Anywhere but Warsaw

868

My thought on looking at our potential opponents this morning was ‘Anywhere but Warsaw’.  Our man Zbyszek tells me Legia were awful in the first leg in Warsaw against St Pat’s, where they drew 1-1 courtesy of a late goal, but we’ve been there.  Henrik Larsson & Co. drew 0-0 against St Pat’s at Celtic Park before winning 0-2 in the return leg.  St Patrick’s have a big job ahead if they are to progress.

A trip to Ireland on Champions League qualification duty for the second year running would suit Celtic, especially our Irish-based supporters, but my money is on a more testing trip to Poland; Ronny’s pulse should have quickened on the news.

Zbyszek doesn’t reckon have what it takes to eliminate Celtic. All being equal, that may be the case, but summer football will be unpredictable for both clubs.

I am, of course, being completely disrespectful to KR Reykjavik, who we annihilate next week.

I will always use CQN, the best bar none in my opinion and I have used others. I find CQN user friendly and welcoming.

I have had the great pleasure to meet some great people on here, your good self amongst them. I have also been able to assist others thanks to CQN.

My message to everybody that has posted here or lurks is simple. Do not let anybody drive you away. If there are debates, Posters that upset you ignore them. If you cannot, engage with them objectively. We must not allow CQN to be wasted by Posters who are subjective in their comments; they will moved on before us if they are ignored or are tackled objectively.

I take a rest now and again for two reasons: events in my personal life that require me to attend to first. And I believe it is good for me simply to take a wee break.

It is the close season but we are on the Eve of the new season, a new Era, Ronny’s Era; he, Celtic and CQN needs us all. I always find the close season a bit of a drag on CQN as I mainly prefer discussing football matters, none more so than Celtic…probably why this blog is called celticquicknews.

Yes, I thank P67 for a lot but celticquicknews is nothing without you or your ilk.

Do not be driven away Bhoys and Ghirls….long live CQN,10 years counting and to the year we out last the former Club from Govan.

There are one or two lurkers of my acquaintance who would wipe the floor wi the more poisonous contributors on here.

    It would be a bloodbath.

They lack our natural politeness when confronted with extremism. Rather than simply point out the error of their ways, trash their arguments, whatever, they are more likely to revert to the tried-and-tested ACGR 5-iron approach.

I’ll see what I can do about mobilising them!!!

  8. Hi battered bunnett. I would like to say I surfed but it’s closer to being called battered around by waves. I love it though. It’s been a tough year for my family and I. I took on a new job which involves lots of travel and it was just great to spend two weeks getting to know the family again. We had a great time.

I agree there is a multiplicity of business models football clubs could follow. I am not too far from agreement in the business models that celtic follow. But selling players to make more profit and then not strengthening is simply downsizing and unforgivable. That behaviour tells me that celtic have no intention of team building. And so they are lying to us.

My challenge to celtic is to be honest with us and treat us with respect. Even worse than that is their capitulation to the growing victimisation and sectarianism being displayed against us. But I won’t go into that again. Just to say it poses a massive threat to the continued support the club gets and is a sign of a wider and dangerous malaise growing in Scotland.

On the rangers thing, I disagree. What has been self evident during this whole mess is that celtic have been silent. And remain silent. Res 12 appears to be going nowhere. Worse than that we have seen authorities bend over to help etc, in a normal situation the Huns would take decades to recover but not in Scotland I’m afraid. Every help will be given to them including honest mistakes aplenty.

  9. I would like to pay tribute to Paul67 and add my tuppenceworth to the ongoing debate about trolls, huns, happy-clappers et al.

The phenomenon that was Celtic Quick News couldn’t go on as it was which is a pity.

Those who envy the site’s success, those who hate us, and those who wish to promote their own agenda will all try to dominate.

I am guilty of this in my own way, having pushed my parliamentary public petition on here which would have been to the detriment of other, more Celtic-related matters.

I also put up links to my CelticWiki contributions and it is clear that what happened in the 1930s to the bhoys isn’t everybody’s cup of tea.

But in a way the personal bug-bears of each of us make the site what it is and there is a common ethos that it generally good.

I haven’t enjoyed the independence debate that has dominated recently or the pro-board propaganda that has been more and more prevalent.

I miss the twitcher talk and black pudding nonsense and of course if we run out of that patter we can always talk about football!

The best example of the growing strength must be the increase of CQN gatherings, where sparring partners meet up and leave the venues as friends, to resume their sparring when they meet again on the blog.

