Answering tangential digs at Celtic

570

I see Celtic’s name was dragged by the media into what some low-life vandals did outside Ibrox this week – and a few years ago, for good measure.  There are low-life vandals out there, and we don’t have a way to filter them out of the Celtic support, so I‘d not dispute any of the tangential links, but vandalism like this happens all too often without media coverage.

When stories suddenly appear to be so well framed in the newspapers, you have to wonder why?  Or who is behind them?

There’s a big play underway for what, in this context, should be called Supremacy in Scotland.  Celtic have it right now and no one else is strong enough to eclipse them.  The best way to achieve this is to destabilise the club.  It’s worked, but only to an extent.

I read Paul Larkin on Hail Hail Media this morning who raises some interesting questions on what’s going on and what we should do about it, “as a collective, cannot be beaten”.  It’s hard to argue with.

We’ve got two exciting bits of Magners business for you today………..

First, if you want to win two Premium Seat tickets to the Jock Stein Stand for Sunday’s potential league winning game against Aberdeen, courtesy of main club sponsor, Magners, answer this question about our last 9-in-a-row campaign:

Against which team did Celtic win the first of their 9 consecutive titles, in 1966?

It was a famous game, settled by a famous scorer.  Email the team name IN THE SUBJECT LINE of your message, to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Competition closes at 17:00 TODAY, so you only have a few hours…..

And there’s more……  How do you fancy playing on Celtic Park in 12 days’ time?  Go to Facebook and enter this Magners competition to win a place in the end of season 7s tournament.

You get to grace the place that McGrory, Johnstone, Dalglish and Larsson did their stuff.  Do it.

Now I’ve got you in a good mood.  If you’ve a spare £1 in your metaphorical pocket, go stick it into the CQN Mary’s Meals appeal  Those CQN school kitchens in Malawi feed over 2,000 kids each day.  That’s food needed every day………

    I think the best thing to do is to contact your broker and ask that the shares are actually registered in your personal name but held by them if you so wish.

    If the shares are in your name, then the notice of the AGM should come to you and you alone and so you can determine who has any proxy to vote the shares and obviously they take your instruction.

    If the shares remain in the brokers name, then the stockbroker would have to be instructed how to vote the shares.

    But best cheque with whoever holds your shares.

    Hope that helps.

  7. Liverpools ” high pressing” had achieved the desired early goal. However Villareal are very comfortable on the ball and although the keeper looks a bit rattled, there is a threat about them.

    If Liverpool get a head of steam up in the last fifteen minutes then they should be too powerful if they force a procession of set pieces. Well set up for the second half as the commentators would say..

    OFFSHORE HERTZ FAN’S ALL OVER IT.Plenty people in Scotland, media included and especially, treat this as a contentious issue – as if the different club argument is only kept alive by a few Internet saddos motivated by hatred or bigotry. But this isn’t a question of faith or interpretation. There is only one truth here, one reality. By the rules and regulations as they were in 2012, and crucially, by the way those rules were interpreted by EVERY SINGLE PERSON with even a passing interest in Scottish football, this entity is not the same as the one that existed prior to 2012. In every case previously when a Scottish club got into financial difficulty everyone, and I mean everyone (officials, media, fans) took that to mean the existence of the club was in danger. The idea the club could separate from the endangered business simply didn’t enter anybody’s head. You might think it’s boring, fuelled by bitterness, or even pointless, but it doesn’t change the undeniable truth that this isn’t the same Rangers.

    The Janefield Street ‘Riot’ (1985)This is a featured page

    Incidents, Events & Controversies | About Celtic

    Brief outline

    1 May 1985 Celtic 1-1 Rangers

    Match page

    Aitken penalty on 2 min; scored but retake ordered because ball moved;

    2nd one saved off the Rangers keepers legs;

    52 minutes Davie Cooper sent off (2nd yellow) for foul on Peter Grant;

    71 minutes Dawson off for an off-the-ball against Johnston;

    77 min penalty to Rangers Aitken handled

    So an interesting game leading up to ensuing “riot”.

    4000 plus Celtic fans exit via Janefield St. Crowded. (in the past many more had exited this way without problems)

    At some point a mounted police decides there is a ruck developing between opposing fans (denied by all subsequent statements by those involved). He orders 5 mounted police horses to charge through the crowd.

    ‘Balaclava’ style charge through absolute mobbed street. Mayhem results.

    They turn at the top of the street and charge back down again.

    People already panic-ed start in on police and second charge is met by coins and stones

    Police, not content and they call for backup – more mounties and plods arrive. 2 further charges follow. Open battle breaks out with police. Police start snatching people when full marias arrive. Numerous examples of excessive force in arrest. Many innocent bystanders nabbed.

    100 yard of brick wall topped with steel railings collapses; people being let in and thru houses to get away from police, people handing kids up onto verandas to get them out the way

    9 police injured including the original 5 mounties, 1 police with broken nose requiring hospital

    39 fans injured, 10 requiring hospital treatment

    69 arrests made (41 for breach of the peace – all the police figures confusing as it also includes arrests made inside the ground and pre-game also, 19 for carrying drink, 9 for minor offences.)

    Strathclyde Police Chief Constable Sir Patrick Hamill launches immediate full police enquiry.

    Kevin Kelly, Celtic Director, makes immediate call thru Celtic View for eye witness statements from those involved and gets statements from Janefield Street residents. Next 2 Celtic Views publish 4 pages of statements all stating that there was a peaceful but crowded exit before the police decided to charge.

    Results of Police Inquiry published December 1985 exonerate police – no action to be taken.

    Dennis Canavan raises question in House of Commons. Now alleged that 21 police injured and 12 “civilians”. Solicitor General for Scotland dismisses Canavan’s charges and 62 yet to appear at courts

    Celtic set up Police Liason Committee in January to meet regularly and later appoint Security Officer (ex-Strathclyde Police inspector)

    Independent action brought against Chief Constable of Strathclyde Police by Easterhouse solicitors on behalf of a young girl injured

    CATHEDRAL VIEW on 5TH MAY 2016 8:42 PM

    It may be worth considering that not renewing season books does not necessarily equate with a boycott of the club and can simply be a decision not to pay for tickets for every home match upfront before the start of season and at the same time send a powerful message to the directors of our club.

    ——————————————-

    That’s precisley my current thinking. It’s linked to the ole supply and demand thing. A season ticket gets you both a guaranteed seat and also first dibs on tickets for the “big games”. Over the last 3 or 4 years how many of our games have actually sold out? A couple of European ties maybe. The particular seat I currently have in the ole main stand was primarilly to ensure a quick getaway after the Saturday 3pm games as I played the piano at 6pm vigil mass. But as I’ve recently (ahem) retired from that there’s no particular reason for me staying in the main stand where the seats are a bit dearer than mostother areas anyway.

    This season, single matchday tickets were generally £29. My season ticket cost me, I think, £505. 19 home games, bought individually, would be £551. If you know who finish top 6 next season I’d attend a maximum of 17 at a cost of £493. And individual tickets would allow me to get a different matchday experience at various different parts of our stadium.

    So looking very much like it’ll be a pay as you go deal for Jobo.

    Oh, and my decision to move (if I do) is nothing to do with the eejit that sits a couple of rows in front of me ;-)
