidson game) and I ripped into my Hibee pals on the Monday.

    Enjoy yer birthday!

  22. So, 27th May is ST deadline day.

Btw, are the court cases in Scotland ?

    Only asking……

No looking for any trouble but…..I still widny trust the

Supporters head-guru’s should get together and announce

that – “ST’s will not be purchased until the Res : 12…etc, findings

    are laid bare!”