The fact that the blog must be nearing or maybe even surpassed £1M for charities is probably the single biggest marker for the unity of the blog when push comes to shove.

  18. joe filippis haircut

I completely agree. The difference is that the people you’re referring to are friends, or certainly folk you trust.

I’m referring to posters on CQN whose primary purpose is to cause discord and disharmony.

  19. Hamiltontim. I do occasionally have a bring it on approach as you put it. Sometimes it’s necessary but sometimes it’s just getting a bit passionate about the subject. And sometimes I may have had a bit too much wine or beer!!!

I do have an agenda (or an opinion as 67 heaven says). I want the best for us as celtic supporters and for my team to share our passion and ambition.

I also want to use this site and other channels to challenge the growing sectarianism – state sponsored – that is now appearing in Scotland.

  20. Here is the solution to the problems of the Blog.

    THE SENSATIONAL NEW CQN APP

Introducing the amazing NEW CQN App….try it for FREE

Are you … hooked on CQN?….wake up every morning and check your phone or computer first thing?…..look in endlessly through the day?…..go to sleep worried that you may miss an important comment?

But…some bits just don’t seem right…they annoy you just a little.

Well – YOU need the FREE CQN App….all you do is load it and sit back and enjoy the benefits.

So, what does the AMAZING CQN STANDARD App do?

    • Eliminates Podium chasers – yes, these are a thing of the past! Their posts disappear from your screen before you even see them

    • Gets you the East Kilbride weather report BEFORE it is posted every morning

    • Lets you colour code your favourite/non-favourite posters (except shades of red which are reserved) so you know who to skip

    • Works out when someone should have added a smiley face to their post and automatically inserts it to help you avoid being overcome with rage at a well-intentioned comment

BUT, if this is not enough for you – try our CQN DELUX App. For a mere £100 per month, it does EVEN MORE….yes…the CQN DELUX:

    • Eliminates all posts about the Independence Referendum – just switch on this feature and you will never see another post from a political troll again

    • Produces an Executive Summary of all BRTH posts – think of the time you will save

    • Detects Hun infiltrators and rewords all their post to read…..”God bless Celtic”

But, even that may not be good enough for you? No?…so you need the CQN SUPER DELUXE. The App which DOES IT ALL. No challenge is too big for the SUPER DELUXE (at only £1,000 per month)

    • Gets your questions priority access to Lisbon Lions Legends when they do a Q&A on the blog

    • With its integrated Kojo Book of Grammar and Spelling…….within a mere 26 weeks continuous study, you will understand a whole 10% of what Kojo posts…if not, your money back*

    • And finally, when Hrvatski Jim posts in garbled Croatian which defeats Google Translate, it will unscramble it and translate to recognisable English…if not, your money back*

    * please note that these features are subject to incredibly complicated terms and conditions which easily enable the suppliers to wriggle out of these guarantees.

The CQN App is in continuous development and new ideas are welcome at any time.

  26. Winning Captains,

Some interesting stuff. Paul and his site are remarkable. I would never re-engage with any online forum after my experience of the really angry and vindictive posters (aw naw etc – it’s futile), but, I found Paul supportive and not in a ‘taking sides’ sort of way, just in a really decent sort of way.

The debate’s on here have been outstanding, and even when I hate every part of the process and can barely bring myself to look, the fact remains that this site has allowed these discussion to evolve and develop far beyond any other online forum I’ve ever encountered.

I can see people have made friends on here, and shared their life events and real stuff has emerged from the ethereal internet. It is unique, and CQN is one of the first things I think of when I think about how the social media and the internet is changing the world.

It has been very good for Celtic, very good indeed. It allowed rational thought to enter the football debate, and allowed Celtic fans to share their understanding of the very complicated business of keeping Celtic afloat in Scotlands broken football economy – CQN will feature in the story of Celtic. No question, because to ignore it would fail to tell the story of how Celtic navigated the most perillous 20 years in our history (hopefully).

And Paul’s posts are better, and more powerful year on year. So, it’s even good just to visit every day for a quick read – which is what I’ve been left with the last couple of years.

However, it’s still the internet. And if CQN doesn’t work then there’s not much hope for open forums anywhere. It’s close to as good as it can be, credit to those who’ve made that happen. Shame on those who undermine it, but, they don’t care about shame, so…

Meanwhile, there are a few similar forums in totally different fields (bikesnobnyc – if you like an irreverant bicycle conversation is impressive).

And as for the monies raised for charity, spot on. Open to all, respectful to all and helping those in need.
