Answering tangential digs at Celtic

570

I see Celtic’s name was dragged by the media into what some low-life vandals did outside Ibrox this week – and a few years ago, for good measure.  There are low-life vandals out there, and we don’t have a way to filter them out of the Celtic support, so I‘d not dispute any of the tangential links, but vandalism like this happens all too often without media coverage.

When stories suddenly appear to be so well framed in the newspapers, you have to wonder why?  Or who is behind them?

There’s a big play underway for what, in this context, should be called Supremacy in Scotland.  Celtic have it right now and no one else is strong enough to eclipse them.  The best way to achieve this is to destabilise the club.  It’s worked, but only to an extent.

I read Paul Larkin on Hail Hail Media this morning who raises some interesting questions on what’s going on and what we should do about it, “as a collective, cannot be beaten”.  It’s hard to argue with.

We’ve got two exciting bits of Magners business for you today………..

First, if you want to win two Premium Seat tickets to the Jock Stein Stand for Sunday’s potential league winning game against Aberdeen, courtesy of main club sponsor, Magners, answer this question about our last 9-in-a-row campaign:

Against which team did Celtic win the first of their 9 consecutive titles, in 1966?

It was a famous game, settled by a famous scorer.  Email the team name IN THE SUBJECT LINE of your message, to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Competition closes at 17:00 TODAY, so you only have a few hours…..

And there’s more……  How do you fancy playing on Celtic Park in 12 days’ time?  Go to Facebook and enter this Magners competition to win a place in the end of season 7s tournament.

You get to grace the place that McGrory, Johnstone, Dalglish and Larsson did their stuff.  Do it.

Now I’ve got you in a good mood.  If you’ve a spare £1 in your metaphorical pocket, go stick it into the CQN Mary’s Meals appeal  Those CQN school kitchens in Malawi feed over 2,000 kids each day.  That’s food needed every day………

Don’t think the ref is going to allow that to happen

  4. 3 for Liverpool, and that is that. Ref bailed them out with the penalty claim, but overall Liverpool have been driven forward by the crowd, their coach and been the better side.

liverpool look home and dry now…. but that non-penalty call a moment ago (I’ve seen them given for less) is looking big now …2-1 (and Villa through on awway goals) versus 3-0 (liverpool home and dry)

    so the janefield street riot,

my haze recollection of it, and i might be wrong on some points.

its 1985, we had really lost the league to aberdeen allready, a small , but very up for it crowd was in the ground, the die hards and the young rebels if you like it certainly wasnt packed out.

the casuals were there, but in a corner of the celtic end closest to the jungle, the split sided hats being the identifier .

a very kick and batter game, blood and snotters, a really shit huns team , maybe they came 4th that year, i think mcinallys goal was some sort of backpost blooter into the net.

i was in the jungle, with a few greenock shammy bhoys and port sf. older members of the family in the celtic end.

at the end of the game it was quite an orderly exit,

this is the bit that gets hazy, i think the old railway bridge tunnel had just been demolished, and that opened up into a bit of open ground, some burger vans, then all hell broke loose, a big wave of stragglers comes running though, and a huge roar, the horses upon the fans, and they regrouped almost in seconds. turned and took off back up the streets, at that point knocking loads out the way.

i dont know waht happended up janefield street after that

i do know what happened around me.

some isolated police, withdrew battons and started meltin into the supporters.

it got severely worse very quickly as many lashed into the polis.

a greenock counciller whos name escapes me got in between a polis and supports to try shield him, he ended up battered as well.

taking off to try to get out of it, there were still tenanments behind , and that funnelled you back to the grange pub, where there was further violence going on.

it really was a riot, ……..

    but who started it ?

    the polis.

  8. mike in toronto on

to be fair to the ref… Villa have gone down easily throughout this game, looking for fouls, and the ref has consistently said play on …

    reading back and more memories,

after the “riot” claims, the celtic board at the time really did come out fighting for the fans , i have the celtic views in an old case, they gathered lots of statements and evidence.

the biggest chalenge being ,,,,,,,, there was no fighting with huns, there were none charging down behing the jungle,

the juns had polis uniforms on and on horseback.

i wonder if any of them did their own double, hampden 80 and janefield 85,

The name Ian Ferns now rings a bell.

Klopp appears to have very good man management skills and he appears to enjoy himself during games well done to him and to Liverpool. H.H.

  21. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

St stivs, my pal and I were stone cold sober on that night.

Normally if there is a bit of bother , you hear lots of shouting and swearing in the distance but that night there was none . The only shouting and swearing we heard was when the horses galloped through .

Thirty one years on, the polis are still as bad.

  22. Totally get the Paul Larkin point of view and agree 100% but, if the board feel there is a campaign to devide and conquer but L5 and / or others which no doubt there has been in the past and no doubt is now why is Celtic PR so bad.

The fans would appreciate a bit of moral backing by the club and an effort to gain some unity

Basically what I’m saying is show us you have the fight

If they do that the support would respond.

Season ticket freeze is one thing but the club need to grow a pair and finally stand up to these evil eyes

  23. HT: Did you get my email re Barca tickets and badges? Will check back in the morning.

  24. Good Evening Fellow Celts :-)

Now Pedantic or just attention to detail ?

TD67, you know that bestest Celtic supporter, I see you are attending the Celtic Convention in Vegas, next month 2016, just to be clear, this is NOT the 50th anniversary of Lisbon Lions convention.

That one is being held in 2017, not 2016

    BRTH

Can you check that document from HMRC, I’m sure it stated ” have acted Fruadently since 1999″ and not 2000 ? ( just asking Bhud :-))

    Now the Janefield street issue

I remember reading a Bhoy called Gerard Hutchison, had sued the police and won his case for having been part of that horse damage, reason I remember the name, always wondered if it was a Bhoy who went to school with me, whom I have never seen since I left school in 1979

  25. Oh meant to add

At our last home game against Ross County, there was lots of advertising around our stadium boards etc, for some of those organisation ( media) who is being claimed as spreading muck about our club

Why are we allowing their advertising ?

  26. Oh another thing, Gerard Hutchison I knew, was at St Modans, was a Denny Bhoy for you Bhoys from that area
